BP tells property owners left in the dark by Elon Musk firing Tesla charging team to call them

[ad_1] BP pulse, the fossil fuel giant’s EV charging division, is asking property owners left in the dark by Elon Musk firing Tesla’s charging team to give them a call as it plans to scoop up some of the sites. Last week, Elon Musk fired Tesla’s entire charging team to make a statement against the head of the team who was pushing back against layoffs. We reported that the move resulted in Tesla backing out of leases on planned Supercharger stations and a lot of confusion amongst its partners in ongoing projects. While this undoubtedly will result in Tesla’s slowing down its charging station deployment, it is an opportunity for other companies. Sujay Sharma, chief executive officer of bp pulse Americas, said in an interview with Bloomberg that site owners that were working with Tesla before should come: “If there are stranded real estate partners who are looking for someone to call, they should feel free to pick up the phone and call me or look me up on LinkedIn.” BP is also looking to …

Invisible ‘dark radiation’ may explain a big problem with dark energy

[ad_1] A slice through the largest 3D map of our universe to date laire Lamman/DESI collaboration There are hints that the universe may be behaving unexpectedly, and astrophysicists are racing to explain why. Their ideas to account for the surprising result include allowing dark matter and dark energy to interact, and arguing for the existence of strange “dark radiation” that is similar in nature to regular light but invisible. In April, researchers using the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) in Arizona released the biggest 3D map of the universe ever created, and it hinted… [ad_2] Source link

WhatsApp’s latest update streamlines navigation and adds a ‘darker dark mode’

[ad_1] WhatsApp is updating its mobile apps for a fresh and more streamlined look, while also introducing a new “darker dark mode,” the company announced on Thursday. The messaging app says that over the years, it has primarily focused on adding utility to the app and that while the product continues to grow, its design needs to evolve as well.  The messaging app is introducing a new color palette after considering over 35 different colors. WhatsApp focused on deeper tones to reduce eye strain in low-light situations. The app’s dark mode, a popular option for many people, is now one shade darker to make it easier to read messages. Image Credits: WhatsApp WhatsApp is adding a native bottom navigation bar on Android to make it easier for users to find what they’re looking for quickly. The new navigation bar, which has been available on iOS for quite some time now, lets you quickly look at your chats, updates, communities, and calls.  As for iOS users, WhatsApp is making it easier to send photos and videos …

Watch: Billionaire Real Estate Investor Expects ‘One Or Two’ Bank Failures A Week, UK Economist Says “Entering A New Dark Age”

[ad_1] Billionaire Barry Sternlicht, Founder, Chairman and CEO of Starwood Capital Group has issued an ominous warning about America’s regional banks, which he says will fail at a rate of ‘one or two’ per week. Speaking with CNBC on Tuesday, Sternlicht says he thinks that primary real estate lenders – community and regional banks – are about to get whacked. “You’re going to see a regional bank fail every day, or not — every week, maybe two a week,” he said, adding that Fed Chair Jerome Powell’s ongoing rate hikes will continue to have consequences for the real estate sector. “He’s got a hard task with a blunt tool, and the consequence is the real estate markets are taking it on the chin because rates rose so fast. We could have handled this, but we couldn’t handle it this fast,” he said. “The 1.9 trillion of real estate loans, that’s a fragile animal right now.” Watch: As Schiff Gold notes, the fed must cut to avoid a banking crisis. Most at-risk firms are smaller banks …

Is dark matter’s main rival theory dead? There’s bad news from the Cassini spacecraft and other recent tests

Is dark matter’s main rival theory dead? There’s bad news from the Cassini spacecraft and other recent tests

[ad_1] One of the biggest mysteries in astrophysics today is that the forces in galaxies do not seem to add up. Galaxies rotate much faster than predicted by applying Newton’s law of gravity to their visible matter, despite those laws working well everywhere in the Solar System. To prevent galaxies from flying apart, some additional gravity is needed. This is why the idea of an invisible substance called dark matter was first proposed. But nobody has ever seen the stuff. And there are no particles in the hugely successful Standard Model of particle physics that could be the dark matter – it must be something quite exotic. This has led to the rival idea that the galactic discrepancies are caused instead by a breakdown of Newton’s laws. The most successful such idea is known as Milgromian dynamics or Mond, proposed by Israeli physicist Mordehai Milgrom in 1982. But our recent research shows this theory is in trouble. The main postulate of Mond is that gravity starts behaving differently to what Newton expected when it becomes …

Knocked Loose: You Won’t Go Before You’re Supposed To review – hardcore punk’s dark stars go supermassive | Music

[ad_1] The previous release from Kentucky metalcore quintet Knocked Loose was 2021’s A Tear in the Fabric of Life, a six-song horror story about a car crash that kills the driver’s partner, sending the driver increasingly mad with grief to the point where they dig up the corpse, have sex with it and then kill themselves to be permanently alongside their former lover. If anything, the follow-up is heavier. A bright node in today’s wonderfully diffuse hardcore punk scene, Knocked Loose formed in 2013 and, via viral shows at US festivals such as Coachella and Bonnaroo that respectively drew kale-enamoured influencers and larky stoners into their circle pits, have built a sizeable buzz. This third album is the glorious sound of a band duly cutting the catapult’s cord and launching themselves into a different league. Onward from the blast beat and lung-emptying roar that kicks off opener Thirst, You Won’t Go Before You’re Supposed To brings together some of the densest elements in music (high-speed kick drums, distorted guitars, glottal screaming) and – in a …

Al Jazeera shutdown in Israel spells ‘dark day for democracy,’ say media groups

[ad_1] washington —  Israel’s decision to shut down Al Jazeera in the country puts audiences at risk of missing out on news and may herald a concerning turn for the future of free expression, analysts say. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday that his government had unanimously decided to shut down the Qatari-owned news outlet over national security concerns. The channel went off air in Israel shortly after the announcement, and the outlet’s websites have also been blocked. “The government headed by me unanimously decided: the incitement channel Al Jazeera will be closed in Israel,” Netanyahu said in a Sunday statement on X. Al Jazeera’s main office in west Jerusalem and its office in east Jerusalem were closed and equipment confiscated. According to Reuters, the Israeli satellite service Yes displayed a message that read: “In accordance with the government decision, the Al Jazeera station’s broadcasts have been stopped in Israel.” Al Jazeera Managing Editor Mohamed Moawad described the action as “oppressive.” “This is a way of delegitimizing our coverage,” Moawad told VOA from Doha. …

New psychology research sheds light on the dark side of “wine mom” culture

New psychology research sheds light on the dark side of “wine mom” culture

[ad_1] Recent research has illuminated how the “wine mom” phenomenon, prevalent on social media and television, influences mothers’ attitudes towards alcohol. This study found that the portrayal of mothers consuming alcohol as a stress-relief mechanism on platforms like Instagram and Facebook could encourage risky drinking behaviors by shaping social norms around alcohol consumption among mothers. The findings have been published in the journal Psychology of Popular Media. The “wine mom” phenomenon promotes the idea that alcohol is a necessary coping tool for motherhood’s challenges, often via humorous memes, hashtags like #winemom, or groups like “Mommy Drinks Wine and Swears.” The researchers were concerned that this social media discourse could adversely affect health outcomes, as increased alcohol consumption heightens the risk of developing physical and mental health disorders. “As a mother, I frequently see memes and discourse on social media about the need to drink alcohol to survive the challenges of motherhood. The messages often uses humor. As a scholar, I was curious about the effects of seeing this type of ‘wine mom’ messaging and I …

Frock horror! In these dark times, let us be grateful for the ludicrous spectacle of the Met Gala | Marina Hyde

[ad_1] Tuesday is officially the morning after the Met Gala of the night before, when we civilians get to press our noses up against the glass of our phone screens and pass unsparing judgment on dresses whose trains alone cost more than HS2. If you haven’t sat in mismatched pyjamas huffing toast while remarking what an unacceptable misstep Lana Del Rey’s mosquito net was, and how Chanel seems to be going tits up, then you have simply failed to capitalise on the digital banquet spread out for you. These are dark times, and nothing but … gratitude, I think? … should be shown for film director Taika Waititi’s decision to come dressed as a brown pleather three-piece suite, while his wife, Rita Ora, presented as the ribbon curtain tacked over their back door to keep the flies off it. Despite – and indeed because of – its best efforts not to be, the Met Gala often feels like a spectacle staged for the tricoteuses camping out round the bottom of the guillotine. This is an …

‘Large volume’ of data stolen from NHS Dumfries and Galloway published on dark web | UK News

[ad_1] A ransomware group has carried out its threat against a Scottish health board and published a “large volume” of stolen data on the dark web. NHS Dumfries and Galloway was the subject of a cyber attack in March and confirmed hackers were able to access a “significant quantity of data”, including patient and staff-identifiable information. The cyber criminals later released a “proof pack” – which included confidential information on a small number of patients – and warned more would follow. In an update on Monday, the health board confirmed a “large volume of data” had been published. Julie White, chief executive of NHS Dumfries and Galloway, branded it an “utterly abhorrent criminal act”. “We should not be surprised at this outcome, as this is in line with the way these criminal groups operate,” she said. “Work is beginning to take place with partner agencies to assess the data which has been published.” The health board is working with Police Scotland, the National Cyber Security Centre and the Scottish government in response to the situation. …
