Google’s Apparently Adding ‘Emoji Audio,’ Including a Fart Noise, to Android. Here’s How to Use

[ad_1] Google I/O is less than a few weeks away, but you don’t have to wait that long to revel in a (definitely) new and (maybe) exciting Android feature. For whatever reason, Google is now rolling out “audio emoji” to the beta version Phone by Google app, which you can sign up for right now. You can also just wait, seeing as this feature will most likely release to the general public pretty soon. There are six sound effects to choose from, including a fart noise, which all correspond to existing emoji. You can play the audio emoji directly during a phone call to make an (annoying) impression on whoever you’re talking with. Don’t miss: Best Android phone of 2024 If I had to choose an equivalent, it would be to those soundboards that old school radio hosts used to play with during interviews and dead air, with all sorts of quirky sound effects, like a toilet flushing or a sad trombone. If you’re looking to be that person, well, then you’ll definitely want to take …

Google is adding audio emoji to calls. Yep, including that one.

[ad_1] Last year Google added emoji reacts to Google Meet, and it seems as though the company will be continuing the trend in 2024. Next in line for an emoji-based reaction update? Google Phone. Only this time, we’re getting them in audio form. SEE ALSO: Google Meet now lets you discreetly switch from desktop to phone. Here’s how. Yep, per 9to5Google, the company has started rolling out “audio emoji” to Google Phone app users. Six emoji are available so far via the overflow menu: Clapping, Laughing, Party, Crying, Drum and, of course, the Poop emoji. The latter – you guessed it – plays a fart sound to all call participants. The Crying emoji gives a trombone noise, while the Drum gives the classic post-joke ba-dum ts. Mashable Light Speed Google hasn’t yet announced the feature officially, but screenshots have already started doing the rounds on social media. According to reports there’s a cooldown between each use of an audio emoji, so you can’t just sit there hammering out incessant fart sounds. Google’s annual developer conference, …

Scientists debate adding a Category 6 for mega-hurricanes

Scientists debate adding a Category 6 for mega-hurricanes

[ad_1] In 1973, the National Hurricane Center introduced the Saffir-Simpson scale, a five-category rating system that classified hurricanes by wind intensity. At the bottom of the scale was Category 1, for storms with sustained winds of 74 to 95 mph. At the top was Category 5, for disasters with winds of 157 mph or more. In the half-century since the scale’s debut, land and ocean temperatures have steadily risen as a result of greenhouse gas emissions. Hurricanes have become more intense, with stronger winds and heavier rainfall. This week a research team at the University of Pennsylvania led by climate scientist Michael Mann predicted that the North Atlantic will see an unprecedented 33 named tropical cyclones from June 1 to Nov. 30. With catastrophic storms regularly blowing past the 157-mph threshold, some scientists argue, the Saffir-Simpson scale no longer adequately conveys the threat the biggest hurricanes present. Earlier this year, two climate scientists published a paper that compared historical storm activity to a hypothetical version of the Saffir-Simpson scale that included a Category 6, for …

Joan Baez Used Her Voice for Political Activism. Now She’s Adding a Brand-New Chapter to Her Legacy

Joan Baez Used Her Voice for Political Activism. Now She’s Adding a Brand-New Chapter to Her Legacy

[ad_1] A formidable voice since her days in the ’60s-era folk and protest movements, Joan Baez has embarked on a new journey of introspection. Her autobiographical debut poetry collection, When You See My Mother, Ask Her to Dance, is out later this month from Godine and chronicles her life and rise to fame, from grappling with the trappings of celebrity to navigating the relationships she built along the way, whether with her contemporaries, family, or Bob Dylan. Though the Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter has been writing for years, the 120-page collection marks the first time she’s sharing her poetry publicly, the culmination of decades spent detailing her life. “I put everything away until I was thinking of making this book,” she recently told Vanity Fair. “I had to go all over my house and property and office and storage unit to find bits and pieces of it, and that took a long time. And then I got very excited about it because I had forgotten the poems, and honestly, how good they are. So that spurred me …

Odd Ball, the ball-shaped music instrument, is adding new gestures so you can become a house DJ

[ad_1] Odd Ball is a company that makes fun electronic bouncy balls that let you generate MIDI sounds by tapping or bouncing them. The company is adding new gestures to its device — including spin, twist, move, shake, and air throw — so you can generate sounds in a new way. With the most recent app update, the company also lets you be the DJ at a house party with these gestures. It has included a DJ mode with some background tracks and on-screen instructions for gestures for that track. When you combine one or more gestures, the app will play sound effects on top of the track. Image Credits: Odd Ball The startup now puts gestures into two categories: Triggers (tap, shake, twist), which the company describes as akin to playing a note; and Modulators (move, spin, air throw), which the company thinks of as knobs on a console. The intensity of the gesture also matters. The app will generate sound based on how hard or fast you spin or shake the ball. Image …

Adidas bans fans from adding ‘44’ to German team football shirt | Germany

Adidas bans fans from adding ‘44’ to German team football shirt | Germany

[ad_1] Adidas has banned football fans from customising the German national shirt with the number 44 due to its perceived resemblance to the symbol used by Nazi SS units during the second world war. The Schutzstaffel (SS), a paramilitary organisation of Adolf Hitler’s Third Reich, was tasked with carrying out the industrialised genocide of Jewish people across Europe. Concerns over the jerseys were originally raised by the historian Michael König, who said the kit’s design was “very questionable”. The German away kit also provoked controversy due to its pink colour. Supporters say it reflects Germany’s diversity, while critics claim it is untraditional and a cash grab organised by the German Football Association (DFB). An Adidas spokesperson, Oliver Brüggen, denied that the kit’s resemblance to the Nazi symbols was intentional. “We as a company are committed to opposing xenophobia, antisemitism, violence and hatred in every form,” he said. “We will block personalisation of the jerseys.” Designed in 1929, the SS rune has become synonymous with some of the worst crimes perpetrated by the Nazis. Members of …

Crazed CEOs Adding AI to Home Appliances

Crazed CEOs Adding AI to Home Appliances

[ad_1] Can we just not? Dumb House Wild-eyed execs have been eager to inject AI all over the workplace, drawing jeers from naysayers who think the tech is overblown, imperfectly implemented, and that ultimately it’s a tool being cruelly used to replace human workers with no benefit to customers. Well, get ready for more AI because CEOs at appliance companies want to put AI in your oven and other household items, Forbes reports, which sounds like a privacy and functionality hellscape waiting to happen. “Generative AI in your oven? Why not?” writes tech influencer and self-proclaimed futurist Bernard Marr in a Forbes column dripping with AI enthusiasm. “After all, AI has been creeping into our homes for years (think smart lightbulbs and Alexa) — but thanks to generative AI, these interactions will become even more human and more personal.” Marr says GE Appliances is pushing AI into its SmartHQ app in the form of a system to analyze the food inside your fridge and come up with recipes for meals. And appliance manufacturer Miele also wants to …

Threads is adding live scores for sports games, starting with the NBA

[ad_1] Threads, the Twitter-like app from Instagram, is adding live scores for sports games. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced on Friday that Threads has started testing live scores for NBA games, and that the platform plans to add support for additional leagues in the future. The launch of the feature comes as Threads continues to take on X, which has had live scores for sports games for around a decade now. With this new feature, Threads is seeking to attract users who would normally go on X to discuss live games and stay up-to-date on the latest developments. Threads isn’t just adding live scores — users will also be able to tap a team’s logo to be redirected to the conversation about that team, and connect with other users who follow them. Image Credits: Threads Threads told TechCrunch that the new feature will make it easier for users to join in on conversations about their favorite teams. The company says basketball has become one of the most popular topics on the social network and that …

I’m adding this one Pilates exercise into my routine to build muscle all over

I’m adding this one Pilates exercise into my routine to build muscle all over

[ad_1] I’m always looking for new ways to develop muscle, strength, and tone up and I generally rely on lifting weights to do this. But I’ve recently become interested in equipment-free workouts for building core strength as I’ve noticed this is an area of weakness for me. My desk job leaves me with frequent achiness in my back and I’m hoping doing more core workouts can help. Georgia Weibel, a Pilates instructor, recently shared an Instagram Reel demonstrating one exercise designed to target the core, inner thighs, and shoulders. I decided to try this seemingly simple equipment-free exercise on my lunch break to see if it would activate muscles in my upper and lower body. Weibel recommends doing 12 repetitions, so I decided to try this four times round with a short rest in between. Watch Weibel’s Instagram Reel I tend to assume that bodyweight exercises will be easier than lifting weights, but I’m often proven wrong—they just work the body in different ways, as I discovered doing this Pilates movement.  My core muscles were …
