Why ‘admin dates’ are becoming the latest way to spend time with friends

Why ‘admin dates’ are becoming the latest way to spend time with friends

A new social trend is transforming mundane life tasks into opportunities for connection, as friends, couples, and roommates increasingly gather for what are being dubbed “admin dates.” These low-pressure gatherings, often held in coffee shops, accommodating bars, or private homes, aim to convert tedious, procrastination-inducing adult responsibilities into productive, shared experiences. The concept marries the satisfaction of tackling personal to-do lists with the vital work of nurturing relationships. Thema Bryant, a psychology professor at Pepperdine University and past president of the American Psychological Association, highlights the dual benefit. “You can have both — getting things done and connecting with people,” she explains. Bryant draws a parallel to group exercise, noting, “In the same way, admin dates can help with accountability, motivation and connection.” Tackling a to-do list alongside others is an activity that combines the satisfaction of tending to chores with nurturing relationships (Getty Images) Beyond casual social circles, romantic or business partners looking to align on shared goals, and club members or volunteers collaborating on projects, may also find these dates beneficial. However, experts …

What 53 first dates taught me about finding love again

What 53 first dates taught me about finding love again

Three years after my second divorce, with the help of a dating app, I went on 53 first dates in one summer. Fifty-three times, I put on my first-date uniform (nice but not trying too hard), flat-ironed my hair and texted my date itinerary to my friend Karen to make it easier for the FBI to track my whereabouts just in case this was the internet date that finally went wrong. I had a system. The system involved a spreadsheet. I kept track of what I wore and what stories we shared to avoid repeating myself in case there was a second or third date. There were exploratory follow-up dates, but it usually took only one to know. The coffees and lunches and dinners of that season flicker in my mind like a rom-com video montage. There were some average dates, plenty of nice-guy, zero-chemistry dates, but a few stood out. Here are the notables. There was the extremely tall, minor league baseball player I met at BJ’s in Burbank. He said no more than …

Noel Gallagher ‘smitten’ as he ‘dates woman more than half his age’

Noel Gallagher is said to be dating a woman more than half his age. The Oasis rocker, 58, was spotted on a night out in London with new partner Nina Johnson, 28, as the Oasis songwriter continues a high‑profile year that has already seen the band’s reunion tour dominate headlines. The pair were seen leaving The Hart gastropub in Marylebone, West London, on Thursday (25.05.26) night after spending several hours together, with pictures of the pair together published by The Sun on Sunday. (24.05.26) It comes after it emerged in March Noel had split from former girlfriend Sally Mash, a private members’ club boss. Noel and Nina, who works for an events company, were photographed smiling before getting into a waiting car. An onlooker told The Sun: “They were laughing and joking, but keeping a slight distance so they did not look like a couple. However, there was no mistaking the spark between them and they were clearly together. They had been engrossed in each other’s company inside and spent hours together, just the two …
