iOS 17.4’s New Tool Shows if Your iPhone 15’s Battery Health Is Normal

iOS 17.4’s New Tool Shows if Your iPhone 15’s Battery Health Is Normal

With iOS 17.4 Apple just made it easier to track your iPhone 15’s battery life and overall health. The new software update, which is currently in beta, changes up the Battery sub-menu in the Settings app to make it easier to see and understand your battery’s overall health. Previously, across all iPhone 15 models, there was a section named Battery Health & Charging that opened a screen showing your battery’s capacity as a percentage. (Over 80% is considered good.) Now, the newly named Battery Health menu shows whether your battery is normal or not. Read more: Best iPhone To Buy in 2024 If you tap on Battery Health, a sub-menu opens to show your iPhone’s battery cycle count, the manufacture date and date of first use. And speaking of cycle counts, Apple said it retested all iPhone 15 models and that their batteries should remain at 80% or higher capacity for 1,000 charge and drain cycles. Apple estimated older iPhone models still have 80% battery capacity retention after 500 cycles. Obviously, the hardware and batteries across …

OnePlus took a three-year ‘reflective pause’ before increasing its smartwatch battery

OnePlus took a three-year ‘reflective pause’ before increasing its smartwatch battery

It’s 2024. All smartwatches should offer multiple days of battery life, full stop. As things stand now, there’s a jaw-droppingly wide range across the devices. I would go so far as to say that limited battery has been — and continues to be — the single biggest issue with the Apple Watch. The Series 9 is currently rated at 18 hours in standard mode and 36 in Low Power Mode. OnePlus’ upcoming Watch 2, meanwhile, promises a jaw-dropping 100 hours “in full Smart Mode.” This is, of course, exactly the sort of claim it’s best to take with a few grains of salt prior to the wearable’s official unveiling next week at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. I would take that a step further and tell interested parties to wait for the first reviews to trickle in. According to a blog post, the company took a “three-year hiatus and a reflective pause following the OnePlus Watch 1.” Battery is precisely the sort of thing OnePlus needs to lean into. The first-gen product promised up to …

Apple Increases iPhone 15’s Advertised Battery Lifespan

Apple Increases iPhone 15’s Advertised Battery Lifespan

In a support document updated today, Apple says the batteries in the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max are designed to retain 80% of their original capacity at 1,000 complete charge cycles under ideal conditions, which is double the 500 charge cycles it advertises for all earlier iPhone models. Apple told 9to5Mac that iPhone 15 models have a higher advertised battery lifespan as a result of the company making “continued updates to battery components and power management systems over the years.” The report says Apple tested the batteries under “specific circumstances representing common use cases.” This revelation means that it could take longer for the maximum battery capacity of iPhone 15 models to decline to 80% compared to previous iPhone models. However, Apple told 9to5Mac that it is “investigating” the battery lifespan of older iPhone models, so a comparison based on the latest testing parameters remains to be seen. In its support document, Apple says the battery lifespan of any iPhone model ultimately depends on how the device …

iOS 17.4 Lets You See Your iPhone 15 Battery Health at a Glance

iOS 17.4 Lets You See Your iPhone 15 Battery Health at a Glance

With iOS 17.4, Apple is tweaking how battery health is reported to iPhone 15 users, making it easier for them to understand their battery status at a glance. In the Battery section of the Settings app, the Battery Health listing now has a readout such as “Normal” that is accessible without tapping in to the prior “Battery Health & Charging” section. If you tap on the battery health readout on an ‌iPhone 15‌, the battery cycle count, manufacture date, and first use will be listed. This information was previously hidden in the General > About section of the Settings app. The Charging Optimization section continues to provide the same settings. Optimized Battery Charging preserves battery health by learning usage habits and limiting the amount of time that the battery sits at a 100 percent charge. There is also an option to limit charging to 80 percent to further preserve health, and a toggle for turning off optimized charging all together. Note that these changes are limited to the ‌iPhone 15‌, ‌iPhone 15‌ Plus, iPhone 15 …

Battery recycling regulation in 2024 and beyond

Battery recycling regulation in 2024 and beyond

Cirba Solutions considers national battery recycling regulation crucial for the future of the sector and its ability to meet the challenge of advancing technology. The focus on the electric vehicle (EV) movement has helped to bring battery recycling into the mainstream conversation. While the first lead-acid battery was recycled in 1912, today’s lithium-ion battery eclipses other battery chemistries such as nickel-metal hydride or alkaline. Rechargeable batteries have been a catalyst for a technology evolution that has enabled batteries to be reduced in size with a higher energy density that reduces waste through reuse. However, each evolving technology comes with its challenges. Regulating the sector Alternative legislation and battery recycling regulation have been explored to keep pace with the advancement of engineering. Collaborating with government, public, and private sector groups is crucial during the evolution of the growing sectors, including battery recycling and sustainability. One of the more well-known efforts in the battery industry is the Battery Passport in Europe. This global reporting framework governs the rules around measurement, auditing, and reporting of environmental, social and …

In the world of EVs, a significant leap has been made in battery technology, promising an unprecedented boost in energy storage capacities. (CREDIT: Creative Commons) In the rapidly evolving world of electric vehicles (EVs), a significant leap has been made in battery technology, promising an unprecedented boost in energy storage capacities. At a time when the electric vehicle industry is experiencing explosive growth, this discovery couldn’t have been timelier. Researchers from Pohang University of Science & Technology (POSTECH) have unveiled a groundbreaking technique to amplify the energy storage capacity of batteries tenfold. This development not only advances battery technology but could also reshape the entire electric vehicle landscape. Understanding the Anode’s Role in Batteries The essence of how batteries function lies in the anode, a component responsible for storing power during the charging phase and then discharging it when the battery is in use. Currently, graphite is the predominant material used for anodes in the majority of modern lithium batteries. However, there are materials like silicon that inherently possess a far greater energy capacity than …

How Powerful Should Your Home Battery Be?

How Powerful Should Your Home Battery Be?

Home batteries are a lot bigger and more complicated than the small AA batteries you put in your household gadgets. All those numbers on the specification sheet are confusing, and choosing poorly can mean you buy something too weak to run your appliances — or something more expensive and powerful than you need it to be. A battery can help you save money by offsetting high time of use rates, using stored energy from your battery to power your home when electricity rates are their highest. You can also use your battery to tap into a supply of stored energy energy from your solar panels after sunset and have backup energy on-hand in case of a blackout. If you’re shopping for a home battery, consider your battery’s power output.  Can solar panels save you money? Interested in understanding the impact solar can have on your home? Enter some basic information below, and we’ll instantly provide a free estimate of your energy savings. “You will want to size a battery based on the load that it …
