Another British Romance From A Decade Ago Is Soaring Up Netflix's Most-Watched List

We were still getting over the surprise of the 2012 ITV miniseries Leaving having a resurgence on Netflix when we spotted that viewers had also boosted another decade-old British drama onto the platform’s most-watched right now chart. At the time of writing, the third most-watched series on Netflix UK is Love Life, a three-part series that aired on ITV in 2012 just months before Leaving. Love Life centres around Joe and Lucy, a young couple, played by Downton Abbey’s Robert James-Collier and DCI Banks’ Andrea Lowe. A Callum Turner Romance From Over A Decade Ago Is Climbing Netflix's Most-Watched Chart

A Callum Turner Romance From Over A Decade Ago Is Climbing Netflix's Most-Watched Chart

Callum Turner’s screen acting debut has won over a whole new legion of fans after premiering on Netflix. Way back in 2012, the British actor starred opposite the late Helen McCrory in the romantic miniseries Leaving, which originally aired on ITV. In the three-parter, Callum – then aged just 22 – starred as Aaron, a young recent graduate. After attending the wedding of his brother and ex-girlfriend, Aaron has a chance encounter with the venue’s married disillusioned owner (played by the former Peaky Blinders star), with whom he embarks on an impassioned love affair. Helen McCrory and Callum Turner in the 2012 drama Leaving Leaving was met with a positive reception when it first aired 2012, and since being added to Netflix just over a month ago, it’s gained an even bigger audience. In fact, at the time of writing, Leaving is at number four on Netflix UK’s list of most-watched shows right now, behind only The Gentlemen, Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story and the latest season of the influencer-based reality show Outside. Leaving is …

“Strain Is Spreading”: FT Exposes Private Credit Distress At Decade Highs

“Strain Is Spreading”: FT Exposes Private Credit Distress At Decade Highs

Since last fall, we have repeatedly flagged the private credit sector’s growing vulnerabilities. Earlier coverage detailed how the asset class ballooned into a $2-3 trillion opaque market after banks retreated from riskier lending, only to face a wave of high-profile defaults (First Brands, Tricolor), surging redemptions that forced gates at major vehicles, rising PIK usage, and AI-related risks to software-heavy portfolios. In February, the red flag got about as red as it gets… But, as a wave of private-credit providers unleashed their PR teams – and the story slipped off the lips of the TV talking-heads – it remains top of mind for traders, as we most recently noted: Which leads us to a new story this morning from The Financial Times which underscores that the pressure is no longer contained. “Strain is spreading across private credit portfolios, with some of the largest funds taking writedowns and warning about problem loans as the industry faces its biggest challenge in almost a decade,” the FT reports. An analysis of Solve data shows that the value of …

People Who Go To Concerts Live Almost A Decade Longer Than Average

People Who Go To Concerts Live Almost A Decade Longer Than Average

If you haven’t been to a concert, you definitely should. Concerts give you a rush of energy and excitement you can only get from that experience. They also tend to bring people together and create a sense of unity and happiness. But there’s more. According to a 2018 study, the more you go to concerts, the longer you’ll live. No, seriously, the research by O2, a company that owns some of the biggest music venues in the U.K., found that if you regularly attend concerts, you will have a longer lifespan. When you think about it, it doesn’t sound so far-fetched. Think about festivals like Coachella. They’ve been going on for years, and they have people who attend consistently and prepare for the festival months in advance, exercising and eating right so they look great in their festival outfits. These concerts usually take place in the spring or summer when it’s super hot, so people are sweating while dancing and running around, burning calories, and releasing endorphins. According to a study, people who go to concerts …

Secondary pupil numbers fall for first time in a decade

Secondary pupil numbers fall for first time in a decade

The number of secondary school pupils has begun to fall for the first time in a decade, as a population bulge caused by a baby boom in the 2000s makes its way out of the school system. Overall pupil numbers first started falling last year following several years of drops at primary level. The total number of pupils across all schools declined by almost double the amount this year. The DfE initially expected secondary school numbers to peak in 2027 and then gradually fall. But statistics from last July suggested that the secondary school population “is likely to have plateaued between 2024 and 2025” instead. The latest figures show that there were 3,659,508 secondary pupils in state schools in January 2026, down by almost 12,000. The data was published as part of the DfE’s annual schools, pupils and their characteristics dataset. Here are more of the key findings. 1. Primary pupil numbers keep falling The number of primary school pupils has been on a downward trend since 2019, as the demographic shift moved through the …

Hurricane season begins, with first below-average forecast in a decade

Hurricane season begins, with first below-average forecast in a decade

Hurricane season in the Atlantic kicked off Monday, and, for the first time in more than a decade, forecasters expect it to be relatively slow. Subscribe to read this story ad-free Get unlimited access to ad-free articles and exclusive content. The below-average forecast is driven by the expectation that a strong El Niño pattern will develop, which is associated with less hurricane formation in the Atlantic. The opposite is true in the Pacific, however, which should have an active season. Most hurricanes that make landfall in the U.S. form in the Atlantic, where forecasters at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration predict the year will have just three to six hurricanes (storms are considered hurricanes once winds reach 74 mph) and between eight and 14 named tropical storms. The forecast does not predict whether storms will make landfall, however. “It just takes one,” Ken Graham, director of the National Weather Service, said at a news conference last month about the agency’s predictions. He noted that one of the costliest hurricanes of all time, Andrew in …

‘It took over a decade for me to be diagnosed with PCOS – women deserve better’

‘It took over a decade for me to be diagnosed with PCOS – women deserve better’

I first went to the doctor about my heavy periods when I was 16. The pain was so bad that it made me throw up. For years, I was in and out of doctors’ appointments, trying to get help for the same issue. It took until 2020 – when I was 28 – for me to be diagnosed with PCOS. PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) is a hormone imbalance that affects ovaries, periods and fertility in about one in 10 women in the UK. The condition is associated with pregnancy complications, a higher risk of heart disease, and a general decreased quality of life. Yet, it’s estimated by the World Health Organisation that up to 70 per cent of women who have it worldwide remain undiagnosed. I’d never even heard of PCOS until I found out I had it. The doctor diagnosed me, handed me a prescription for the contraceptive pill and sent me on my way. I remember leaving thinking that I had this terrible, scary condition and that I’d never have a baby. I …

Pixar’s new movie earns their best Rotten Tomatoes score in almost a decade

The latest Pixar film, Hoppers, is earning rave reviews from critics. The animated original, which arrives in theaters March 6, follows 19-year-old environmentalist Mabel who “hops” into the mind of a beaver before attempting to help a colony save their habitat in a plot that has drawn comparisons to Avatar. The film, which features a cast of voice actors including Piper Curda, Bobby Moynihan, Dave Franco, Jon Hamm and Meryl Streep, has earned a near-perfect score on review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, currently sitting at 97 percent. Although that score may fluctuate as more reviews come in, it currently represents the best rating for a Pixar film in almost a decade since 2017’s Coco. The first two Toy Story films both have a 100 percent rating on the site, while Toy Story 3, Finding Nemo, Inside Out and Up all scored 98 percent. Pixar’s ‘Hoppers’ has a near-perfect Rotten Tomatoes score (Pixar) It is the first of two Pixar films slated to be released this year, with Toy Story 5 set to follow in June. …

‘My painful and irregular periods were dismissed for a decade before PCOS diagnosis’

‘My painful and irregular periods were dismissed for a decade before PCOS diagnosis’

A woman who endured a decade of debilitating menstrual pain and irregular periods has revealed how doctors repeatedly dismissed her symptoms before she was finally diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Olivia Ferro, 26, from Chicago, United States of America, began experiencing severe stomach pains around her periods at age 14. Her concerns were initially brushed off as “hormone changes” by medical professionals. However, at 15, a burst ovarian cyst necessitated an emergency appendectomy. Despite this, Ms Ferro continued to suffer from chronic pelvic pain and bloating, leading to her being prescribed birth control at 15 in an attempt to alleviate her symptoms. After moving to London in 2024 she launched a women’s health company focusing on GLP-1 medication with her sister, Chloe. open image in gallery Olivia and her sister, Chloe (Collect/PA Real Life) At the time, her periods were even more irregular, and she had private tests in the UK, and was finally diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) – which explained her symptoms. After being prescribed GLP-1 treatment in 2025, she said …

Calder Sculpture in D.C. to Be Restored a Decade After Dismantling

Calder Sculpture in D.C. to Be Restored a Decade After Dismantling

A partially dismantled sculpture by Alexander Calder in Washington, D.C. is, at long last, in the process of being restored, according to Roll Call, a publication that focuses on Capitol Hill-based news. The sculpture in question, Mountains and Clouds, fills the 90-foot-high, skylit atrium of the Hill’s Hart Senate Office Building, which was constructed in the 1970s and first occupied in 1982. Calder’s proposal was chosen from a group of five sculptors who were tasked with designing “a work that would harmonize with the atrium’s surrounding white marble architecture and yet stand apart from the cluttering distraction of adjacent doors, windows, and balconies,” according to the Senate website.  Source link
