They’ve made it to the final in three of the past four World Cups and European Championships – and were an Emiliano Martinez save away from being consecutive World Cup champions at Qatar 2022. This astonishing level of consistency can be credited to the seemingly bottomless pool of talent the nation can draw from. Celebrity Gogglebox Is Welcoming Back These Old Favourites

Gogglebox bosses have revealed they’re welcoming back some old faces in the latest episode of the show’s celebrity edition. On Friday night, father-and-son duo Martin and Roman Kemp will be back on the sofa offering their critiques on the past week of TV. Also returning to the show are mum-and-daughter Andi and Miquita Oliver, who first appeared on Celebrity Gogglebox in 2021. It was previously revealed that Gogglebox staple Denise Van Outen would also be back in Friday night’s instalment, having previously been joined on the sofa by her ex-fiancé Eddie Boxshall and close pal Duncan James. “Let the carnage commence!” Denise joked on Instagram alongside a picture of herself and her former Big Breakfast co-host in action. Mel B is also set to return to Gogglebox, this time with her eldest daughter Phoenix. The star-studded show returned to our screens last week, with fan-favourites like Rylan Clark and his mum Linda, Danny and Dani Dyer and Jane McDonald and her right-hand woman Sue all on the line-up for the new series. Fresh air B&B: after yurts and huts, now treehouses are glampers’ favourites | Travel

Fresh air B&B: after yurts and huts, now treehouses are glampers’ favourites | Travel

Simon Dickson thinks there’s nothing like seeing a nuthatch on the branch of a 100-year-old oak right outside your window. For Jason Thawley, the best view is the dappled shadows of a tree canopy over your bed. And the treehouse designers are finding that tourists agree with them. Treehouses are fast becoming the UK’s most sought-after holiday destinations, as travellers look for something special to help them tune out and immerse themselves in nature. Established hotels, glamping companies and letting agencies are adding treehouses to their portfolios. Britain’s first treehouse hotel, TreeDwellers, opened in the Cotswolds in March, and the first tree tent campsite opens in West Sussex next month. Travel company Canopy & Stars, which specialises in luxury glamping (glamorous camping), found that sophisticated cabins and treehouses now generate 70% of its revenue, according to its 2024 market report, and represent more than half of its property collection. Six of its 10 most booked spaces in 2023 were treehouses. The Pennard Hide tree tent in Somerset. Photograph: Tree Tents International [email protected]/PR Liz Simpson, co-founder …

Kedgeree and lamb curry: Tamal Ray’s recipes for homely favourites | Food

Kedgeree and lamb curry: Tamal Ray’s recipes for homely favourites | Food

This week, I bring you two approaches to weeknight dinner. First, a new take on kedgeree that’s swiftly put together and swaps the traditional boiled eggs for roast aubergines. Kedgeree was the invention of the British in colonial India, but was inspired by khichuri, a more ancient dish of rice and lentils, so here I’ve reinstated the pulses in the form of mung dal and peas: an Indian dish, adapted by the British, and changed again by an Indian living in Britain. The other dish is a smoky lamb curry that I often make ahead at the weekend – it freezes really well and makes for a bowl of richly spiced comfort to come home to. Kedgeree (pictured top) This is inspired both by my mother’s Bengali khichuri and the classic British kedgeree. Prep 10 minCook 30 minServes 4 1 aubergineVegetable oil¾ tsp ground turmericSalt270g haddock fillets150g mung dal150g brown onions, peeled and diced25g fresh ginger, peeled and finely chopped 1 tsp ground cumin1 tsp ground coriander275g basmati rice100g frozen peas50g unsalted butter75g golden raisins …

Grand National runners, riders, favourites & odds for 2024: Full horse list

Corach Rambler, the winner of last year’s Grand National, has been confirmed among the entries for this year’s race, along with 93 other horses. The deadline for trainers to enter their horses was February 6. The next staging post is February 20, when the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) will announce the weights that each horse will be required to carry in the race itself, which is on April 13.  Many trainers will withdraw their horses from contention when these weights are announced. The final selection of 34 horses will be made 48 hours before the Grand National itself.  Of the 94 entries, 61 are Irish-trained, which beats the previous best of 54, set last year when Ireland provided 25 of the 39 runners on the day. High-flying Iraq are not favourites for Asian Cup, says coach Casas

High-flying Iraq are not favourites for Asian Cup, says coach Casas

DOHA : Iraq won all their group games as they advanced to the Asian Cup knockout stage but coach Jesus Casas tempered expectations on Sunday by saying his team were not favourites for the title. Iraq were one of three teams to finish the group stage with maximum points, along with defending champions Qatar and Iran, with Casas’s side delivering the biggest upset of the tournament so far when they beat Asia’s top-ranked side Japan. Iraq play Jordan in the last 16 on Monday and although Casas said his side drew confidence from the memorable victory over Japan, the Spaniard added that there was a long way to go in the tournament. “We aren’t favourites. I repeat, we’re very happy with our tournament until now. The Iraqi people are very proud of the players and their performances,” Casas told reporters. “But tomorrow we have a very hard match against a very good team. In one match, all is possible – one red card, one penalty, one mistake or nerves. So we aren’t favourites for sure. …

Cheltenham Gold Cup runners, riders, favourites & odds for 2024: full horse list

L’Homme Presse is firmly back on track as a potential Cheltenham Gold Cup runner for Venetia Williams after the nine-year-old, having his first start for over a year, beat Protektorat two and a quarter lengths in the Fleur de Lys Chase at Lingfield. Galopin des Champs, the short-priced favourite and last year’s winner, may not have been quaking in his stable at the result but it was a good return for the horse who won the Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase at the festival in 2022. He had not run since unseating Charlie Deutsch when booked for second behind Bravemansgame in the 2022 King George. When is the Cheltenham Gold Cup? The Cheltenham Gold Cup is run on the final day of the four-day Cheltenham Festival.  Source link

England fans descend on Paris with South Africa favourites for semi-final | Rugby World Cup 2023

The Gare du Nord was awash with Red Rose jerseys, home counties accents and hard-headed pessimism throughout Friday, as England fans arrived in their droves for the Rugby World Cup semi-final against South Africa. Around 20,000 of them will be at Saturday evening’s match in Paris, but they come more in hope than expectation. They know that current form, recent history and the bookmakers’ odds all point to the same painful outcome: the world champion Springboks winning, and winning well. Robin Randall, an England fan who runs an electrical contracting company in Nottingham, perhaps summed it up best. “I don’t think England have much of a chance,” he told the Guardian. “It’s just one game, so I suppose anything can happen. But our team is struggling to find its identity, our coach is inexperienced, and we are facing many of the same players that thrashed us 32-12 in the World Cup final four years ago.” It is hard to argue. So far England’s performances under their coach, Steve Borthwick, have been largely lumpen and uninspiring, …
