Scoot cancels some flights in May as supply chain woes bite

Scoot cancels some flights in May as supply chain woes bite

Speaking at the Singapore Airshow in February, Airbus Asia-Pacific’s president Anand Stanley told CNA about the backlog orders and that Asia-Pacific region is the fastest growing market, and also the largest market, in aviation. “We are talking about 19,000 to 20,000 aircraft over the next 20 years, so it is (an) unstoppable demand to be honest,” he said. The demand for aircraft has been going up post-pandemic, said Mr Stanley. “We are looking at 19,000 new aircraft that are required, which shows that air travel is back,” he said. “Last year, we had a record year in terms of our backlog and orders. We have 8,300 aircraft in the backlog right now.” Mr Stanley also acknowledged that while Airbus was “in a ramp-up to meet demand”, supply chain had yet to catch up, so this was an area the company would have to work closely with suppliers to “resolve and more importanly, meet the needs of airline customers and consumers”. The loss of skilled manpower during the COVID-19 pandemic and reduced supply sources by the …

Olly Murs apologises for cancelling Glasgow gig with Take That after flight woes | Ents & Arts News

Olly Murs has apologised for cancelling a performance in Glasgow at the last minute. The singer has been supporting Take That on tour, but was forced to cancel his appearance with the band at the OVO Hydro due to transport issues. Murs said he had been at Heathrow from 11am ahead of his performance on Friday night, but the flight was cancelled after “several delays” and an accident with a cabin crew member. “So sorry to everyone at the @takethat show tonight in Glasgow, unfortunately I won’t be there,” the 39-year-old former X-Factor runner-up wrote on X. “Don’t think I’ve ever missed a gig before, am so annoyed! “But am now in a car heading up for our six-hour journey for the Saturday and Sundays show right now.” The singer had been updating fans via his Instagram story, sharing a video from inside the plane – which was “stuck on the runway” – before he disembarked and attempted to board another flight. “I’m trying my best to get to Glasgow,” he said. Gloomy UK Economy Forecast Adds To Rishi Sunak’s Woes

Gloomy UK Economy Forecast Adds To Rishi Sunak’s Woes

The UK is set to be the worst performing economy in the G7 in 2025, according to a forecast from an economic think tank. The Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) cut its forecast for the UK’s growth outlook for GDP to 0.4% this year down from 0.7%. The think tank predicted the UK’s growth would be the second worst in the group for 2024 – only Germany is expected to have a slower economic growth this year, at 0.2%. The forecaster expects the UK’s fortunes to take a turn for the worst next year, too. It cut predictions for 2025 growth down to 1% from 1.2%, and thinks the UK will become the slowest growing economy in the G7. In fact, in 2025 the UK is set to have the same growth as Russia, despite the heavy sanctions against it and the resource drain of the Ukraine war. The 1% growth is also half of the number predicted by the Treasury’s independent forecaster, the Office for Budget Responsibility. The think tank pinned this …

Biden blames China, Japan and India’s economic woes on ‘xenophobia’

President Joe Biden said on Wednesday that “xenophobia” from China to Japan and India is hobbling their growth, as he argued that migration has been good for the U.S. economy. Kevin Lamarque | Reuters President Joe Biden said on Wednesday that “xenophobia” from China to Japan and India is hobbling their growth, as he argued that migration has been good for the U.S. economy. “One of the reasons why our economy’s growing is because of you and many others. Why? Because we welcome immigrants,” Biden said at a Washington fundraising event for his 2024 re-election campaign and marking the start of Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. “Why is China stalling so badly economically, why is Japan having trouble, why is Russia, why is India, because they’re xenophobic. They don’t want immigrants. Immigrants are what makes us strong.” The International Monetary Fund forecast last month that each country would see its growth decelerate in 2024 from the year prior, ranging from 0.9% in highly developed Japan to 6.8% in emerging India. They forecast that the United States would grow at 2.7%, slightly brisker than its 2.5% rate last year. Many economists attribute better-than-expected performance partly to a …

Royal Family LIVE: Meghan Markle’s American Riviera faces woes after CEO search disaster | Royal | News

Meghan Markle has failed to find a CEO to head her brand, American Riviera Orchard – despite having several candidates interview for the position. The 42-year-old, who stepped down as as senior working royal in 2020, launched her new cooking and lifestyle business in March. Speaking of the hire search, which is said to have started five weeks ago, a California-based source said: “The initial CEO search has not panned out so far.” In an interesting development, Meghan is reportedly said to be in talks with Netflix to help enter a commercial partnership with American Riviera Orchard. The source added: “This is something new for Netflix. It would run the lifestyle business with Meghan, developing products as spin-offs from the show. “If a partnership is agreed, it’s likely that Netflix would install its own CEO to run operations.” According to MailOnline, Meghan’s brand will “focus on home, garden, food and lifestyle wares” and will be “highly lucrative”. An Episcopal seminary found a solution to its fiscal woes. Then 7 bishops intervened.

An Episcopal seminary found a solution to its fiscal woes. Then 7 bishops intervened.

(RNS) — A plan to save a troubled historic Episcopal seminary in New York has come under fire after seven bishops registered their opposition to offering a long-term lease of the seminary to a nonprofit with alleged ties to a Catholic music school funded by a conservative donor.  The bishops, who lead Episcopal dioceses in New York and Long Island, issued a statement last month objecting that the School of Sacred Music, which is negotiating to sign a long-term lease with General Episcopal Seminary in New York, has ties to a donor that does not support rights for gay, transgender and queer people. “We are concerned by the lack of full acceptance of the LGBTQ stance of its founders and the lack of transparency in its funding,” the bishops said, according to Episcopal News Service, an official church publication. Founded in 1817, General, the Episcopal Church’s oldest and once most prominent school for training clergy, has, like many mainline Protestant seminaries, fallen on hard times in recent years. In the past fiscal year, it ran …

Amid legal woes, Brazil’s Bolsonaro seeks passport return for Israel trip | Jair Bolsonaro News

Brazil’s embattled former President Jair Bolsonaro has requested the return of his passport in order to visit Israel, fuelling speculation that he could be seeking respite abroad from his domestic legal troubles. Defence lawyer and Bolsonaro spokesperson Fabio Wajngarten addressed his request in a social media post on Thursday. “The defence team of President [Jair Bolsonaro] petitioned the Supreme Court last Monday, on March 25, to request the return of the president’s passport, albeit for a fixed period, with a view to accept an invitation to visit Israel next month,” Wajngarten wrote. “As is publicly known, international relations are a part of political activity, as well as building dialogue with global leaders.” Bolsonaro, who served as president from 2019 to 2022, has faced a maelstrom of investigations and legal troubles since leaving office, resulting in the removal of his passport. One of the latest involved allegations that Bolsonaro, a far-right leader, participated in crafting a draft decree that would have overturned the results of the 2022 presidential election, which he lost. The draft decree also …

Furnished rental startup Blueground defies proptech woes with 0M in revenue, a new M raise

Furnished rental startup Blueground defies proptech woes with $560M in revenue, a new $45M raise

Alex Chatzieleftheriou founded Blueground in 2013 after being frustrated with the dearth of short-term furnished apartments in Europe. He had been traveling as a consultant for McKinsey, living almost exclusively in hotel rooms for months. “One time the company had to pay up to €15,000 for a hotel room in Amsterdam. And there wasn’t enough space nor a kitchen to cook,” he said. “I tried renting apartments for a month or more. But it was difficult, and landlords weren’t open to buying furniture. So I had created a business that would solve my problem.”  Some years later, at the height of the pandemic, business was booming for his startup’s category – short-term, furnished apartment rental companies – as people roamed the world while working from home. Now that many employers have called workers back to offices, the demand for temporary housing has cratered.   Some of his competitors didn’t survive. Zeus Living and WanderJaunt shut their doors and returned the keys. Some became acquisition opportunities for Blueground. In 2022, the company gained a strong foothold in …

Joe Biden Mocks Trump’s Money Woes as the Ex-President Hawks Bibles for .99

Joe Biden Mocks Trump’s Money Woes as the Ex-President Hawks Bibles for $59.99

Donald Trump received a major reprieve on Monday when a panel of state appeals judges reduced the $464 million bond he must pay the state of New York to $175 million, and gave him an extra 10 days to do it. Still, the ex-president’s financial situation remains far from good, and one person who was very happy to point that out this week—and basically call Trump a broke bitch—was Joe Biden. Yes, at a fundraiser in Raleigh on Tuesday, the president, trying out some new material, told the crowd: “I know everyone is not feeling the enthusiasm. The other day, a defeated guy came up to me and said, ‘Mr. President, I’m being crushed by debt—completely wiped out.’” Then he paused and delivered the line: “I had to look at him and say, ‘Sorry, Donald, I can’t help you’.” As The Washington Post reports, the joke “is emblematic of [the Biden] campaign’s effort to flip the script on the presidential race since the State of the Union address. With rapid-fire fundraising, busy campaigning, and jabs …
