Ofsted to trial inspection proposals with 240 ‘visits’

Ofsted to trial inspection proposals with 240 ‘visits’

More from this theme Recent articles Ofsted has revealed how it will test its proposed new approach to inspection in the coming weeks, with trial visits to around 240 schools, colleges and early years settings. The watchdog is currently consulting on plans to overhaul its inspection process. They plan to end ungraded inspections, increase monitoring of under-performing schools, and introduce new inspection “toolkits“. The plans would also introduce controversial new “reports cards“, through which inspectors would judge schools and colleges across up to 11 areas using a five-point grading system. Ofsted piloted the proposed new framework at six education providers before it launched its public consultation on February 3, and had said it planned to trial it further once the consultation was underway. The inspectorate said its visits would “provide an early opportunity for our inspectors to become familiar with the main features of the new approach. “Of course, they will do this without pre-judging further changes, which may follow the consultation.” Which settings will get a visit? On Wednesday, the watchdog revealed it will …

Trial of Tupac murder suspect postponed for almost a year | Ents & Arts News

The trial of the only suspect ever to be charged with the murder of rapper Tupac Shakur, almost 30 years after his death, has been postponed for almost a year. During a short hearing in Las Vegas on Tuesday, Clark County District Court Judge Carli Kierny said she had little choice but to reschedule given new developments presented by Duane “Keffe D” Davis’ lawyers. Davis, 61, was charged with Tupac‘s murder in September 2023 and has been in jail since his arrest. He has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and his trial has already been pushed back twice, from June to November 2024, and then to March this year. Now, the case has been rescheduled for February 2026. Image: Davis’s attorney Carl Arnold, pictured during an earlier hearing in January. Tupac Shakur trial: Defence lawyers investigate possible alternative cause of death | Ents & Arts News

Lawyers for the man suspected of killing rap icon Tupak Shakur are investigating evidence that could show an alternative cause of death. Duane “Keffe D” Davis is the only person still alive who was in the vehicle from which shots were fired in Las Vegas, Nevada, on 7 September 1996. Shakur died from his injuries six days later. And Davis’s lawyers say they have witness information that Shakur was in stable condition after the shooting. They are consulting medical and forensic experts to evaluate potential alternative causes of death. Defence lawyers also want to delay next month’s trial, saying more time is needed for investigative work to ensure Davis gets a fair trial. The motion filed on Friday in a Nevada court provides insight into Davis’ defence, noting that a private investigator has identified witnesses who can testify that he was not at the scene of the 1996 shooting, nor was he in Las Vegas at the time. It will come before a consultation on introducing new report card inspections is launched later in January. Later in the term, and in “parallel with the consultation”, Ofsted will then “formally pilot the new approach in schools” as well as other education providers. Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs denied bail by judge as he awaits sex trafficking trial | Ents & Arts News

The rapper Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has been denied bail again by a judge as he awaits trial on sex trafficking charges. It means the musician and producer, also known as P Diddy, will stay jailed, despite a $50m bid to be released. Combs was arrested on suspicion of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking in September. He has been imprisoned for the last 10 weeks. The hip-hop mogul has pleaded not guilty to charges that he coerced and abused women for years with the aid of a network of associates and employees, while silencing victims through blackmail and violence – including kidnapping, arson and physical beatings. He says his sexual relationships were consensual, and denies all wrongdoing. This was the 55-year-old’s fourth attempt at being released before his trial. His lawyers made two requests in the days after he was charged, followed by an appeal which was denied in October. US District Judge Arun Subramanian announced the latest bail rejection decision in a written order, after hearing arguments during a two-hour hearing on 22 November in …
