Stephen Colbert Aspires to Return to Acting, Cites Dream Role

Stephen Colbert closed out Los Angeles’ annual PaleyFest TV festival on Sunday afternoon, as he sat down for a conversation with comedian Ben Schwartz about his career and time at The Late Show desk. During the wide-ranging chat inside the Dolby Theatre — which spanned from Colbert’s start in Chicago’s improv scene to his stint as a Sunday school teacher and his love of fantasy films — Schwartz asked the host if he would ever want to return to acting, which he went to school for. “I was purely acting up until I had The Late Show,” Colbert recalled, as he had been in character on The Colbert Report and The Daily Show. “One of the weirdest things about taking the job is my manager, James “Babydoll” Dixon, when he said, ‘Hey, it’s you.’ And I went, ‘Me?’ And he said, ‘Yeah, do you want to do it?’ And I’m like, ‘James, I’m an actor.’ Like, if I do the show, it’s the first time in my life I wasn’t inhabiting a character all the …

JImmy Kimmel, Stephen Colbert Respond to New Trump Oscars Criticism

Former President Donald Trump was roundly mocked on late-night television for an error-laden social media post in which he confused Jimmy Kimmel and Al Pacino as the presenter of this year’s best picture Oscar. On Wednesday, the presumptive Republican nominee for president drew some attention away from his hush money trial, which is now in the jury selection process in Manhattan, with a post on his Truth Social platform in which he reignited a feud with Kimmel, who hosted the Oscar ceremony on March 10, more than five weeks ago.  In part, Trump posted: “Stupid Jimmy Kimmel, who still hasn’t recovered from his horrendous performance and big ratings drop as Host of The Academy Awards, especially when he showed he suffered from TDS, commonly known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, to the entire World by reading on air my TRUTH about how bad a job he was doing that night, right before he stumbled through announcing the biggest award of all, ‘Picture of the Year.’” Trump’s post was full of multiple factual errors, including the confusion of …

Colbert addressed Trump’s criticism of Kimmel on Wednesday night’s instalment ofThe Late Show, and fiercely told the former president to leave Kimmel alone. “You keep my friend Jimmy Kimmel’s name out of your weird little wet mouth, OK?” Colbert said sternly. Colbert continued: “I’m mad. Jimmy Kimmel is my podcast brother from Strike Force Five. And I have vowed to defend him until my death or until the next ad for Mint Mobile.” “And for the record, sir, Jimmy did an incredible job as host. Oscar viewership was up four per cent. That’s right. This year, four more people watched.” The CBS late-night show host joked that Trump was “staying laser-focused on the issues that voters care most about”. “That’s right, in the middle of a presidential campaign and countless federal …

Donald Trump’s Courtroom Nap Awakens Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert

Donald Trump’s Courtroom Nap Awakens Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert

The moment that the world learned Donald Trump had an impromptu snooze on the first day of his hush money trial, late-night TV writers everywhere rubbed their hands together in glee. “After years of anticipation, the first criminal trial of a former president has begun,” Jon Stewart began on Monday’s episode of The Daily Show. “And by all accounts, it is absolutely riveting.” He went on to share a clip of New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman telling CNN’s Jake Tapper about the courtroom nap, which Trump’s campaign has naturally denied ever happened. (The incident itself could not be caught on camera, as those weren’t permitted in the courtroom.) “Trump appears to be sleeping. His head keeps dropping down and his mouth goes slack,” Tapper recounted, imploring Haberman to “tell us about that.” She replied, “Well, Jake, he appeared to be asleep.” “Hey, Jake, what part of head down, eyes closed, drool coming out of his mouth do you not fucking get over here?” teased Stewart. “Imagine committing so many crimes, you get bored at …

For free real time breaking news alerts sent straight to your inbox sign up to our breaking news emails Sign up to our free breaking news emails Stephen Colbert grew emotional and seemed unable to speak following the death of his longtime Late Show executive assistant Amy Cole. She was 53. At the end of Monday (1 April) night’s show a title card was displayed showing a photograph of Cole alongside the caption: “Dedicated to our dear friend Amy Cole, 1970-2024.” LateNighter reports that audience members who attended the taping said the upbeat show took a serious turn at the end of the night when Colbert asked them to hold their applause. The host, 59, looked lost for words before eventually saying a simple: “Good night.” Studio audience members, who were not shown the title card, were left confused as to why Colbert was visibly upset as he left the stage in silence Several Late Show with Stephen Colbert writers and staff members have paid tribute to Cole on social media, with some making reference …

Improve information retrieval with CoLBERT

Improve information retrieval with CoLBERT

When you search for something online, do you often find that the results don’t match what you’re looking for? This happens because of problems with the way most search and information retrieval systems work. They take long pieces of text and compress them into a short code, like squeezing a big sponge into a small box. When they do this, some important details can get lost. These systems have a hard time understanding the full meaning and context of the words we use. So when you search, the results might not reflect what you really want to find or show the most relevant information. It’s like asking a friend to find a specific book on a messy shelf – without understanding what the book is about, they might grab the wrong one that just looks similar from the outside. There’s a new way to search for information called CoLBERT. It’s different from the old way because it doesn’t try to squeeze everything into one small code. Instead, it breaks down what you’re looking for and …

When Stephen Colbert and Paul Simon talked about faith

When Stephen Colbert and Paul Simon talked about faith

(RNS) — It had been a long time since I had watched “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” When I finally got around to revisiting the show, I found myself instantly rewarded. The show in question was his recent interview with singer-songwriter Paul Simon, who is now 82 years old.  Toward the end of that conversation, Paul and Stephen focused on his latest (and perhaps, last) album, “Seven Psalms.” He revealed that the album was the result of a dream, in which he heard a voice telling him to create this prayerful work. The album is not only beautiful in a musical sense. In it, Simon creates an entirely new religious language. “The Lord is my engineer; The Lord is my record producer; The Lord is the music I hear… the Lord is the earth I ride on; the Lord is the face in the atmosphere, the path I slip and slide on the Lord is a virgin forest; the Lord is the train I ride on; the Lord is the coast, and the coast …

Rose Hanbury Sends Legal Notice to Stephen Colbert After His Prince William Affair Joke

Rose Hanbury Sends Legal Notice to Stephen Colbert After His Prince William Affair Joke

She may be an English Rose, but Rose Hanbury, the Marchioness of Cholmondeley, is no wilting flower. The noblewoman sent a legal notice to late-night host Stephen Colbert after he made on-air quips earlier this month about a rumored affair between Hanbury and Prince William, linking it to the widespread speculation around the whereabouts of William’s wife, Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales. The comments, as well as the news of Hanbury’s legal threat, came before the Friday revelation that Kate has been diagnosed with cancer and is receiving treatment. During the episode of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert that aired on March 12, Colbert joked about past rumors of an affair between William and Hanbury, who has been married since June 2009 and is the mother of three children. “The kingdom has been all aflutter by the seeming disappearance of Kate Middleton. Well, now internet sleuths are guessing that Kate’s absence may be related to her husband and the future king of England, William, having an affair,” Colbert said. “So I think we …

CBS demand about Kristen Stewart ignored by Late Show host Stephen Colbert: ‘I don’t understand’

For free real time breaking news alerts sent straight to your inbox sign up to our breaking news emails Sign up to our free breaking news emails Stephen Colbert has defied a demand made by CBS – the network that airs his show – about his latest celebrity guest, Kristen Stewart. Hollywood star Stewart appeared on the series on Tuesday (12 March) to discuss her role in new thriller Love Lies Bleeding, the latest film from Saint Maud director Rose Glass. While on the show, discussion turned to Stewart’s controversial Rolling Stone cover, which led to criticism from more conservative commentators upon its release earlier this year. Stewart appears on the front of the March edition of the US music and culture publication, posing in a weightlifting room with her hand down a jockstrap she’s wearing. Launching into a conversation about the critical reaction, Colbert highlighted that CBS, the network that airs Late Show with Stephen Colbert, asked him not to show the magazine cover. “Now before I show this cover, I just want you …
