Kerry Kennedy reveals unexpected final moment between mom Ethel and aunt Jacqueline Kennedy

Kerry Kennedy is sharing insight into her mother Ethel Kennedy’s relationship with Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, and the tenderness they shared. Though the two Kennedy family matriarchs have had well-documented differences between each other, they were eternally bonded through decades of friendship and shared grief; both of their husbands, John F. Kennedy and Robert F. Kennedy, respectively, were assassinated five years apart, the president in November 1963 and his younger brother and attorney general in June 1968. On Monday, October 12, the human rights activist — one of Ethel and RFK’s 11 children — appeared on the Today Show to promote her new book dedicated to her mother, Ethel Kennedy: The Extraordinary Life and Bold Legacy, out October 13. © Getty ImagesThe two Kennedy women at a New York tennis tournament in 1975 Speaking with Craig Melvin, she revealed an incredibly tender moment between her mother and aunt Jackie, when the latter was on her deathbed, suffering from complications of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Saul Loeb/AFP/via Getty Images hide caption toggle caption i Saul Loeb/AFP/via Getty Images The Kennedy Center has named Rick Canny, a talent manager who has worked with acts including ZZ Top and former Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee, as its new artistic director. His appointment came despite complaints from staff about his business practices as a consultant for the arts institution. According to an email obtained by NPR sent to high-level staff Thursday, Matt Floca, the center’s executive director and chief operating officer, announced that Canny would be the center’s new artistic director. Canny has served as a consultant to the Kennedy Center since shortly after President Trump became the institution’s chairman in February 2025. Floca has no background in arts administration, programming or fundraising, in contrast to chief administrators at similar performing arts venues around the country. He was previously head of facilities at the Kennedy Center before …

Blackwater Bloodied: Erik Prince’s Congo Force Ambushed, Ex-UFC Star Tim Kennedy Shot In The Fight For The World’s Cobalt

When Erik Prince signed on with Kinshasa last year, the brief was mostly about spreadsheets: help Congo’s finance ministry actually collect taxes on its minerals. But on September 17, it turned into a firefight. According to a Reuters exclusive published Friday, a team working for Prince’s Vectus Global was ambushed in South Kivu in eastern Congo, leaving roughly 20 people killed and wounded, among them at least seven Congolese and a former New Zealand special forces soldier. The wounded include Tim Kennedy, the retired Green Beret, ex-UFC fighter and podcaster with millions of social media followers (and a fight résumé in a sport the president is rather fond of, as Reuters helpfully notes), who took three gunshot wounds to the leg and is recovering at Walter Reed. Regular readers know we have been tracking Prince’s slow migration from Kinshasa’s tax office to the front lines since his men and drones showed up in Uvira in February. What is new is the body count, and the fact that the war for Congo’s minerals now has an …

Kennedy Center Honors 2026 Sets Date, New Venue

The 49th Kennedy Center Honors gala is set to go ahead on Dec. 7, 2026, but not at the now-shuttered Kennedy Center itself. Instead, the annual Kennedy Center Honors will take place at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C., The Hollywood Reporter has learned. The Kennedy Center has been at the center of a legal battle as U.S. President Donald Trump has slammed a court decision to block his name, two times now, from being added to the building’s exterior. The board at the arts institution also chose to shut down the Kennedy Center, with Trump in social media posts suggesting the closure would allow future renovations. Launched in 1978, the annual Kennedy Center Honors event recognizes individuals who have made lifetime contributions to American culture through the performing arts. Past gala tributes took place at the Kennedy Center itself in in Washington, D.C. The Kennedy Center gala event will announce the 2026 honorees and a broadcaster for the program at a later date. The ratings for the 2025 Kennedy Center Honors, hosted by Trump …

Stations author Louise Kennedy: ‘I’m surprised people found the book devastating’

Louise Kennedy arrives slightly late to our planned Zoom call, but thoroughly apologetic; right when she was ready to chat, her Firefox browser started to update, “and then everything started crashing”, she explains, waving her arms around to signal that everything around her was, indeed, crashing. While it’s a slightly chaotic start to the interview, it’s a charming one, and Kennedy’s infectious personality shines through from the off. The Irish author is joining me to promote her second novel, Stations, a delicate and complicated love story set across Ireland and London in the 1980s. We follow Róisín, a teenager yearning for connection, but never quite speaking her truth. At the centre of her world is classmate Red, whose future hinges on a single moment. Kennedy has been sitting with this story far longer than readers might expect. Róisín first appeared in Belladonna, a short story published in her collectionThe End of the World Is a Cul de Sac. She laughs: “Róisín came out of the womb stroppy, a bit difficult, and fighting with everybody. In …

Whistleblowers Say Kennedy Center Put Off Fixing Problems Blamed for Closing

Whistleblowers Say Kennedy Center Put Off Fixing Problems Blamed for Closing

Former employees claim that officials at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC, opted not to undertake repairs of leaks in the building’s roof overhangs months ago. Now, officials are saying the center must close temporarily due to risks associated with those same leaks. The anonymous former employees shared internal documents with Congress on Thursday, reports the New York Times. In a letter to Congress, the former employees say this betrays that the infrastructure problems are being exaggerated. Related Articles The Kennedy Center rejected this claim in a Friday statement quoted by the Times, saying that the severity of the problems has only recently come to light. “The Kennedy Center has known for years that the roof overhang leaked,” said executive director Matt Floca. “What we did not know until this summer was how far the damage had spread inside it.” Congress set aside $257 million for repairs to the building. President Donald Trump, who has assumed the position of chairman of the board of trustees and who appointed Floca, has called …

The Sweetest Fiend by Raven Kennedy

The Sweetest Fiend by Raven Kennedy

The Pied Piper of Hamelin is a very short story with a hole in the middle. A town has rats, a stranger clears them, the town refuses to pay, the stranger takes the children. No old version explains what he wanted them for. The Sweetest Fiend by Raven Kennedy is built inside that hole, and the architecture is the reason to read it. What the Legend Gives Raven Kennedy The bones are borrowed and load-bearing. A walled city called Hamelyn. A rat plague. A piper in a ragged colour cloak who arrives uninvited, solves the problem and presents a bill. A governor who will not pay. What The Sweetest Fiend by Raven Kennedy adds is the invoice. Thirty thousand coins, refused, so the piper takes one hundred and thirty people instead, and that transaction is not the ending but roughly the first sixth. Everything afterward answers the question the legend leaves blank. Around it sits a world worth the effort. Thirty years ago the earth cracked and the molten core came up through it. The …

Beatty Asks Judge to Make ‘Crystal Clear’ Trump Can’t Demolish Kennedy Center

When Getty photographer Brendan Smialowski captured a photo on Wednesday night of Air Force One after landing at Joint Base Andrews, outside Washington, D.C., it showed president Donald Trump in a red baseball cap reading a placard that seems to read “Kennedy Center DEMOLISHED.” This led to an emergency Thursday filing by Joyce Beatty, Democratic US Representative for Ohio’s Third Congressional District and an ex officio trustee of the Center, asking the federal judge in the ongoing Kennedy Center case “to make crystal clear that its order prohibits demolishing the structure.” Related Articles On Wednesday, Trump said, “For me to go and fix it and subsidize it, I think the Trump administration should have recognition. If we don’t do that, it’s going to close and get ripped down.” “It goes without saying that demolishing the Kennedy Center’s main building would violate the Court’s preliminary injunction: Closure is both a prelude to and the necessary consequence of demolition,” says Beatty’s filing. “But out of an abundance of caution, Plaintiff also respectfully requests the Court to make …
