Nick Offerman blasts Ben Shapiro over ‘insane’ critique of The Last of Us’ gay storyline

Nick Offerman has finally caught up with Ben Shapiro’s much-ridiculed critique of The Last of Us, more than three years after the right-wing commentator shared his thoughts. Offerman starred opposite The White Lotus breakout Murray Bartlett in a standalone episode of HBO’s critically acclaimed post-apocalyptic drama adaptation released in 2023. The episode, titled “Long, Long Time,” shifts focus from main characters Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) to a tender love story between survivors Bill and Frank. The role won Offerman an Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series, while the episode itself was lauded as one of the greatest in modern television history. Nevertheless, the episode faced a wave of homophobic backlash. Shapiro was among those who criticized the episode’s focus, complaining on his podcast at the time: “The entire episode has no zombies, no real threat, and it is about two gay dudes who meet and have a relationship, in which one grows strawberries for the other, and then they die.” Nick Offerman (right) has addressed Ben Shapiro’s criticism of …

Prominent Latino group blasts proposed Paramount-Warner merger

Prominent Latino group blasts proposed Paramount-Warner merger

A prominent Latino group is raising fresh concerns about Paramount Skydance’s proposed acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, saying the blockbuster deal would crush Latino workers and small businesses that support Hollywood. In an open letter to California Atty. Gen. Rob Bonta, the League of United Latin American Citizens urged the state’s top prosecutor to continue his legal fight to block Paramount’s proposed $111-billion takeover of the media company that owns HBO, CNN, HGTV and the Warner Bros. film and television studios. “No state has more to lose from this disastrous merger … than California,” LULAC National President Roman Palomares and Chief Executive Juan Proaño wrote in the six-page letter sent to Bonta late Sunday. Thousands of jobs would be lost, and Latino voices could be squelched should the deal go through as it is drawn, the LULAC leaders said. “The current form of the consolidation would have a devastating and unacceptable impact on Latinos, including those who reside in the Los Angeles community,” they wrote, noting Latinos make up 40% of the state’s population and …

Hayden Panettiere’s Mom Blasts Gayle King’s Critcism After Star’s Death

Lesley Vogel, Hayden Panettiere’s mom, is slamming Gayle King after the CBS Mornings host criticized her response to her daughter’s death. “I was very, very hurt and deeply disappointed in the lack of professionalism, the lack of compassion in slamming someone who’s lost two children, without even a modicum of consideration,” Vogel said during a recent interview with the Daily Mail regarding King’s comments. “No one reached out to me before,” she added. “It’s shameful. It’s unconscionable to me.” The Hollywood Reporter has reached out to CBS Mornings for comment, but did not hear back at the time of publication. Panettiere, an actress known for her roles in Heroes, Nashville and the Scream franchise, died last Sunday at age 36. Following her death, Vogel spoke to NBC News on Tuesday, where she criticized her daughter’s on-again-off-again boyfriend Brian Hickerson and felt her daughter “lost her way.” “This person in her life that we have been trying to get rid of for quite some time was with her at her death and that was Brian Hickerson,” she said …

Journey star blasts ‘annoying, bitter old man’ Bruce Springsteen

Journey keyboardist Jonathan Cain has criticized Bruce Springsteen for using his platform to share his political views, saying he is tired of entertainers “preaching” their beliefs to fans. The 76-year-old musician, who has frequently spoken about his conservative views and support for President Donald Trump, made the comments during a recent podcast appearance. “I used to be a Democrat back in the old days, but I couldn’t go there anymore, you know? I’m a diehard conservative,” Cain said on an episode of Tom Barnard’s Complete Disaster Network podcast. “And guys like Bruce Springsteen should shut up. You know, really, honestly, shut up, Bruce, you know?” He added that Robert De Niro is another celebrity who he thinks should just “shut up.” “I mean, who cares, guys?” he said. “Do your art. I try to keep politics out of my music.” Journey keyboardist Jonathan Cain has criticized Bruce Springsteen for speaking out about politics (Rhododendrites/Getty Images) Springsteen is one of Donald Trump’s most vocal critics and recently performed in Minneapolis to honor anti-ICE protests (Getty) Springsteen …

The company is building a tiny, autonomous quadcopter drone designed to detect and eliminate the insects from a digitally mapped-out area. Mimicking a bat, the drone uses ultrasonic sonar to identify mosquitoes based on their unique wingbeat frequency. It then locks on the target and barrels toward them at high speed to deal a killing blow. Though the drone relies on modern smartphone tech and software to “see” the world around it, its execution method is decidedly old-fashioned: it simply shreds the mosquitoes into bug bits using its propellers. The 40-gram quadcopter weighs roughly the same as a golf ball. While …

Billy Joel Blasts Unauthorized Biopic as ‘Misguided’

Billy Joel Blasts Unauthorized Biopic as ‘Misguided’

A biopic chronicling the early life of legendary rockstar Billy Joel is in the works, though the piano man himself isn’t affiliated with the project, and he’s calling out the film as “both legally and professionally misguided.” John Ottman, who edited the recently released Michael, is directing Billy & Me, and Adam Ripp is writing the screenplay. For the project, Ottman and Ripp secured the life rights of Billy Joel‘s former manager, Irwin Mazur, as well as Jon Small, a longtime friend of Joel’s. But as a rep for Joel says, the singer has been in touch with the filmmakers for several years to confirm that they do not have his own rights for the picture. “Since 2021, the parties involved have been officially notified that they do not possess Billy Joel’s life rights and will not be able to secure the music rights required for this project,” Joel’s rep said in a statement. “Billy Joel has not authorized or supported this project in any capacity, and any attempt to move forward without it would …
