Your next thermal paste replacement should also include one thing most people ignore

You can try putting aside your GPU’s thermal paste replacement and opt for fixes like adjusting the fan curve, cleaning off dust, or undervolting to limit the overall power draw and keep temperatures stable. However, at some point, replacing thermal paste becomes an inescapable task that every PC owner must tackle, no matter how intricate or daunting it may seem. For modern GPUs, just a simple thermal paste isn’t sufficient. There are also thermal pads inside your GPU that, just like thermal paste, can dry out over time. When that happens, your GPU will silently throttle without you even realizing it. Related My laptop now runs much cooler and the fix was only $5 You can go lower. Thermal paste isn’t the whole story Your VRAM silently gets cooked while you’re too focused on the core temperatures Your GPU is made up of several components, and the center die isn’t the only thing that matters. In fact, other components matter equally, such as the memory controller, VRAM, and VRM. Specifically, the VRAM chips also run …

Per the NHS, it can be caused by everything from strains and twists during exercise to conditions like osteoarthritis (knee osteoarthritis seems to be the most common form of the disease). According to Dr Syed Nadeem Abbas, a surgeon and regenerative medicine expert from the Knee Pain Clinic, “most knee pain [among over-40s] comes down to wear and tear, and that’s still the most likely explanation.”  However, he says one type of knee pain should always be investigated. Speak to your doctor about night knee pain  “What tends to get missed is pain that doesn’t follow the usual rules, pain that’s worse at rest than at activity, or wakes someone up at night rather than settling,” the expert said. “That’s the pattern I’d always want checked properly rather than put down to getting older, because catching anything unusual early makes a real difference to the outcome.”  Knee pain caused by osteoarthritis or overuse tends to ease …

These include heavy sweating, losing weight without meaning to, and feeling exhausted no matter how well you sleep. And according to Dr Nada Hindiyeh, a neurologist and the chief medical officer of Haven Headache and Migraine Centre, some headache signs are always worth investigating, too. “As a headache neurologist, there are several symptoms that can be concerning because they may point to something more serious than a primary headache disorder like migraine,” she shared.  Here are five signs she thinks should always be addressed: 1) A sudden, “thunderclap” headache  These involve sudden, agonising pain that doesn’t go away. Thunderclap headaches “reach maximum intensity within seconds to a minute [and are] often described as the ‘worst headache of [patients’] life,” Dr Hindiyeh said. “This can be a sign of sudden bleeding around the brain (subarachnoid hemorrhage) and requires immediate emergency evaluation.” The NHS says you should call 999 or go to A&E if you have a thunderclap headache. …

Whatever You Do, Don’t Ignore Friday’s Selloff

Whatever You Do, Don’t Ignore Friday’s Selloff

Submitted by QTR’s Fringe Finance By 1PM Friday, the Nasdaq was already down roughly 3.3%, and suddenly the same crowd that spent the last few months explaining why valuations don’t matter is asking what is happening. Bitcoin has also been taken behind the woodshed, crashing to around $60,000. Depending on where you’re measuring from, that’s a brutal decline in a remarkably short period of time. It’s down about 42% over the last twelve months. And it’s becoming clear that bitcoin bulls all have breaking points. And I don’t want to sound like a d*ck, but frankly, none of this — the market tanking, or how it’s happening — is really surprising. I’ve written for years that I think crypto is the tip of the risk-on spear. It tends to be the first asset class investors pile into when liquidity is abundant, speculation is rampant, and everyone is convinced they’re smarter than the market. It’s also frequently the first thing to crack when risk appetite begins to fade. So I’m not terribly surprised that after bitcoin started …

The five gynaecological symptoms you should never ignore

The five gynaecological symptoms you should never ignore

Relying on artificial intelligence for medical advice could be dangerous, a leading charity has warned, after finding that AI chatbots frequently provide inaccurate or outdated information regarding gynaecological cancers. The Eve Appeal, as part of its ‘Get Lippy’ campaign, commissioned a YouGov survey of over 2,000 women across the UK, revealing a concerning trend. Nearly one in ten (9%) admitted to seeking health advice from AI platforms after experiencing gynaecological symptoms. While 28% were prompted to consult a doctor by the chatbot’s responses, a worrying 24% felt falsely reassured that their symptoms were not cause for concern. Further investigation by The Eve Appeal involved testing 25 scenarios with ChatGPT. In a critical finding, the AI tool failed to identify ovarian cancer as a potential cause for persistent bloating lasting more than three weeks – a recognised key symptom of the disease. The charity also highlighted that much of the information provided by ChatGPT was either irrelevant to the UK health system, did not align with NHS guidance, or was simply outdated and inaccurate. The findings …

More than a rash, a painful condition not to ignore

More than a rash, a painful condition not to ignore

Singapore sees an estimated 30,000 shingles cases annually. Adults aged 50 and above, whose immune systems tend to weaken with age, are more prone to developing shingles. They are also more likely to experience complications. About half report persistent nerve pain for at least a month after the rash first appears, while one in five experience it for more than six months*. BEYOND THE RASH: HOW SHINGLES IMPACTS DAILY LIVING For Mr Chen, the most unforgettable part was the itching and stinging pain. “It felt like ants were biting me, but I couldn’t scratch. It was unbearable,” said the 76-year-old.  In addition to the physical discomfort, shingles affected Mr Chen’s well-being and daily life. Throughout his three to four weeks of recovery, he experienced insomnia and low energy.  Mr Richard Low, 73, who is also part of the OG Gang, similarly did not realise at first that he had shingles. While on holiday in China about 13 years ago, a small red dot on his left eyelid grew over four days into a larger patch …

This is the easiest way to customize your Apple Watch — and most people ignore it

I don’t often change the watch face on my Apple Watch for one simple reason: it’s a huge pain. Adjusting complications, customizing colors, and moving things to just the right position on a screen that measures only 1.5–1.7″ is cumbersome. If it were easier, I’d probably change my watch face more often, perhaps to complement what I’m wearing or to have info and functions that I need for that day. But there’s a super-easy way to customize your Apple Watch face that most people ignore. It comes from a relatively hidden accessibility feature in iOS that lets you mirror your Apple Watch on your iPhone in real time, blowing up the screen significantly and making it infinitely easier to customize your watch. I’ll show you how to access this feature easily. Apple Watch Mirroring setup It’s an accessibility feature There are two ways to trigger Apple Watch mirroring, both of which involve invoking an accessibility shortcut. To make this work, you just need an iPhone running iOS 16 or later and an Apple Watch with …
