The UK is to be heit by a 21C “mini heatwave” this weekend, according to the latest weather maps. Forecasters at WXCharts say Brits should prepare for warm weather on Sunday, May 12, with the south of the country seeing the best of the weather. East Anglia, London and the Midlands are to see the best of the weather with a chance of temperatures higher than 20C, while almost all of the country will see temperatures in excess of 17C. In the north, the hottest places will be Liverpool, Glasgow and Newcastle which should all see the mercury rise to around 19C, the charts predict. While there will be warmer weather, the period will not officially be a heatwave. The Met Office says a heatwave is a period of at least three consecutive days with daily maximum temperatures meeting or exceeding 25C. For the same period the national forecaster predicted “fine and dry” weather for the majority of Britain. Its forecast for the period between Friday, May 10 and Sunday, May 19, read: “There is …

After another wet winter, record rainfall has turned California green and replenished the state’s reservoirs, which had been perilously low during the worst days of the drought. Lake Oroville, the state’s second-biggest reservoir, often serves as a rainfall barometer. As of Tuesday, Oroville was at 100% capacity, according to data from the state Department of Water Resources. “This is great news for ensuring adequate water supply for millions of Californians and environmental needs and we continue to manage both while maintaining flood protection for downstream communities,” the department wrote on Facebook. The images below show the difference in water levels between a low Lake Oroville and where it is now. The left photograph shows Enterprise Bridge on Dec. 21, 2022, when the lake was at 29% of its total capacity. The right side shows the same area April 24, 2024, when the lake was at 96% of capacity — a figure it has now eclipsed. As of May 7, Lake Oroville was at 128% of its historical level. Charles Spencer always leaves fans delighted whenever he shares a glimpse of his incredible home, Althorp House. On Tuesday, the 9th Earl Spencer captured a glimpse of the stunning, rarely-seen Arboretum in the grounds of the sprawling family estate.  “Birdsong this morning, in the Arboretum at Althorp #dawnchorus #birdsong #althorp #soundsofnature,” he captioned the springtime clip. The video panned around the 13,000 acre estate showing off the immaculately trimmed grass, perfectly shaped trees and the beautiful birdsong in the sunshine.  “Nature’s Orchestra…..there is no better sound, in my humble opinion,” one fan commented.
