Mariska Hargitay Emmys 2026 Monologue: All Her Best Jokes

Mariska Hargitay Emmys 2026 Monologue: All Her Best Jokes

Mariska Hargitay may have been a first-time host at Emmys 2026, but her opening monologue was steeped in TV history, including the actor’s nearly three-decade run on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and the time she “arrested” fellow nominee Martin Short onscreen. “NBC is celebrating its 100th year,” Hargitay began in her opening act. “And I have been on Law & Order: SVU for all of them.” She then quipped of Law & Order creator Dick Wolf that although “there have been a lot of jokes about his name…. His real name is Richard Penis.” The actor also paid homage to the viral AMC Theatres ad fronted by Nicole Kidman, who interjected from her seat, “That’s my bit, you can’t do that!” when Hargitay began speaking of “dazzling images on the silver screen” and “sound that I can feel.” To that, Hargitay gamely replied, “Zip it, movie lady. It’s TV’s turn tonight.” Hargitay struck an earnest tone for the remainder of her brief remarks, which she began with an elongated musical number, featuring cameos …

Your Emmys 2026 Cheat Sheet (For the Categories Where It’s Actually a Competition)

Your Emmys 2026 Cheat Sheet (For the Categories Where It’s Actually a Competition)

However, the winningest nominee is Billy Crudup of The Morning Show. He’s been nominated for each season he’s played Cory Ellison, initially a TV executive who’s sunk down to beleaguered movie producer by the show’s fourth season; in his previous three nominations, he’s won twice. Meanwhile, The Morning Show itself has seen its fortunes fluctuate wildly: after a third season that was showered with 16 nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series, the one and only nomination the fourth season earned was for Crudup. Giving him the award would really underline that he’s the only good thing about an increasingly bad show. Outstanding Writing For A Comedy Series HBO Max/Everett Collection Hacks, which aired its fifth and final season this spring, is nominated in seven categories and likely to steamroll the competition in many of them, including Outstanding Lead Actress In A Comedy Series: Jean Smart, who leads the show as standup comic Deborah Vance, has been nominated for each of the show’s seasons and has, to date, never lost. If The Comeback could have waited a …

Shailene Woodley, Ernest Harden Jr.

Shailene Woodley, Ernest Harden Jr.

The second night of the Creative Arts Emmys took over downtown Los Angeles on Sunday, with several trophies, including best guest acting in a drama series, handed out over the course of the night. Shailene Woodley took home the prize for guest actress in a drama series early in the evening for her role in Paradise. The actress’ win officially earned the show its first Emmy Award. It’s up for several awards at the Sept. 14 Primetime Emmys ceremony, including Sterling K. Brown for lead actor in a drama series, Julianne Nicholson for supporting actress in a drama series and best drama series. The actress, who took the stage in a white mini-dress, immediately called out to her mother in the crowd, saying how “cool” it was that she’d won. Woodley told the crowd how grateful she is to be able to do art for a living. “Thank god for artists,” she said to wrap up her brief speech. “I’m just a big Dan Fogelman fan and a big Sterling [K. Brown] fan,” she told …

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II on Wonder Man’s Cancellation

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II on Wonder Man’s Cancellation

In July, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II was on a set, hanging out at craft services, snacking on some cranberry applesauce, when he got a text message from his publicist: “Congratulations on your second Emmy nomination.” Abdul-Mateen was shocked. Though his show Wonder Man was well reviewed, it wasn’t exactly considered an Emmy frontrunner. And so Abdul-Mateen hadn’t even been aware that nominations were happening that day. “It wasn’t on my radar,” he tells Little Gold Men. “I wasn’t checking in the same way that I was the first time, and that has really allowed me to have a beautiful experience with this whole thing, because I experienced it as a gift.” On the Disney+ Marvel show, Abdul-Mateen played Simon Williams, an aspiring actor who desperately wants to star in a remake of the film Wonder Man. He also happens to have superpowers, which he has to keep under wraps if he wants to work as an actor. The part meant a lot to Abdul-Mateen. “I did that job for all of the right reasons, the reasons …

The Pitt’s Brittany Allen On Submitting Herself For The Emmys

The Pitt’s Brittany Allen On Submitting Herself For The Emmys

As the second season of The Pitt began airing, Brittany Allen began seeing a passionate fan reaction to her character, Roxie Hamler, a terminally ill cancer patient, and saw her name pop up on a number of early Emmys predictions lists.  But despite that early buzz, HBO did not submit Allen for Emmys contention, leading the actress to self-submit herself in the category of outstanding guest actress in a drama series.  “As a working class actor, I have become very familiar with being overlooked in my career, and you toughen your skin, and you just keep your head down, and you keep working, and you keep bettering yourself. And then you reach a point where you go, you know what? I don’t want to get overlooked anymore,” Allen said of the decision.  The move, as well as the social media “For Your Consideration” campaign Allen and her husband embarked on, paid off as she received an Emmy nomination Wednesday for playing Hamler, who has a six-episode arc as she enters the hospital with a broken …

Colbert and Kimmel in Emmys 2026 Variety Series Nominations

Colbert and Kimmel in Emmys 2026 Variety Series Nominations

And the 2026 Emmy nominees for best variety series are… The Daily Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Last Week Tonight With John Oliver, The Late Show With Stephen Colbert and Saturday Night Live! In other words, the five shows The Hollywood Reporter (and probably you) predicted. So the Television Academy voters went chalk, which left out dark-horse candidate Hot Ones — the viral Sean Evans-hosted talk show could have been the first YouTube series ever nominated in the category. Maybe next year. It was not all a yawn, however: the Emmy Awards‘ variety series category itself has a new look this year. For the past decade, the variety series category was the variety series … categories, with scripted and talk separated. Not anymore. The TV Academy’s consolidation, announced in January, followed a years-long decline in the number of series submitted in the best scripted variety series and best variety talk series categories. The current setup — one variety show to rule them all — is how the Emmys operated prior to a 2015 rule change. More or less. …

Emmys 2026: 5 adult animation series to watch

Emmys 2026: 5 adult animation series to watch

If you want personal stories of survival, family trauma or just how to get over a breakup, look no further than adult animation. Even better: Sometimes these shows do all that and are still funny. We’ve rounded up some of this season’s best examples in the genre. ‘Genndy Tartakovsky’s Primal’ (Adult Swim) Set in an anachronistic world where prehumans and dinosaurs fight for survival, “Primal” is told sans dialogue and focuses on a Neanderthal named Spear (whose vocal grunts are provided by actor Aaron LaPlante) and a female Tyrannosaurus rex known as Fang. It’s raw, bloody and, somehow, tear-jerking. “There’s drama, there’s violence, certainly there’s a bit of lightheartedness … we’re not trying to do it like a live-action thing, but we’re trying to get cinematic,” says creator Genndy Tartakovsky. “And because it’s dramatic and there’s no dialogue, we’re leaning into the visual storytelling of it all. This makes it seem a little bit more sophisticated.” Tartakovsky says he even tries to make “the blood spurts look beautiful and designed”: “We’re not doing it for …

Emmys Preview: Will “The Pitt” and “Hacks” Dominate?

Emmys Preview: Will “The Pitt” and “Hacks” Dominate?

It’s a good time to be a fan of TV. We’re getting a flurry of new and returning shows in the coming weeks, so the Little Gold Men team felt it was time to take stock of the TV landscape as Emmy season kicks off, with nominations slated for July 8 (it’s not as far away as you might think!). Just this week, the fifth and final season of Hacks debuts, which is sure to be a front-runner for the comedy categories. The show, which stars Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder, has won 12 Emmys, including four best-actress-in-a-comedy trophies for Smart. The final season sees the pair working together to get Deborah’s career and legacy on the right path. WIth The Studio filming its second season and not eligible this year, there are other returning comedies that feel competitive, like Nobody Wants This, Only Murders in the Building, and Shrinking. But we’re keeping an eye on The Comeback, which has never been nominated for the comedy-series award before. The third season, which follows Lisa Kudrow’s …
