Three Years Ago Today, “Avengers” Director Joe Russo Predicted There Would Be a Fully AI-Generated Movie Within Two Years

Sign up to see the future, today Can’t-miss innovations from the bleeding edge of science and tech Hollywood has been “cooked” for years now, according to AI fanatics, yet movies still remain largely human-made, and nothing even close to an AI-generated blockbuster has hit the silver screen. Even certain filmmakers have also been guilty of overselling the tech’s capabilities. Take “Avengers: Endgame” director Joe Russo, who enthused in an interview with Collider that there would be a fully AI movie within “two years” — exactly three years ago. Perhaps Russo was thinking of the direction his own filmography was headed in, which has felt increasingly AI-generated with each successive film. “The Gray Man” (2022) was a $200 million anonymous cobbling together of action set pieces reheated from better movies that not even Ryan Gosling could save. The Electric State (2025), which cost $320 million, could reasonably be accused of being written by ChatGPT, and its fake-movie aesthetic is a “make it EPIC!” AI-bowdlerization of the illustrated novel it was very loosely based on. Demi Lovato Duets With Joe Jonas, Connects With Selena Gomez On Tour

Demi Lovato Duets With Joe Jonas, Connects With Selena Gomez On Tour

Demi Lovato had a Disney Channel full-circle moment during the opening night of her It’s Not That Deep tour at the Kia Center in Orlando on Monday night, as the singer reconnected with Selena Gomez after years of estrangement and was joined onstage by her Camp Rock co-star (and ex-boyfriend) Joe Jonas for a surprise performance of Camp Rock classic “This Is Me.” Those were healing moments that reflected a new air of confidence Lovato exuded as she strutted down the catwalk during opening night. Her smiles were wide, her chin held high, and she locked into the crowd with a clear understanding of the power she holds with her microphone. That’s why Monday’s opening night concert felt extra special: it was Lovato returning to what she does best.  Monday night marked the start of Lovato’s 18-show run, where she’s also set to perform next in D.C. on April 16 before shows in Philly, Boston, and New York’s Madison Square Garden before a run on the west coast. She’ll close the run on May 25 …

Joe Bini on ‘Burden of Other People’s Dreams: Chapter One – Ganymede’

Joe Bini on ‘Burden of Other People’s Dreams: Chapter One – Ganymede’

Imagine sitting down in a room with an iPad, a screen and loudspeakers. After a brief introduction to the set-up, you are in there, alone, for what is described as an 80- to 90-minute “live cinema experience.” Its title: Burden of Other People’s Dreams: Chapter One – Ganymede. After you look around the room a bit, you pick up the iPad. And off you are on a surreal journey. If you are now wondering what the heck I am talking about, the creator of the experience, Joe Bini, is likely smiling. Yeah, THAT Joe Bini! The creative, who in his work as an editor has collaborated with the likes of Werner Herzog, Andrea Arnold and many others. While that work is all about helping someone else’s creative vision become reality, Bini has now created something very, very different. Is it a book? Is it a movie? Well, it doesn’t really matter what you call it. What it is for sure is a sold-out offering that is part of the Inter:Active Exhibition at the 23rd edition of CPH:DOX, …

The Cautionary Tale of Joe Kent

The Cautionary Tale of Joe Kent

This is an edition of The Atlantic Daily, a newsletter that guides you through the biggest stories of the day, helps you discover new ideas, and recommends the best in culture. Sign up for it here. When Joe Kent, the director of the National Counterterrorism Center, resigned today in protest of the Iran war, he blamed everyone except the person who launched it. In his resignation letter, addressed to President Trump, Kent portrays the president as a passive figure manipulated by others—“high-ranking Israeli officials” and “influential members of the American media”—rather than the most powerful person imposing his will upon the world. Again and again, Kent casts Trump, a two-term president, as someone swept up in events rather than driving them. “I support the values and the foreign policies that you campaigned on in 2016, 2020, 2024, which you enacted in your first term,” Kent writes. “Until June of 2025, you understood that the wars in the Middle East were a trap that robbed America of the precious lives of our patriots and depleted the …

The Logic of Joe Kent’s Resignation Letter

The Logic of Joe Kent’s Resignation Letter

In February 2025, Donald Trump nominated Joe Kent, a 2020-election conspiracy theorist with links to the Proud Boys and white supremacists, as head of the National Counterterrorism Center. What could possibly go wrong? Kent’s beliefs did not complicate his tenure, during which Trump continued smearing minorities and insisting the 2020 presidential election had been stolen. The sticking point, rather, became the war in Iran. Kent resigned today from the administration, protesting that Trump, a figure he idolizes, has been manipulated by Israel and its American lobby. “In your first administration, you understood better than any modern President how to decisively apply military power without getting us drawn into never-ending wars,” Kent wrote in his resignation letter. Yet, “early in this administration, high-ranking Israeli officials and influential members of the American media deployed a misinformation campaign that wholly undermined your America First platform and sowed pro-war sentiments to encourage a war with Iran.” Yair Rosenberg: The real reason Trump went to war It seems odd that Trump could simultaneously understand how to avoid bad wars better …

Dakota Fanning in Joe Swanberg Dramedy

Dakota Fanning in Joe Swanberg Dramedy

“Zero part of me wants to do what I’m doing right now,” insists Jack (Jake Johnson) as he prepares to tell Wendy (Dakota Fanning), his girlfriend of two years, that he thinks they should take a six-month break. He believes she needs the space to figure out what she wants, even as she pleads that what she wants is him. Oddly, he seems to mean it, or at least to believe he does. He really is happy with her; he really doesn’t have an ulterior motive; he really does intend to just sit around for the next six months, waiting to see if she returns. The Sun Never Sets The Bottom Line On again and off again, on and on again. Billie Joe Armstrong Records ‘Heroes’ Cover For ‘Survivor 50’

Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong is releasing a cover of David Bowie’s classic “Heroes” to commemorate the upcoming 50th season of Survivor. The song, which released Friday morning, comes a month before Survivor season 50 is set to start on February 25. Armstrong performed the cover with his son Jakob, and it plays in the latest promo trailer for Survivor 50, which THR can exclusively debut. The Armstrongs’ cover is just the latest high-profile showcase of Bowie’s classic on the screen after the song soundtracked the Stranger Things series finale earlier this month. Other than the survivor collab, Armstrong and Bay Area natives Green Day will be performing during the opening ceremony for the Super Bowl at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara in February. Survivor‘s 50th season will feature 24 returning competitors, which will include White Lotus creator Mike White alongside other returning players from the previous 49 seasons including Cirie Fields, Colby Donaldson and Dee Valladares. Season 50 is set to showcase some celebrity appearances from the likes of Zac Brown, Billie Eilish, …

Joe Wicks on protein, the UPF trap and why cooking beats snacking

Joe Wicks on protein, the UPF trap and why cooking beats snacking

There was a time, not so long ago, when Joe Wicks belonged to the nation. He was in living rooms at 9am, barking burpees at children while frazzled parents tried to remember how to lunge. “The nation’s PE teacher,” they called him, and the name stuck. “I haven’t heard that for ages,” he laughs, speaking to my colleague Emilie Lavinia on the The Independent’s Well Enough podcast. “It’s been a while… six years ago, in lockdown.” He insisted he never crowned himself, but for all the humility, he’s fond of the title. “It’s the proudest thing I’ve achieved.” Post-pandemic, Wicks has been busy. The Body Coach app, children’s books, a Channel 4 documentary, a small army of followers trying to sculpt abs in the morning before the school run, and now a cookbook called Protein in 15. Given the moment – the “protein era”, if we must – the timing is exquisite. Supermarket shelves are groaning with high-protein everything. Bars, crisps, puddings, yoghurts, popcorn, bagels, ice cream, cereals, brownies, pizzas. If you can eat it, …
