The best wool jumpers under £40, according to a picky fashion editor

The best wool jumpers under £40, according to a picky fashion editor

I take pride in my knitwear collection, only adding to it each season with good-quality pieces I know I’ll wear on heavy rotation all season. And when it comes to keeping cosy in style, I always end up going for wool jumpers.  The thing is, though, brands can be quite misleading when it comes to throwing around the term “wool” in their descriptions. Big high street brands have recently been called out online for making men’s jumpers with a higher wool percentage than women’s wool-blend versions, and still charging women more.  Don’t get me wrong, I love raiding the menswear sections for shirting, tailoring and of course, jumpers, and I often size up to get that oversized look that never fails but I also want jumpers that are sized for women, so I went on the hunt for the under-£40 knits that have a high wool percentage for the price. A piece of advice: always hand-wash to ensure they look their best, for longer.  Still, it’s important to be clued up on the jumpers that …

Trump Says He Might Support Student Loan Interest Cap

Trump Says He Might Support Student Loan Interest Cap

Authored by Tom Gantert via The Epoch Times, President Donald Trump said on Saturday that he might support a bill capping federal student loan interest at 2.5 percent. Interest rates for newer federal student loans range from 6.52 percent to 9.07 percent, depending on the loan type. “President Trump said he will support capping federal student loan interest rates at 2.5%! This has been an issue that I’ve long championed in Congress,” said Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.) in an X post on Saturday. “Every American that decides to pursue higher education, especially in STEM, becomes an asset to our nation and gives us an edge on China.” Luna posted a video of Trump saying “he might” support an interest rate cap. In June, Luna introduced a resolution asking the House to consider legislation to lower the interest rate on federal student loans to 2 percent. The issue has been circulating in Congress for a while. Rep. Michael Lawler (R-N.Y.) introduced the Affordable Loans for Students bill in March 2025 that would lower the interest …

Thomas Markle issues new statement over ‘child sex images’ claim | Royal | News

The Duchess of Sussex’s estranged father has firmly denied child sex allegations, vowing to clear his name. Thomas Markle, 82, addressed the recent claims that have sparked international police inquiries, telling the Mail on Sunday: “I have never had sex with anyone under the age of 18.” But the retired Hollywood lighting director acknowledged travelling to the Philippines at least twice while single and paying for sex. He added: “I like Asian women but that is not a crime.” Speaking from a Florida nursing facility where he is recovering from a leg amputation, Mr Markle protested his innocence and pledged to co-operate fully with investigators. During the extensive interview, Mr Markle outlined his defence, stating that he is willing to take a lie detector test and speak directly to investigators, that he suspects his son, Thomas Markle Jnr—who reported him to the police—could be behind an original letter sent to Scotland Yard containing a number of claims about alleged offending, and that any illicit images found on his computer were “planted”. He also claimed that …

Soldiers guard center of Milan as thousands of protesters march in cities across Europe

Members of right-wing student groups march through the streets of Rome, Saturday, Oct. 24, 2026, during a demonstration called “Unlock Everything,” organized in opposition to recent left-wing student protests and one of several demonstrations held by groups across the political spectrum. Gregorio Borgia/AP hide caption toggle caption i Gregorio Borgia/AP MILAN — Thousands of young people marched Saturday through the streets of several Italian cities, including Milan, Rome and Turin, as authorities deployed large numbers of police and soldiers in a largely successful bid to stave off a repeat of the violent clashes and looting that marred similar protests last week. The demonstration in Milan remained peaceful, but there were brief clashes with police in both Rome and Turin. In Milan, thousands of young people marched the streets as soldiers were deployed and luxury boutiques were boarded up, but by late afternoon, most shops had opened, Italian media reported. Premier Giorgia Meloni announced a raft of measures, including sending an additional 500 soldiers to Milan and tougher penalties for minors, who police said made up …

Lazio go top with win over Parma as Roma rally to draw 3-3 at Napoli

NAPLES, Italy, Oct 24 : Lazio climbed to the top of the Serie A table with a 2-1 home win over Parma on Saturday as AS Roma twice came from behind to secure a 3-3 draw with Napoli in a pulsating Serie A clash in Naples. Lazio have 22 points from their eight matches this season and are three points clear of champions Inter Milan, who have played a game fewer and host Fiorentina on Sunday. Lazio opened the scoring in the 50th minute as Kenneth Taylor netted his first goal of the season, before Parma’s Diego Carlos put the ball into his own net trying to cut out a cross. The visitors scored a late consolation through Simone Lontani. Third-placed Roma trailed 2-0 and then 3-2 late on, so will be pleased with a point in Naples as they preserved their 15-game unbeaten run in Serie A that dates back to April. Frank Anguissa’s spectacular overhead kick gave Napoli the lead and Scott McTominay doubled the advantage. At that stage they were cruising, but …

Former NBA Star Malik Beasley Negotiating Plea Deal Over Gambling Charges

Former NBA Star Malik Beasley Negotiating Plea Deal Over Gambling Charges

Former NBA player Malik Beasley is negotiating a plea agreement with the Department of Justice after initially pleading not guilty to charges that he altered his play in certain games in 2024 to enrich sports bettors and ease his own debts, his attorney said Saturday. Beasley’s attorney, Steve Haney, told The Associated Press in a text message that they were negotiating an agreement with the government “with an expected direction in the coming days.” Beasley, 29, and sports agent Paolo Zamorano, who has also pleaded not guilty, were among six people charged in an indictment unsealed this summer detailing a gambling scandal that has involved more than three dozen arrests. Zamorano, 39, formerly represented another co-defendant, ex-NBA player Ed Davis, who had lent money to Beasley and is accused of acting as his “gatekeeper” in the alleged scheme. Beasley is accused of fixing or trying to fix his performance in at least four games while playing for the Milwaukee Bucks in 2024 by under or overperforming bookmakers’ expectations. In exchange, the indictment said, the bettors …

Airbnb hosts on their worst guests

Airbnb hosts on their worst guests

The first thing Sarah Mitchell noticed was the smell. A sickening combination of stale alcohol, cigarettes and something far worse. She opened the living room door to find dog faeces on the floor. In an Airbnb that specifies it’s not pet-friendly. “I actually gagged,” recalls Sarah, 46, who owns a two-bedroom holiday cottage in the Cotswolds. “I’ve got two teenage boys, so I’m hardly squeamish, but I’ve never seen anything like it.” The mattress topper in one bedroom had been removed, but an unmistakable smell of vomit and stains had leached into the mattress. “The worst part was realising somebody had slept in that bed, made that mess and then simply walked away, knowing full well another human would have to clean it up.” The duvet in the master bedroom also had urine stains, although Sarah admits she doesn’t know if it was from a human or a dog.  Sarah had rented out her cottage on Airbnb for three years without a serious problem. These nightmare guests, a couple in their thirties, booked a four-night …

Trump administration sues to block certification of Alaska election

Trump administration sues to block certification of Alaska election

The Trump administration wants to block the certification of the Senate election in Alaska if Republican Senator Dan Sullivan loses, arguing that another candidate with the same name may confuse voters. The justice department said in a federal lawsuit filed on Thursday that the inclusion of another Dan Sullivan on the ballot could lead some to mistakenly cast their votes for the wrong candidate. Polls suggest the race between Senator Sullivan and Democrat Mary Peltola is tight, with Peltola holding a narrow lead in the final days before the 3 November vote. The US government wants the judge to bar the state from certifying the results if Senator Sullivan loses by a margin less than the other Sullivan. “I’m the one that said do it,” US President Donald Trump told reporters when asked for his thoughts on the lawsuit after he landed in Florida for a campaign rally on Friday. Trump has referred to the second Sullivan’s candidacy as a “scam” and said his administration was looking at “powerful legal options” to end it. The …

Trump Admin Asks Supreme Court To Allow Border Wall Construction In Texas

Authored by Troy Myers via The Epoch Times, The Trump administration has petitioned the Supreme Court to allow border wall construction to resume in the Big Bend area of Texas. In an emergency application filed with the high court on Oct. 21, lawyers for the federal government asked the justices to lift a lower court order halting construction of President Donald Trump’s key project that began during his first term in office. In the Oct. 3 order, U.S. District Judge Kathleen Cardone sided with environmental groups who claimed the work was unconstitutional, breached the separation of powers, and took land from residents. “This case involves a baseless injunction that halts a major portion of the construction of the border wall,” U.S. Solicitor General D. John Sauer wrote in the emergency application. “Leaving a 300-plus-mile gap in border defenses would act as a dangerous magnet for cartels and other bad actors to exploit as other routes close off.” The Trump administration argued that continuing construction was crucial because the Big Bend region encompasses nearly one-quarter of …
