As the sun rose over Southern California’s Big Bear Valley on Monday morning, Shadow the bald eagle and his new companion Kaydee were spotted perched on the top of a roost tree near Shadow’s nest.  Kaydee then visited the nest, with a feather in one of her nostrils. However, the accessory did not appear to bother her, as she got to work rearranging sticks like she and Shadow did over the weekend. Eagles frequently move around sticks to maintain their nests. Afterwards, Kaydee joined Shadow perched on another tree limb, before he flew off. 8-24-2026 In The Neighborhood It is still too early to tell if she will be a new mate for Shadow, following the death of his former partner, Jackie, earlier …

Orange County Water District biologists originally called the eagle KD1 and banded her as part of their work to track the eagles born in California’s Prado Basin. Since being spotted on the Friends of Big Bear Valley (FOBBV) cameras that follow the lives of the area’s bald eagles, she has been referred to as KD1. On Wednesday, FOBBV announced they would now refer to KD1 as Kaydee. “Generally, Friends of Big Bear Valley does not give names to nest visitors unless they have been around long-term…until now,” FOBBV wrote on Instagram. “We have chosen to name KD1 Kaydee, whether or not they decide …

Going bald? There’s a subreddit for that – and it’s weirdly wonderful

Going bald? There’s a subreddit for that – and it’s weirdly wonderful

I was sitting in a cafe a few weeks ago when I overheard a rare bit of sunny talk about advances in medicine and technology when a woman said: “Nobody will be bald in the future.” The way she said it made me think of people in the 1950s imagining the 21st century as a world with flying cars, sassy robot maids and no wars; a world where everybody has hair on their heads is possible. Bald has never exactly been in style, but these days, it feels like going bald is tougher than ever. It can feel lonely watching all those clumps fall out when you’re in the shower. Yes, there have been plenty of advances in hair restoration, and treatments have been proven to help some people avoid getting to the point where they need a doctor to surgically redistribute the follicles from the back to the front of their heads. But it won’t work for everybody, and people will still lose their hair as long as genetics and hormones have a say. …

8 Best Head Shaver for Bald Men in 2026

Best Safety Razor: Leaf Shave “Twig” Single Edge Safety Razor Leaf Shave Twig Single Edge Safety Razor As safety razors go, the Leaf Twig is extremely friendly to first-time users and cartridge converts—which is why I’ve called it the best razor and also managed to convert my brother Sam to using it as a bald-head shaver. The Twig’s single blade allows for an efficient, irritation-free shave, minimizing bumps and ingrown hairs, with an almost identical version—the Thorn—made for the densest, thickest, curliest hair. The short handle makes it relatively easy to maintain control over the task at hand, too, without too much twisting and torquing as you go ’round the globe. Plus, the Twig has some nice design touches: Twisting the bottom of the handle unlocks the old blade, so you don’t have to pry it out with your fingers, and the all-metal body is nicely weighted. Not to mention the blessing of extremely cheap safety razors (versus the price of cartridge replacements.) In the safety razor race, nothing outshines Leaf right now, except maybe …
