Jason Sudeikis’ next role revealed after Ted Lasso Season 4

Jason Sudeikis’ next role revealed after Ted Lasso Season 4

Jason Sudeikis is taking on another sports-related role after finishing up season four of Ted Lasso — but that’s about where the similarities end.

The 51-year-old actor has been selected to appear as ESPN’s College GameDay celebrity guest picker for the Notre Dame-Miami game Saturday.

The Ted Lasso star, who plays the titular optimistic soccer coach in the hit Apple+ TV series, said Notre Dame has a special meaning for him because his grandfather and uncle graduated from the Indiana university.

“With deep family roots right here at Notre Dame, having him on campus feels like home,” the Fighting Irish team’s official athletics X account posted Thursday.

Sudeikis said on The Pat McAfee Show that he grew up loving Notre Dame football after it was the first college game he ever saw.

“It’s big in my family,” the Saturday Night Live alum told McAfee, one of College GameDay’s hosts. “Growing up, my folks are from Chicago – my mom from the South Side. Her father, my grandfather, was a graduate from Notre Dame.”

He continued: “My very first Notre Dame football game that I went to was October 15, 1988‚ the Catholics vs. Convicts game, as it was known way back then.”

“I’m going to get to relive my childhood on Saturday at this game,” Sudeikis added.

A huge sports fan, the Emmy-winning actor is known for attending New York Liberty games and cheering on Kansas men’s basketball, as well as Iowa women’s basketball.

The Emmy-winning actor will join sports analysts on ESPN’s pregame show this weekend to make game predictions alongside the professionals. The show airs Saturday ahead of the match up between the Fighting Irish and the Hurricanes. Miami is currently the No. 1 team in the country, but with a win, 11th-ranked Notre Dame could shake up the standings for the rest of the season.

It comes after the surprise season four of Ted Lasso finished airing last month. Sudeikis initially thought the hit series, which debuted in 2020,would conclude with season three, but ended up delighting fans with a fourth season that premiered in August.

In the newest installment of the show, Sudeikis’s character returns to England to coach a second-division women’s team.

Sudeikis has made it clear that he is open to taking on a fifth and sixth season of the acclaimed comedy, although the series has not officially been renewed.

Acknowledging that making a show “takes a village,” Sudeikis said on Talk Easy with Sam Fragoso last month that he “would assume” that Apple would be interested in continuing the series.

I studied medicine at Trinity College, Oxford, and qualified as a doctor. There are already many excellent blogs exploring faith, humanism, atheism, politics, rationalism, philosophical doubt and everything in between. But I don't intend to limit myself to any particular subject. This is simply a space where I'll share whatever comes to mind, whether it's something I've been thinking about for years or just a passing thought from the day.
