Should Christian men run America? Hell no, say abuse survivors in new documentary

Christa Brown speaks about experiencing abuse, at a rally outside the annual meeting of the Southern Baptist Convention at the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex, June 11, 2019, in Birmingham, Ala. (RNS photo/Butch Dill) (RNS) — Christa Brown has heard former President Donald Trump and his supporters boast of returning Christians to power in the United States — and returning the nation to what they say are its Christian roots. She wants none of it. Brown, a sexual abuse survivor and longtime advocate for abuse reform in the Southern Baptist Convention, has seen what happens when Christian men have power over women in the church. The thought of them having the same power over the country makes her quake. “I have seen what it means for the largest evangelical Protestant faith group in the country, and it is bloody awful,” Brown says in a new short film about the connections between abuse and Christian nationalism called “For Our Daughters.”  “That is not the country I want,” Brown says. “For Our Daughters” film poster. Critics Aren’t Exactly Won Over By Dua Lipa’s New Camden Documentary

In her new Disney+ documentary, Camden, Dua Lipa pays tribute to the London district that she describes as the “beating heart of music”. The chart-topping singer served as executive producer of the four-part docuseries, which dives into the history of a world-famous music scene, looking at how it shaped the life and careers of countless iconic musicians. Directed by Asif Kapadia (Amy), the series features archival footage and celebrity interviewees like Coldplay’s Chris Martin, The Libertines and Yungblud, The musicians “relive their Camden experiences; from their very first gigs to sell-out concerts, the highs and lows of nights out and a youth spent discovering music,” according to a description. But despite the big names attached to it, the series hasn’t gone down too well with critics, after many criticised its historical blindspots and “style over substance” approach. Here’s what the reviews are saying so far… “Less informative than a five-minute Google… Strap in for three hours of annoyingly vague celeb analyses of the London musical hotspot’s cultural significance – featuring no punks and almost no …

‘I feel like my sister died’: inside the shocking TikTok dance cult | Documentary

Since they were young girls, Miranda and Melanie Wilking danced together. The sisters, two years apart, grew up exceptionally close in suburban Detroit, dancing in their basement, in competitions and eventually in pursuit of a professional career. When Miranda graduated high school and moved to Los Angeles to chase the dream, Melanie followed as soon as she could. The duo, who looked nearly identical – long brown hair, bright blue eyes, sharp features, deep tans and lithe physiques – found modest work auditioning together, but greater success online. By this point, in the late 2010s, TikTok was on the rise; short, peppy dance videos to a front-facing camera were the fastest avenue to a following, and thus a living, via sponsorships. Miranda and Melanie started an account together as the Wilking Sisters; by 2020, they had over 3 million followers on the platform. But in 2021, the sisters suddenly stopped posting new videos together, as things fell apart behind the scenes. Through her boyfriend James “BDash” Derrick, a dancer well-known for the LA-based street-style krump, …

David Beckham Documentary Director Was ‘Very Angry’ About This 1 Scene

Of all the career highlights that were celebrated in David Beckham’s hit Netflix documentary, it was that viral “be honest” exchange with wife Victoria that captured viewers’ attention the most. In the now-iconic scene from the hit documentary about David’s life and career, the former England captain could be heard scolding wife Victoria for apparently embellishing the truth about her “working class” roots. “Be honest,” the former Manchester United player told the Spice Girls star, while peering out from behind a door. “I am being honest,” Victoria insisted, before David finally cajoled her into admitting she was driven to school as a child in her dad’s Rolls Royce. David Beckham calls out wife Victoria for saying she grew up ‘working class’ in new Netflix docuseries: “Be honest! What car did your dad drive you to school in?”pic.twitter.com/bVTFv97cGa — Pop Crave (@PopCrave) October 5, 2023 The moment left viewers in stitches, but David has since revealed it didn’t go down too well with the director Fisher Stevens at the time. Kevin Spacey’s Deep History of Alleged Sexual Assault Is Exposed in New Documentary

A new wave of sexual assault accusations against Kevin Spacey has arrived in the form of Spacey Unmasked, a documentary in which 10 men speak publicly about alleged abuse they faced at the hands of the actor. The two-part doc, debuting Monday on Investigation Discovery and streaming on Max following an earlier premiere on the UK’s Channel 4, features revelations from men who were not involved in the London sexual assault trial that saw Spacey acquitted of nine charges last summer. (Spacey pleaded not guilty in the criminal case.) Allegations from men in the documentary, one of whom reportedly refers to the actor as a “soulless monster,” span from Spacey’s high school days to his time on Netflix’s House of Cards, according to the Los Angeles Times. The doc paints a portrait of Spacey as a serial abuser, one who allegedly dangled career advancement and, according to one interview subject, masturbated to a brutal war scene in Steven Spielberg’s Saving Private Ryan. Directed and produced by Katherine Haywood, Unmasked traces the origins of Spacey’s alleged …
