Backlash over leaked report card plans

Backlash over leaked report card plans

More from this theme Recent articles Proposals for new Ofsted report cards will be too confusing for parents and could spawn a “whole new host of issues”, leaders say, after leaked plans last week caused widespread kickback. A slide obtained by the Financial Times showed schools could be judged on a sliding, five-point scale from ‘exemplary’ to ‘causing concerns’ across 10 evaluation areas. But the proposals were widely mocked, being dubbed “Ofsted numberwang” and likened to the Nando’s fast-food outlet’s “peri-ometer” for how spicy its chicken is. 10 judgments, 5 ratings The proposal was presented to school leaders last week. Slides showed schools being rated in 10 areas: curriculum, teaching, achievement, leadership, behaviour and values, attendance, preparation for next steps, opportunities to thrive, inclusion and belonging and safeguarding. They would be rated on a five-point scale from ‘exemplary’, ‘strong practice’, ‘secure’, ‘attention needed’, down to ‘causing concern’. In the slide, the ratings were depicted with colour codes ranging from red to purple. Source Financial Times There are conflicting reports about whether Ofsted has settled on …

The 37-year-old actor, who starred in Latin American telenovelas like Lalola and Rosario Tijeras, was traveling with her husband, Fernando Schoenwald, when she decided to unwind by turning the cabin aisle into her personal gym. She performed a full “body pump” workout mid-flight, which didn’t exactly win over her fellow passengers or online spectators. “I’m feeling crazy after nearly 35 hours in the air on planes,” the fitness guru explained, addressing her 9 million Instagram followers in an Instagram Story post. But instead of sticking to light stretches or a casual stroll, de Regil opted for a full-throttle, multistep workout, including running in place and …

Gyeongbokgung Palace was the main royal residence and the seat of government during the Joseon period, from 1392-1910. Kieu Hoa, 37, from Hanoi visited South Korea late in October and posed near Gwanghwamun, the main and largest gate of the palace. After she posted her photos, she received criticism from both South Korea as well as her native country Vietnam, with many questioning whether her behaviour or her clothing were appropriate considering the palace is both a sacred and a cultural institution for Koreans. “The palace is a sacred place in their country, much like our Hue Imperial City. Her behaviour is disgraceful,” said one user. “Rude and offensive. Such acts create a negative …

Backlash, legal threats as inclusion push turns sour

More from this theme Recent articles Schools are setting aside cash for potential legal action, being asked to “make the case” to secure SEND cash and signing up to inclusion charters as cash-strapped councils try to boost inclusion. The government’s key plan to fix the broken SEND system is to make mainstream schools more inclusive. Buckling under huge deficits on their high-needs funding, some councils are already attempting to get their mainstream schools to educate more pupils with complex needs. But plans in some areas have led to huge backlash from heads, with threats of legal action and fears over more cuts by the back door – providing a stark warning sign for future reforms. I was on a train to Cornwall with my two youngsters – eight-year-old Lola and six-year-old Liberty – high above the river crossing the Tamar Bridge and under a glorious blue sky. Liberty struck a model pose, and all seemed fine. But when she saw me poised to publish the video to my Instagram, she demanded I stop. And, in the future, always ask for her permission first. Liberty wasn’t normally so camera-shy, and a few days later it happened again. As I grabbed my phone to snap my children hanging off a tree branch looking like flower fairies, she scowled at me. “You’re not posting it on Instagram, …

Many reacted with shock when the waxwork figure was unveiled on Thursday. The museum’s team met on Friday morning and decided to remove the waxwork of the Irish singer, admitting that it “can do better” and pledging to create a “more accurate representation”.
