Top-Performing Employee Tells Boss That Because His Pay Is Below Average His Work Will Be Too

Top-Performing Employee Tells Boss That Because His Pay Is Below Average His Work Will Be Too

Workers are changing how they view employment. No longer are they willing to settle for being underpaid or dissatisfied with their work environment. Employees are demanding fair compensation for the jobs they do and deciding that if one employer won’t give it to them, another will. A man on TikTok is demonstrating how workers are reclaiming their power in the workplace with a video documenting a conversation he had with his boss. The former top-performing employee told his boss his ‘below average’ work is due to his low pay. In 2022, a TikTok user named Kris shared a video he explained was a reenactment of a real conversation he had with his employer about his performance at work after his department head called him to “discuss the difference in your performance between last year and 2020.” RELATED: Boss Accuses Employee Of ‘Quiet Quitting’ For Only Working 40-Hour Weeks & Refusing Overtime On the call, Kris learned that he was the top performer at the company the year prior but had seemingly lost focus and was no longer engaged since then. 5 Work Boundaries Employees Often Have That Bosses Don’t Like

While working for any company, it is always important to lay down some boundaries so they are aware of what they can expect from you as an employee.  Whitney Living, an at-home career strategist, shared a list of her work boundaries in an Instagram post, and her bosses in the past were not particularly fond of them.  “The work boundaries you need to be happy, fulfilled, and feel protected, are unique to you. Your boundaries don’t have to look like anyone else’s,” she wrote.  Here are 5 work boundaries employees often have that many bosses don’t like:  1. ‘I don’t work weekends’  Weekends are a time to unwind and spend with loved ones, especially if you work eight hours for the other five days of the week.  RELATED: Boss Spends The Weekend Continuously Calling & Messaging Employee Who Quit Telling Her She’s ‘Throwing Away’ Her Career  Photo: fizkes / Shutterstock  Living explained that she once landed a job she had been after for three years, but, her boss expected her to work seven days a week, despite the office being closed on the weekends. …

Employers and employees both have part to play in workers’ career health amid industry disruptions: Panellists

Employers and employees both have part to play in workers’ career health amid industry disruptions: Panellists

“ACCELERATED” DISRUPTION In his opening speech before the panel discussion, Dr Tan spoke about how technology-driven disruptions are occurring at an “accelerated” pace. Against this background, it is important for workers to take ownership of their career health. Much like physical health, taking a preventative and proactive approach is always better, he added. “Instead of acting only when things go wrong, we should be constantly actively, engagingly be developing our own career plans to pursue jobs and training opportunities in a focused and intentional manner,” said Dr Tan. At the same time, it is in the interest of employers to support the career health of their workers. “In tight labour markets especially, employers who support the career health of their workers will be better able to retain and attract workers.” Dr Tan also gave updates on some government initiatives to help support workers in maintaining their career health. One example is Polaris, a pilot programme which provides career guidance for employed individuals. Within two months of its launch in November, the programme has been fully …

HR Expert Called Out An Executive’s Return To Office Mandate

HR Expert Called Out An Executive’s Return To Office Mandate

Despite conclusive data that workers hate return-to-office mandates, companies keep implementing them. As one woman shared while attending a recent business conference, the reasons business leaders give for their RTO mandates often make very little sense.  Brittany Pietsch called out an executive’s return to office mandate in a speech at a recent HR conference. Pietsch made international news at the beginning of 2024 when the video she made of her layoff from tech company Cloudflare went massively viral. To many, it seemed to perfectly capture the cold indifference with which most corporations treat their employees today. RELATED: Woman Forced To Go Into The Office To ‘Collaborate’ With Coworkers Realizes She’s The Only One Not Working From Home Her video resonated not just with workers but with many in the HR field, and she was recently invited to speak at Transform, a conference for corporate HR leaders. One speech she saw, from Liz Dente, the Chief People Officer at travel company Priceline, left her slack-jawed.  Dente claimed that return-to-office mandates are necessary because working from home will hobble employees’ careers. Return-to-office mandates have been …

8 Google Employees Invented Modern AI. Here’s the Inside Story

8 Google Employees Invented Modern AI. Here’s the Inside Story

The last two weeks before the deadline were frantic. Though officially some of the team still had desks in Building 1945, they mostly worked in 1965 because it had a better espresso machine in the micro-kitchen. “People weren’t sleeping,” says Gomez, who, as the intern, lived in a constant debugging frenzy and also produced the visualizations and diagrams for the paper. It’s common in such projects to do ablations—taking things out to see whether what remains is enough to get the job done. “There was every possible combination of tricks and modules—which one helps, which doesn’t help. Let’s rip it out. Let’s replace it with this,” Gomez says. “Why is the model behaving in this counterintuitive way? Oh, it’s because we didn’t remember to do the masking properly. Does it work yet? OK, move on to the next. All of these components of what we now call the transformer were the output of this extremely high-paced, iterative trial and error.” The ablations, aided by Shazeer’s implementations, produced “something minimalistic,” Jones says. “Noam is a wizard.” …

Boss Tells Sick Employee To Come In Since He Can’t Cover Their Work

Boss Tells Sick Employee To Come In Since He Can’t Cover Their Work

While many employees have access to sick leave from their jobs, the reality is that it’s not an inherently protected right. For many low-income, part-time, and contract workers, sick time is a luxury that they’re not always entitled to, leaving them vulnerable when they need time away.  One Reddit poster on the “Anti Work” forum shared a conversation with his boss that highlighted this problem.  This boss requested his sick employee come in to help cover his typical workload — ‘You have a lot today.’  After trying to call in sick on a Monday morning, the employee was basically told he had to help cover his route. “I am sicker than yesterday,” the employee wrote. “I need rest.”  Despite requesting the time away, his boss simply said, “Don’t say that. I can’t cover your route.”  Photo: Reddit RELATED: Career Expert Says Managers Sending Emails To Employees After Hours Is As Bad As Showing Up At Their House At 10PM Emphasizing the “size” of his workload for the day, his boss continued to pester him. Leaked SpaceX documents show company forbids employees to sell stock if it deems they’ve misbehaved

Leaked SpaceX documents show company forbids employees to sell stock if it deems they’ve misbehaved

SpaceX requires employees to agree to some unusual terms related to their stock awards, which have a chilling effect on staff, according to sources and internal documents viewed by TechCrunch. That includes a provision that allows SpaceX the right to purchase back vested shares within a six-month period following an employee leaving the company for any reason. SpaceX also gives itself the right to ban past and present employees from participating in tender offers if they are deemed to have committed “an act of dishonesty against the company” or to have violated written company policies, among other reasons. Employees often aren’t aware of the “dishonesty” condition when they initially sign up on the equity compensation management platform, one former employee said. If SpaceX bars an employee from selling stock in the tender offers, the person would have to wait until SpaceX goes public to realize cash from the shares — and it’s unclear when that will happen, if it ever does. SpaceX did not respond to multiple requests for comment. Employees pay taxes on their …

Thank you, NHS England, for offering baby-loss leave. This kindness should be every employee’s right | Kat Brown

Thank you, NHS England, for offering baby-loss leave. This kindness should be every employee’s right | Kat Brown

The news that NHS England will offer paid leave to staff who have a miscarriage in the first 24 weeks of pregnancy, as part of a wider pregnancy and baby loss policy, made me gasp. It is almost startling in both its compassion and the light it shines on the enormous burden that parents thus far have had to carry alone. The birth parent can take 10 days, a partner five. Staff who miscarry after six months can take paid maternity leave. This is a significant amount of time for something that, up until now, people have had to suffer alone. Loss is all around us, often suffered in silence. A friend had a miscarriage last weekend. Another friend recently lost her much longed for twins. Another remembers her losses by lighting a candle and posting a photo of it online, as part of the Wave of Light during baby loss awareness week in October: I had no idea she had gone through that until social media gave her the opportunity to grieve. These are …

FDNY Chief Vows To ‘Hunt Down’ Own Employees Who Booed AG Letitia James

FDNY Chief Vows To ‘Hunt Down’ Own Employees Who Booed AG Letitia James

A New York Fire Department (FDNY)’s top official has vowed to “hunt down” pro-Trump staffers who were caught on video booing New York Attorney General Letitia James during a Thursday ceremony. “BITS is investigating this, so they will figure out who the members are,” FDNY Chief of Department John Hodges warned employees via email, referring to the department’s Bureau of Investigation. “I recommend they come forward. I have been told by the commissioner it will be better for them if they come forward and we don’t have to hunt them down,” the email continues, according to the Daily Caller. “The [deputy chiefs] shall direct the captain of the company to make a list of those who come forward and send it directly to [FDNY operations]. I realize members might not come forward but they should know that there is clear video of the entire incident and they will be contacted by BITS if they don’t,” Hodges wrote. A video posted on X shows a crowd chanting “Trump” during James’ speech. As X user End Wokeness …
