Playboi Carti’s New Album ‘Music’ Breaks Spotify Record

Playboi Carti came to play with his new album Music. On Friday, the same day the rapper dropped his long-awaited third studio album, he also broke a Spotify record. The audio streaming giant shared on Saturday that Music became Spotify’s most-streamed album in a single day in 2025 so far. “Carti’s MUSIC is already making history,” Spotify wrote on its official Instagram account. Music comes five years after Carti released his second studio album, Whole Lotta Red, in 2020. Leading up to its release on Friday, the rapper had been teasing fans for months, including with Spotify’s help. The music streamer put up billboards across Los Angeles, New York City and Miami with both the album title and lyrics, such as “STREETS READY,” “I AM MUSIC MF” and “SORRY4 DA WAIT.” The album features a 30-song tracklist and guest collaborations with The Weeknd, Travis Scott, Future, Young Thug, Lil Uzi Vert and Young Thug and Kendrick Lamar. Some of the track names include “Pop Out,” “Radar,” “Backd00r,” ” Fine Shit,” “I Seeeeee You Baby Boi,” “Like Weezy,” “Good …

Kate Bush, Annie Lennox and 1,000 Musicians Protest AI with a New Silent Album

Kate Bush, Annie Lennox and 1,000 Musicians Protest AI with a New Silent Album

The good news is that an album has just been released by Kate Bush, Annie Lennox, Damon Albarn of Gorillaz, The Clash, Tori Amos, Hans Zimmer, Pet Shop Boys, Jamiroquai, and Yusuf (previously known as Cat Stevens), Billy Ocean, and many other musicians besides, most of them British. The bad news is that it contains no actual music. But the album, titled Is This What We Want?, has been created in hopes of preventing even worse news: the government of the United Kingdom choosing to let artificial-intelligence companies train their models on copyrighted work without a license. Such a move, in the words of the project’s leader Ed Newton-Rex, “would hand the life’s work of the country’s musicians to AI companies, for free, letting those companies exploit musicians’ work to outcompete them.” As a composer, he naturally has an interest in these matters, and as a “former AI executive,” he presumably has insider knowledge about them as well. “The government’s willingness to agree to these copyright changes shows how much our work is undervalued and …

Tate McRae Draws Large Crowd for Album Release Event in L.A.

Tate McRae Draws Large Crowd for Album Release Event in L.A.

Pop star Tate McRae brought legions of fans to the Kia Forum Thursday night for an activation-filled release event for her latest album, So Close to What. Taking over the parking lot of the Inglewood arena, the event was a McRae superfan’s dream — featuring photo ops, outfit displays, food trucks and freebie booths from American Express, Adidas and Neutrogena, the latter as sponsors of the event. Fans, many dressed in McRae-inspired ensembles of hotpants and a jersey, had to request a chance to purchase tickets for $8 through Ticketmaster. All ticket revenue is donated to FireAid to support L.A. wildfire relief efforts. The event was also streamed on TikTok for those who couldn’t be in person. McRae took the stage around 9 p.m., right as her new album was released, performing her recent single “Sports car” and “It’s OK I’m OK,” lights from cranes surrounding the stage and setting the scene. “Guys, what the fuck is up?” the 21-year-old singer screamed to the crowd, asking if they’d like to hear new songs. Tate McRae …

The internet thinks Drake’s new album is a total flop

The internet thinks Drake’s new album is a total flop

It is not the best time to be Drake. The Canadian artist released a new album on Friday. So far it has not been well received. And that’s putting it nicely. And, in case the rock you live under doesn’t have good WiFi, this came just days after Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime show. Lamar devoted a good portion of that show — the most watched broadcast in the country, by far — to further annihilating Drake in the beef that Lamar already decisively won. SEE ALSO: Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime show is breaking the internet So again: It is not the best time to be Drake, beyond, you know, the hundreds of millions of dollars in net worth. Mashable Top Stories The new album from Drake, in collaboration with PARTYNEXTDOOR, is titled $ome $exy $ongs 4 U. The album doesn’t seem to dig too far into the beef with Lamar, referencing it mostly on the track “Gimme a Hug.” Early reviews from critics have been pretty negative. And the album doesn’t seem to …

Yasmine Omar For starters, Cara recommends planning a thoughtful and intimate evening. Her top picks: “A yummy dinner, pretty hydrangeas or chrysanthemums, warm vanilla candles, Cadbury hazelnut chocolate bars, a bubble bath, and anything that feels cozy.” In addition to romantic gestures, the “Scars to Your Beautiful” songstress believes a good playlist can help set the mood. “I tend to write mainly autobiographical music just because I feel most compelled to pick up a pen and paper when I’m feeling something very deeply, whether bad or good,” Cara shares. “There’s a little something for every person, in any situation, on this album, whether you’re single and …

How A Charlie Brown Christmas, and Its Beloved Soundtrack Album, Almost Never Happened

How A Charlie Brown Christmas, and Its Beloved Soundtrack Album, Almost Never Happened

A Charlie Brown Christmas uses a cast of amateur child voice actors, deals with the theme of seasonal depression, and culminates in the recitation of a Bible verse, all to a jazz score. It was not, safe to say, the special that CBS had expected, to say nothing of its sponsor, the Coca-Cola Company. In all likelihood, it would have been canceled, but seeing as it had already been announced and promoted (and in any case, was completed only a few days before it was scheduled to air), the show went on. In the event, not only did it please the viewers of America, it went on to become one of the most beloved pieces of Christmas animation — and that jazz score went on to become one of the most beloved Christmas albums. In the new Digging the Greats video above, bassist Brandon Shaw breaks down some of the distinguishing characteristics of Vince Guaraldi’s score, with help from drummer Ryan Shaw (not just Brandon’s brother, but also a musician with his own direct connection …

How Keith Jarrett Played on a Broken Piano & Turned a Potentially Disastrous Concert Into the Best-Selling Piano Album of All Time (1975)

How Keith Jarrett Played on a Broken Piano & Turned a Potentially Disastrous Concert Into the Best-Selling Piano Album of All Time (1975)

Nearly fifty years ago, the celebrated young pianist Keith Jarrett arrived in the West German city of Köln (better known in English as Cologne). Having just come off a 500-mile-long road trip from Switzerland, where he’d played a concert the previous day, he was left with barely any time to recover before going onstage at the Köln Opera House that night — at 11:30 that night, to be precise, the only time that august cultural institution would give a jazz musician. Because the restaurant where he attempted to have dinner beforehand mixed up his order, he could barely eat a thing before showtime. And his back was acting up. Yet all of those difficulties were as nothing against the miserable instrument awaiting Jarrett at the opera house. He’d requested a Bösendorfer 290 Imperial grand piano, but a series of errors led to the staff setting up a dilapidated, frail-sounding baby grand of the same make. Unable to procure a replacement, the concert’s teenage organizer Vera Brandes called in a tuner to do his best to …

‘I can’t see anything’: Elton John unable to finish new album | Ents & Arts News

Sir Elton John says he has not been able to see out of his right eye for four months, and his left eye “is not the greatest”, following a severe infection. The 77-year-old singer said he has been unable to finish his new album due to his limited eyesight, and had been left feeling “stuck”. Asked about when the album with his long-time collaborator Bernie Taupin, which was announced last year, will be out the Rocketman star told ABC News’ Good Morning America: “I don’t know. It’s been a while since I’ve done anything, and well, I just have to get off my backside. “I unfortunately lost my eyesight in my right eye in July because I had an infection in the south of France and it’s been four months now since I haven’t been able to see, and my left eye is not the greatest. “So, there’s hope and encouragement that it will be okay, but… I’m kind of stuck at the moment, because I can do something like this [the interview], but going …
