Just look at the flagship Momentum True Wireless 5, which took more than two years to hit store shelves. So, it’s no surprise that the legacy audio brand waited this long to create its first-ever open earbuds. So, the Sennheiser Accentum Clip are here, and they join an already crowded market. A direct competitor to market favorites such as the Shokz OpenDots series and the upscale Bose Ultra Open Earbuds, these clip-on buds not only live up to the Accentum line’s critically acclaimed reputation – they’re easily the best-sounding open earbuds money can buy. There’s just one problem: Are you willing to cross the border to own a pair? That’s right — Sennheiser has decided not to release these excellent open earbuds to U.S. shoppers. Did You Catch All the Sorkinisms in The Social Reckoning?

Did You Catch All the Sorkinisms in The Social Reckoning?

Commentators had already called out Sorkin’s trouble writing female characters before he joked about it in a 2011 episode of 30 Rock, mansplaining writing to Tina Fey’s Liz Lemon in a cameo as himself. But acknowledging the issue did not cure Sorkin of this deficiency. In The Social Reckoning’s prologue, the hokey “White Girl Wasted,” we meet Kaylee (Portia Doubleday), who’s standing next to an overheated car, telling the cops she doesn’t need their help. Things escalate until Kaylee starts shooting a phone video bigotedly confronting them for “coming at” her and is finally arrested when she threatens to kill one of their colleagues. We later find out from Facebook staffer Frances Haugen (Mikey Madison) that Kaylee volunteered for progressive causes and supported a Democratic nominee against whom she came to believe the DNC rigged the process. This candidate isn’t named, but the implication seems to be that her preferred non-establishment candidate was Bernie Sanders (and, based on Sorkin’s 2024 suggestion that Joe Biden drop out of the presidential race to clear the way for …

Romance scammers are getting harder to catch. The consequences are costly.

Romance scammers are getting harder to catch. The consequences are costly.

For people looking for love online, a match with a scammer could cost them their life savings. A congressional investigation, which began in September 2025 and lasted about a year, found that Tinder’s scam detection systems struggled for years to keep fraudulent accounts off the dating app. Parent company Match Group has since moved to address the shortcomings with new verification requirements and upgraded detection technology. Romance scams have become a leading form of financial fraud in the U.S., costing Americans nearly $1.5 billion in reported losses last year, according to the Federal Trade Commission. “There’s a lot of stigma to being a victim to scams,” Sen. Maggie Hassan, D-N.H., who launched the investigation alongside Sen. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., said in an interview last week. “People should understand that really sophisticated people who are doing all the right things are still getting scammed because of the level of technology and resources that these criminal enterprises now do.” Scammers today can realistically pose as representatives from familiar organizations like the local YMCA or a bank, and …

Why Chris Hansen hasn’t seen the new film about ‘To Catch a Predator’

Why Chris Hansen hasn’t seen the new film about ‘To Catch a Predator’

Chris Hansen has not seen “Primetime,” the A24 film in which Robert Pattinson plays him, and he probably won’t anytime soon. He walked out of an Aug. 20 screening arranged for him at the studio’s Manhattan offices after refusing to sign a nondisclosure agreement, which he believed would prevent him from raising any legal objection to the way he is portrayed. But Hansen’s company has purchased preshow advertising in theaters showing “Primetime,” which opens Sept. 25. The spots promote TruBlu, the subscription streaming platform where the former “Dateline NBC” correspondent presents his current sting operations under the title “Takedown.” “It’s a movie that uses my name, image and likeness,” Hansen told The Times in a recent interview. “Why not direct people to what the real Chris Hansen is doing? Here’s where you can see it.” Moviegoers, in other words, will be asked to have a seat twice. The film revisits one of the most provocative and scrutinized franchises in the history of TV news. “To Catch a Predator,” which ran as a periodic “Dateline” investigation …

‘You’ll Never Catch Him!’ | Lucas Adams

‘You’ll Never Catch Him!’ | Lucas Adams

Paul Julian just wanted everyone to get out of the way. Maneuvering down the narrow hallways on the Warner Brothers studio lot while carrying a very long, freshly painted background, the artist (who had worked as a WPA muralist before his animation gig) would emit a car horn–esque “beep-beep” to warn his colleagues of his approach. The Looney Tunes impresario Chuck Jones heard Julian and convinced him to come to the Warner recording studio, where his urgent beeps (Julian always insisted that the spelling ought to be “hmeep-hmeep”) were put on tape. These recordings, sped up, debuted in 1949’s Fast and Furry-ous, the very first Wile E. Coyote and Road Runner cartoon, and have been employed as the Road Runner’s vocalization ever since.  The ad hoc recording of a now inescapable sound (you’re hearing it in your head right now, aren’t you?) was not remarkable in the moment. Michael Maltese, the writer of Fast and Furry-ous, said in an interview long after its release, “It was just another one-shot, just another workaday cartoon.” Now, though, …

Fitbit and Pokemon Made a Fitness Tracker That Might Actually Help Me Catch My Zs

Fitbit and Pokemon Made a Fitness Tracker That Might Actually Help Me Catch My Zs

When Pokemon Sleep was first announced in 2019, I wondered if the company behind one of the most iconic animations was dreaming too big. Getting people out of their houses and onto streets and parks with Pokemon Go was already a huge success. But did people care as much about their sleep hours as they did about their steps? After several delays, Pokemon Sleep finally launched in 2023 to high interest, becoming the most downloaded sleep game app in the world, according to the Japanese news outlet Famitsu. On Thursday, the Pokemon Company is partnering with Google and Fitbit to help people take their sleep even more seriously – while still having fun – with the new $129 special-edition Fitbit Air. It’s a pairing that makes a lot of sense. The minimal design of the Fitbit Air is tailored for extended wear, including for sleep tracking, and Pokemon Sleep gamifies the resting experience so you hopefully rest for longer each night. The stylistic touches will resonate with fans I’ve been wearing the new special-edition Fitbit …

To Catch a Cult Predator: Black Women Beware

To Catch a Cult Predator: Black Women Beware

In the beginning of the grooming process, there is sweetness and light. The groomer wants you, acts like you’re the only one in the room, showers you with adulation, folds you into the embrace of a gushingly warm 24/7 community and immerses you in the seductive quicksand of their budding nation/family/tribe, anchored by the benevolence of a shiny new “god” who becomes mother, father, lover, sister, brother, confessor, judge, jury and executioner all rolled up into one. The cult honeymoon phase is like the waystation before the Sunken Place. Lulling and dreamy as a Lorelei song. Lately, it’s been nearly impossible to watch any streaming platform without stumbling onto a new saga about a heretofore obscure cult. One of the most recent exposés spotlights the downward spiral of the Black-led “Carbon Nation” group, which joins a long line of religious regimes powered by misogynoir (or anti-Black misogyny) and toxic masculinity. As chronicled in a new Hulu series called “The Cult of Natureboy,” Carbon Nation was an Afrocentric back-to-the-land group founded in 2016 by a YouTube …

We need to catch up with the Neanderthals!

We need to catch up with the Neanderthals!

Remember when Neanderthals were slow-moving brutes? I’ve been away from my desk here for a bit, co-writing a book. But I wanted to drop in for a moment to note all the recent research that obliterates the storied intellectual distinction between Neanderthals and the rest of us humans — distinctions that have been very important to some people. Here are a few highlights: ● Remember the famous Neanderthal brain that was supposed to be inferior to the modern one, rendering them the big, dumb brutes of legend? Outcompeted, in a Darwinian struggle for life, by smarter modern humans? From Kiona N. Smith at Ars Technica, we continue to learn, that that is a misleading picture: “because brain size is actually a terrible way to predict cognitive capability. Neanderthals could have been a lot more like us than some previous studies have claimed, which definitely fits what the archaeological record tells us about how they lived. It would also mean that our species probably didn’t out-compete the Neanderthals by being smarter or more adaptable.” (April 28, …

Mountain Dew brings back discontinued flavor — but there’s a catch

Mountain Dew brings back discontinued flavor — but there’s a catch

Mountain Dew is bringing back one of its most popular flavors — but fans will have to buy a variety pack to get their hands on it. After Mountain Dew White Out was discontinued six years ago, the soft drink is returning to store shelves in a patriotic 18-can variety pack that will only be available at Walmart for a limited time. The citrus-flavored soda‚ which was described as having hints of yuzu and lemongrass, was originally released in 2010 as part of a fan-voted campaign before it was abruptly taken off the market in 2019. Now, fans can get the favorite flavor in Walmart’s “America Pack,” which includes six Code Red Mountain Dews, six Voltage Raspberry Mountain Dews and six of the White Outs. The pack costs around $13, according to Walmart’s website. The red, white and blue variety pack is learning into the nostalgic flavors ahead of Memorial Day and Fourth of July celebrations amid America’s 250th anniversary of being a country. After it launched Monday, the pack is expected to be discontinued again …
