Grant and Morgan have been engaged in a spat on X this week after the government ruled out a reopening of the Leveson Inquiry, which Grant has been leading calls for. Defence secretary John Healey insisted that there will be no new inquiry or restrictions into the activities of the media in the UK despite The Sun paying damages to Prince Harry this week. In response to the government’s decision, Grant had told Radio 4’s Today: “I have some sympathy, when I’m in a generous mood, for politicians terrified of the Murdochs.” Murdoch owns News Group Newspapers (NGN), owner of The Sun and the now defunct News of the World. Morgan then took to X to call Grant a “hypocrite”, claiming the actor had …

Hugh Grant Insists He Was Only Joking About Hating Filming Wonka

Hugh Grant Insists He Was Only Joking About Hating Filming Wonka

Hugh Grant has admitted that having his words twisted in the online media is one of the main reasons he “loathes” the internet. During a new interview with Variety, the Heretic star recalled his recent appearance in the screen musical Wonka, in which he played an especially straight-talking Oompa Loompa. While promoting the film, he and his colleagues were asked how they found the experience of making it. “Everyone said, ‘Yes, we loved it. We loved it. We loved it’, and when they got to me, just for a comedy moment at the end, I said, ‘I hated it’,” he explained. “But on the web, it’s become a fact that I hated making that film,” Hugh continued. “And I didn’t hate it all; I loved making it. I’m absolutely thrilled with it.” He then lamented: “That’s what the internet does. It scrubs humour, and it scrubs context to create little clickbait moments. It’s one of the reasons I loathe it with such violence, really.” These characters have included a right-leaning historian in Netflix’s Death To… …

Hugh Grant has left romcoms behind – but now he risks another kind of typecasting

Grant plays a charming posho with a knack for transforming even the most straightforward piece of dialogue into a bumbling collage of “erm”s and “aah”s. He exclaims “bugger!” a lot, often while bumping into various beautiful women. The floppiness of his fringe is inversely proportional to his level of caddishness (if his hair’s longer, he’s nice; if it’s shorter, run). And if Richard Curtis isn’t in the director’s seat, then his name is quite probably lurking somewhere in the credits. For a very long time, thanks to films such as Four Weddings and a Funeral and Notting Hill, Grant was synonymous with a particular sub-genre of romantic hero: one who lived in a nice part of west London and was good at swearing Britishly. …

Hugh Grant Had A Near-Death Experience Making 1 Of His Most Iconic Films

Hugh Grant was almost involved in a near-fatal incident while filming Four Weddings And A Funeral, the director has revealed. The British actor played the lead in Richard Curtis’ hit rom-com, which follows a group of friends navigating love and loss in the mid-1990s. In a new Guardian interview to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the film, director Mike Newell recalled one scene which could have ended in disaster. Recalling the opening scene, in which Hugh’s character and his best friend Scarlett (Charlotte Coleman) are racing to make it to the first of the titular weddings, the director said: “That scene on the motorway, for some reason, Hugh was actually driving. He shouldn’t have been but he was.” He continued: “They were within inches of backing at full speed into a truck that was coming at them. “I suddenly saw the whole film collapsing in front of me, and what I had done was engineer the death of the leading man on the motorway.” Hugh Grant and Charlotte Coleman on the set of Four Weddings …
