King Charles and Queen Camilla led the royal family as they stepped out for the Easter Mattins Service at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle on Sunday.  But this year, as Buckingham Palace had previously announced, the service was a scaled-down affair that saw much smaller numbers of the royal family in attendance.  WATCH: King Charles and Queen Camilla beam as they arrive for annual Mattins service Among those who were notably absent from the church outing included the Prince and Princess of Wales and their children. Israel strikes in Syria kill dozens, including soldiers and Hezbollah militants

Israel carried out airstrikes in Syria early Friday that killed dozens of Syrian soldiers and several members of Hezbollah as well as civilians, according to a spokesperson for Hezbollah and Syria’s state news agency. The attack, which occurred near the northern Syrian city of Aleppo, marked the most significant escalation of Israel’s military campaign against Iranian-backed forces beyond its borders since the outbreak of the war in Gaza. The Israeli military, which rarely acknowledges its Syria operations, declined to comment on the strikes. Hezbollah, a Lebanese militant group and political party, announced Friday that seven of its members had been killed, without providing details on the circumstances. A spokesperson for the group, who spoke on the condition of anonymity according to the organization’s rules, said four of the group’s members had been killed in the Aleppo strikes. The spokesperson also said dozens of Syrian soldiers were killed. Earlier in the day, Syrian state news agency SANA reported that an unspecified number of “civilians and soldiers” were killed and wounded in early-morning attacks in Aleppo province. …

Rishi Sunak has been criticised for announcing a “surprise” round of honours – including a knighthood for a major donor to the Conservative Party. It was announced on the Thursday before the Easter bank holiday weekend that Mohamed Mansour was being knighted for business, charity and political service – he had given £5m to the Tories in 2023 and is a senior treasurer at the party. A number of Conservative MPs were also made knights and dames. Politics latest: Michael Gove predicts election date Labour’s chair, Anneliese Dodds, said Mr Sunak‘s nominations were “either the arrogant act of an entitled man who’s stopped caring what the public thinks, or the demob-happy self-indulgence of someone who doesn’t expect to be prime minister much longer”. Asked by Sky News if Labour would rule out giving donors honours if they were in government, Ms Dodds said giving money should not be an “automatic pass”. Following the announcement, Mr Mansour said: “This award is the greatest honour of my life. I am thrilled and hugely grateful. “This award would …

Revolutionary molecule combats autoimmune diseases, including lupus and Crohn’s disease

This groundbreaking study marks a significant step forward in our understanding of autoimmune disorders, offering a ray of hope for millions of individuals grappling with autoimmune disorders. (CREDIT: Velimir Zeland / Shutterstock) In a groundbreaking discovery, scientists at Scripps Research have developed a tiny molecule that could pave the way for innovative therapies targeting autoimmune diseases, such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and Crohn’s disease. At the heart of this breakthrough is a protein called SLC15A4, previously deemed “undruggable” due to its elusive nature. For years, scientists struggled to isolate it, unravel its structure, or understand its precise role within the immune system. However, that has all changed now, thanks to this groundbreaking research. Published in the prestigious journal Nature Chemical Biology, this research brings newfound hope for millions of individuals grappling with autoimmune disorders.
