At this year’s bash, the reality star appeared to have trouble walking ― and breathing ― in her custom Maison Margiela Artisanal gown by John Galliano, which Kim basically confirmed in a video with Vogue. The Skims founder called breathing in her corset “an art form” but said she had a handle on it in the video, released days after the event. Walking proved to be another “issue,” and for good reason. Kim explained that she wore shoes without a heel to make sure her look stayed intact, though it did make it more of a challenge to get up the Met Gala stairs. “It’s clever because if I had a shoe with a heel, the heel gets stuck in the metal skirt. And so that was our issue with walking,” the American Horror Story star explained while holding up the acrylic, heel-less platforms for the camera. “To wear these, you’re on your tiptoes and you’re balancing the whole time flexing your calf muscles,” Kim said. “So that’s what I’m gonna have to do ― …
Stay ahead of the curve with our weekly guide to the latest trends, fashion, relationships and more Stay ahead of the curve with our weekly guide to the latest trends, fashion, relationships and more Cardi B has clarified why she referred to the designer of her Met Gala gown as “Asian,” rather than calling him by his name. The 31-year-old rapper was one of the many stars who walked the red carpet at the 2024 Met Gala in New York City on Monday. During an interview at the fashion extravaganza with Emma Chamberlain, Cardi B opened up about her voluminous black dress, which she said was made by “an amazing designer” who was “Asian and everything”. Following the event, she was hit with immense criticism for referring to the designer, Sensen Lii, as Asian, withVogue‘s former managing director Gilbert Cheah writing on Instagram that Cardi B should have “remembered” Lii’s name. The “Bodak Yellow” singer then went to her Instagram Story to defend herself and respond to Cheah, acknowledging why she felt so nervous on …
Cardi B posted, and subsequently deleted, a video defending a foot-in-mouth moment at Monday’s Met Gala. All eyes were on the rapper as she made her way up the stairs in a giant black gown by designer Sensen Lii of Windowsen, but when it was time to tell everyone who’s fashion she was wearing, Cardi blanked. Instead of saying she forgot, the Up artist referred to Lii as “this amazing designer” who is “Asian and everything”, a move that made more than a few fashionistas cringe. One particular critic was Vogue’s former managing editor Gilbert Cheah, who remarked on Cardi’s flub in an Instagram comment. “For the record and recognition, and no thanks to Cardi B, the designer of her gown is Sensen Lii who’s Chinese,” Cheah said of the sprawling ebony design, which needed seven assistants to carry and unfurl. “The gown took two months to make,” the fashion editor noted. Ending with a dig, he said: “I personally think it’s boring and not even on theme but she chose it and should have …
You probably noticed that there were a few famed faces missing from this year’s Met Gala guest list, one of those being our style muse Bella Hadid. Although she wasn’t in attendance for the fashion sphere’s most famed night of the year, her recent floral printed corset silk dress would have been perfect for “The Garden of Time” dress code. © GettyShe is the definition of glowing Posting to her 60.7 million Instagram followers and papped in NYC a few days ago, Bella donned a striking buttercup-yellow silk slip gown, adorned with an intricate romantic floral pattern in rich reds, baby blues, blush pinks and glistening golds. She paired the dress with a long-line waist, lace up corset made from the same fabric which she wore over top of her slinky gown. © GettyIf I had seen this outfit on the Met steps I wouldn’t have even questioned it She accessorised the look with a pair of light-catching strappy gold heels, a stack of her favourite rings and a set of diamond stud earrings. Renowned on both sides of the Atlantic as one of the most A-list nights in the showbiz calendar, the Met Gala is known for its incredible guestlist, jaw-dropping fashion statements and, more often than not, puzzling themes. But one thing people have always been a little hazy about is… what actually happens when celebrities get inside. Well, Emmy-winning actor (and Met Ball staple) Sarah Jessica Parker has spilled the beans. During an interview on Today the morning after this year’s Met Gala, SJP was quizzed on exactly what goes on inside the exclusive event. The annual event is actually a fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, with the Sex And The City star revealing that once you “manage to get up those steps”, guests are “among the very privileged few who get to see the new exhibit early”. Guests make their way into the 2024 Met Gala Neilson Barnard/MG24 via Getty Images Sarah Jessica revealed that organiser Anna Wintour gives the A-list attendees timeslots to arrive, with the Emmy winner revealing she …
The Met Gala is always a fantastic celeb-spotting event. We love to see who switches up their look, who keeps things natural and who is frankly, completely unrecognisable. The social channels are packed with our favourite looks but the one we couldn’t stop gushing over was from actress Michelle Williams. Swapping her trademark blonde pixie crop for a pastel pink hue, Michelle looked like a pixie fairy on the Met’s green carpet, dressed in a voluminous white Chanel gown. © GettyMichelle wore a smoky eye and pink lip The Fabelmans actress routinely relies on her favourite makeup artist, Angela Levin to create her beauty look and the Met Ball was no exception. Posting on Instagram, Angela went into detail about the inspiration behind Michelle’s look: “When I was thinking about my makeup inspiration for this years exciting Met Gala, I wanted to create something ethereal but with an edge, which represents Michelle at her core. What came to mind was an image of an angel in a French new wave era. And there it was, my …
It was always going to be a great night for vintage fashion with the theme of the Met Gala this year being “The Garden of Time”, inspired by J.G. Ballard’s 1962 short story of the same name. It also marked the opening of the Costume Institution’s spring 2024 exhibit, entitled Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion. Open to the public this Friday, the exhibition in New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art centres around 250 garments and accessories that span over four decades of history, making them too delicate and fragile to ever be worn again. So it came as no surprise that many of fashion’s major houses decided to play on this theme, using both vintage and vintage-inspired creations, as well as upcycled and archival textiles, to dress some of our favourite A-listers on what has become fashion’s most revered night. First up, all eyes were on Gala co-chair and actress of the moment, Zendaya, who stole the show with not one, but two incredible creations by John Galliano. Having taken a hiatus from the Met Gala carpet, …
Stay ahead of the curve with our weekly guide to the latest trends, fashion, relationships and more Stay ahead of the curve with our weekly guide to the latest trends, fashion, relationships and more Influencer Haley Kalil has received swift backlash from the internet over a TikTok video of her 2024 Met Gala outfit. Before attending fashion’s biggest night on Monday, the social media personality posted a video commemorating her elaborate gown and headdress designed by Marc Bower. However, according to viewers, Kalil committed an epic faux pas when she chose to soundtrack the video to the viral sound from Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette, in which the late queen proclaims the oft-debated quote, “Let them eat cake!” Historically, the quote is seen as emblematic of tone-deaf aristocrats and bourgeoisie class. The annual Met Gala is an evening in which the rich and famous congregate – from billionaires to acclaimed actors, everyone in attendance is either a known member of the one per cent or heavily-lauded masters of their craft. With the sheer exclusivity of the …
