Sept 9 : Curacao manager Dick Advocaat has signed a contract extension keeping him in charge through July, the country’s football federation announced on Wednesday. The agreement ensures stability following a turbulent period for the Dutch coach and the Caribbean nation. Advocaat originally led Curacao to a historic qualification for the recent World Cup before stepping down, only to return in May, replacing Fred Rutten. “This is a fantastic group to work with,” Advocaat said. “We have achieved something special together, and I look forward to continuing to build on what we have accomplished with the players and staff.” Curacao finished bottom of Group E at the World Cup in North America, earning a point when they held Ecuador to a 0-0 draw on June 21. Microsoft has a better 25-year-old Task Manager that nobody knows about

Microsoft has a better 25-year-old Task Manager that nobody knows about

Whenever my Windows laptop starts lagging or an app freezes, my immediate instinct is to open Task Manager. I know I’m not alone. Task Manager has been a core Windows staple for decades. It gives you a quick snapshot of system resources, lets you force-close unresponsive apps, and manages startup programs. But Microsoft actually maintains a second “Task Manager” that does all of that — and much more — for free. In fact, it’s been available for nearly 25 years. It’s called Process Explorer, and once you start using it, standard Task Manager quickly begins to feel lightweight by comparison. Related I stopped using Task Manager once I found what Windows hides from it I stopped relying on Task Manager after discovering the hidden Windows activity it ignores. Microsoft bought Process Explorer in 2006 The tool came from Sysinternals, but it’s now part of Microsoft’s toolkit Microsoft didn’t originally create Process Explorer. The tool was made by Mark Russinovich and Bryce Cogswell, who are well known among Windows power users for creating advanced system tools. …

Newcastle manager Jaissle relishing opportunity after player exodus chaos

Newcastle manager Jaissle relishing opportunity after player exodus chaos

NEWCASTLE, England, Aug 11 : Newcastle United manager Matthias Jaissle is refusing to dwell on the departure of key players that has left his club in turmoil ahead of the Premier League season, insisting on Tuesday that he sees opportunity in the situation. Jaissle was recruited from Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli after Eddie Howe left last month, with the German coach joining a club who had lost Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali and captain Bruno Guimaraes in quick succession. “It’s a challenge, a big challenge, always when there’s a transitional period. But it’s not time to complain, it doesn’t make sense to see the negative things,” Jaissle told reporters. “We want to see the chance in that situation and that’s our approach from day one. We are here to do our best job. We want to support the players, the current squad. “There will be adjustments to see in the coming days, weeks. But for now it’s only focused on the daily work, the work we can influence. That’s all that matters now.” The 38-year-old …

Why ‘countdown mode’ is the task manager feature I can’t live without

Why ‘countdown mode’ is the task manager feature I can’t live without

ZDNET’s key takeaways This TickTick app setting changed my productivity. The default option shows a due date or time. Countdown shows minutes or days until your deadline. I’ve never been the most organized person. While I call my approach “working better under pressure,” my family tends to call it “procrastinating.” Either way, I’m the type of person who often puts things off until they’re due and then knocks out whatever the task is in a flurry of productivity. As much as I hate to admit it, this strategy means I occasionally miss something. I’ve turned to a variety of note-taking, list-making, and to-do apps through the years. I still use several to keep my thoughts together, but even a calendar of things-to-do creates another problem. There are times during the summer when my kids are home, and normal schedules don’t exist, when I don’t know what day it is, much less the date. Seeing an arbitrary date on a calendar, or even “Due Friday,” might not convey how pressing the deadline is. Also: Android 17 …

I found gigabytes of invisible junk on my Android that the default manager never shows

I found gigabytes of invisible junk on my Android that the default manager never shows

Most Android users know when their storage is filling up. What you might not know is that the numbers your phone shows you are largely made up. The built-in storage manager groups everything into tidy categories that hide the underlying file system, and the default file manager won’t show you certain files. Luckily, there is a tool made just for cleaning your Android phone. Related I found Android’s hidden resource monitor and stopped installing cleanup apps Time to open Developer Options on your phone Android has storage blind spots The default view hides most of the mess Digvijay Kumar / MakeUseOf Android’s built-in storage manager doesn’t actually show you what’s on your device. It sorts everything into broad categories like Apps, System, and Media, which tells you almost nothing about where the real bloat is hiding. Manufacturer file managers make this even worse by applying custom filters that hide core directories altogether. So the heavy stuff sits buried in nested folders with no obvious way to find it. You’re left guessing which apps are hoarding …

2 Masters, 1 Manager: Competing Loyalties in Middle Management

2 Masters, 1 Manager: Competing Loyalties in Middle Management

My husband and I recently went on vacation to Yellowstone National Park, where we’d booked a group tour. At one point, the guide took a phone call from his boss and stepped away. After the call, the guide was visibly rattled. We could hear his side of the conversation, where he’d expressed that he was in the middle of the tour and would call back when we got to our lunch spot. From then, you could sense the anxiety and dread as he awaited the call-back. While the tour group enjoyed lunch, the guide stepped away. Afterward, I checked in on him. Exasperated, he explained that he had gotten in trouble for something that had happened on a previous tour which “didn’t affect the company at all, and helped give a more positive experience to a guest.” He expressed frustration at having to defend himself to someone in a corporate office across the country who had never even been to Yellowstone. He said he felt like he should be protected by his manager, but his …

Trevor Dietz death: Fontaines DC’s longtime manager dies aged 54

Trevor Dietz death: Fontaines DC’s longtime manager dies aged 54

Fontaines DC’s longtime manager Trevor Dietz, who was considered by the Irish rock band to be their “sixth member”, has died suddenly aged 54. Dietz began working with the Brit Award winners as a promoter at the beginning of their careers in Dublin, seeing them go on to become one of the biggest breakthrough rock bands of the past decade. The group, formed of frontman Grian Chatten, guitarists Conor Curley and Carlos O’Connell, bassist Conor Deegan and drummer Tom Coll, shared a statement to their Instagram on Tuesday (9 June) announcing the news. “We are utterly heartbroken to let you know that on Sunday June 7, we lost our dear friend and manager Trevor,” the band wrote. “Trevor was beside us from the beginning of our journey as a band, we have never known Fontaines DC without him, the sixth member of the band. He cared passionately for us and for what was fair and right in the wider world. He was fearless in his beliefs. We will miss him always.” They ended the post …

I switched from LastPass to this open-source password manager that’s more secure

I switched from LastPass to this open-source password manager that’s more secure

I’ve had doubts about LastPass for almost as long as I can remember. The 2022 breach disclosure was only a tipping point. My problem wasn’t just the breach itself, but how slow, vague, and initially misleading LastPass’s response was. This was also around the time LastPass limited the free tier to a single device. It all begged the question: do I want to continue using a service I can’t trust? Going open-source seemed like the right call. Open-source offline password managers like KeePassXC are great, but not as convenient and user-friendly as cloud-based options, so I switched to Bitwarden. Bitwarden has proved to be a far more secure option than LastPass. Open-source isn’t a philosophy — it’s a security model Why being able to inspect the code changes who you trust I get that open-source is sometimes thrown around as a feel-good label; however, it’s fundamental to Bitwarden. What it means in practical terms is that the full codebase for Bitwarden is publicly available and continuously scrutinized. The 2025 System and Organization Controls (SOC) report …

‘Night Manager’ Stars Diego Calva and Camila Morrone on a Painful Season 2 Ending and Open-Ended Season 3

[This story contains major spoilers from the season two finale of The Night Manager.] Diego Calva always knew that Teddy Dos Santos’ story could only end one way on The Night Manager. In the long-awaited second season of the BBC/Prime Video spy thriller, Calva was introduced as Jonathan Pine’s (Tom Hiddleston) new antagonist, a young Mexican-Colombian arms dealer who turns out to be the biological son of Pine’s archnemesis Richard Roper (Hugh Laurie). Following the suspicious death of his superior Rex Mayhew (Douglas Hodge), who had been investigating a potential high-level leak within MI6 connected to the shipment of weapons to Colombia, Pine secretly infiltrated Teddy’s criminal enterprise under the alias of Matthew Ellis. In Colombia, Pine crossed paths again with Roxana Bolaños (Camila Morrone), the woman he had tracked down and questioned in the wake of Mayhew’s death. Pine learned that Roxana was a Miami-based shipping broker whose company was owned by Teddy’s organization, and she had willingly participated in a suspicious shipment of machine tools between the U.K. and Colombia. Despite the fact …
