‘King of the Hill’ Actor Jonathan Joss Killed in Texas Shooting

Jonathan Joss, an actor of Apache and Comanche descent best known for voicing John Redcorn on the long-running animated television series King of the Hill, died in a shooting in San Antonio, Texas on Sunday. He was 59. According to a statement posted on Joss’s Facebook page by his husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, Joss’s death was the result of a homophobic hate crime. In the post, which now has over 17,000 reactions, Gonzales writes that he and Joss were “involved in a shooting while checking the mail at the site of our former home,” a house he alleges was burned down over two years ago by “individuals who made it clear they did not accept our relationship” via continued threats and harassment. Gonzales says that he and Joss reported those to law enforcement to no avail. When Gonzales and Joss arrived at the site of their former home, they allegedly “discovered the skull of one of our dogs and its harness placed in clear view,” wrote Gonzales. Per Gonzales, this caused both parties “severe …

King Of The Hill and Parks And Recreation actor Jonathan Joss shot dead in Texas | US News

An actor who appeared in animated series King Of The Hill and hit show Parks And Recreation has been shot dead near his home. Jonathan Joss, 59, was found injured by police in San Antonio, Texas, on Sunday evening. Officers tried to save him but he was pronounced dead at the scene. The actor’s husband claimed the gunman shouted “violent homophobic slurs” before opening fire, and that Joss had pushed him out the way to save his life. “He was murdered by someone who could not stand the sight of two men loving each other,” alleged Tristan Kern de Gonzales on Facebook. He said the couple had previously faced harassment from neighbours, much of it “openly homophobic”. Joss’s husband said they had been checking for mail at his old home – which earlier this year burned down in a fire that killed their three dogs – when they noticed the skull of one of the animals in front of the property. He said they began “yelling and crying” and claimed they were approached by a …

Riders on Montmartre Hill during the road race event of the Paris Olympics, August 3, 2024. JULIEN DE ROSA / AFP Emmanuel Macron personally revealed the news on Tuesday, May 13, during his extensive interview with TF1. “I am announcing to you that, for the first time, the Tour de France, our beloved Tour, (…) will finish on this same route,” the president enthused. He made the announcement in front of a photograph of thousands of people gathered on Rue Lepic (in the 18th arrondissement) during the Olympic road race in Paris on August 3, 2024. Following this announcement by the president, the organizers of the Tour de France confirmed that the 2025 edition’s route (from July 5 to 27) will indeed pass through Montmartre during the 21st and final stage. This stage will then conclude on the Champs-Elysées, as it has every year since 1975 – with the exception of 2024, due to the Olympic Games. The idea had been considered for many months, in an attempt to revitalize this final day of the …

Ushers – A Short Story by Joe Hill

Ushers – A Short Story by Joe Hill

In Joe Hill’s latest short story “Ushers,” death arrives wearing not a black hood and carrying a scythe, but dressed in a sooty cassock with iridescent pigeon wings. This haunting tale of mortality, fate, and the price of intervention weaves together elements of supernatural horror with contemporary crime fiction, delivering a narrative that’s both unsettling and thought-provoking, even if it occasionally stumbles in its execution. The Story Behind Death’s Door Set against the backdrop of a federal investigation, “Ushers” follows Martin Lorensen, a 23-year-old counselor at a mental health facility who has mysteriously avoided two mass casualty events – a school shooting and a train derailment. When FBI Special Agents Duvall and Oates (yes, the naming is intentionally amusing) investigate these coincidences, they uncover Martin’s extraordinary ability to see death’s harbingers – beings he calls “ushers,” who appear to collect souls at the moment of death. Strengths: Where Hill Soars Masterful Character Development Joe Hill’s greatest triumph in “Ushers” is his creation of Martin Lorensen. Despite the supernatural elements surrounding him, Martin remains deeply human …

Psychological Ghost Story Went Up the Hill

Psychological Ghost Story Went Up the Hill

There are plenty of horror films on offer at the AFM this year but Went Up the Hill, the second film from New Zealand director Samuel Van Grinsven offers a very different take on the genre, using a story of haunting and possession to probe much deeper emotional terrain. Stranger Things star Dacre Montgomery and Vicky Krieps (Old, Phantom Thread) play the titular Jack and Jill, two strangers connected through their troubled relationship to Elizabeth — the mother who abandoned Jack and was Jill’s domineering and lover. The pair meet at a wake after Elizabeth’s suicide. Jill asks Jack to stay. That night, Elizabeth’s ghost possesses Jill to speak to Jack. Later the process is reversed: Elizabeth possesses her son Jack to interact with her former lover. “It’s a three-hander played by two people, with two people playing the same person,” says Montgomery. We’re not in Exorcist territory here. Krieps and Montgomery deliver spectacularly understated performances with no spooky voices or OTT violence and only subtle cues to indicate the shift. Krieps, playing Jill possessed …

Hill, 49, was scheduled to hit the road with the Fugees in November 2023 for the second half of their world tour before it was abruptly canceled by Hill due to “serious vocal strain.” They were due to perform a string of US dates this year before those were quietly axed as well. In a complaint filed on Tuesday (October 1) in the Southern District of New York by her Fugees bandmate Michél – and seen by Variety – he claimed the 2023 tour was supposed to be “a huge commercial success, since most of shows for the entire arena size tour were sold out in advance.” …
