The remains of the Palaestra where ancient Olympians trained in GreeceCredit: Bgabel at wikivoyage shared, CC BY-SA 3.0 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. — Ephesians 6:12 By Rick Renner Spiritual warfare is real! The devil and his demon spirits are not myths or fantasies. These are real beings that hate the human race and therefore roam about seeking whom they might destroy and devour. That’s why it is vitally important to know how to best protect yourself against their attacks! Most of the attacks the devil wages against you will occur in your mind. He knows that your mind is the central control center for your life; therefore, if he can take control of one small area of your mind, he can begin to expand outward into other weak areas that need to be strengthened by the Holy Spirit and the Word of God. By poisoning your mind with unbelief and lying …

Exploding pagers, psychological warfare: Israel’s attack on Hezbollah | Israel-Palestine conflict News

Beirut, Lebanon – At least nine people were killed and some 3,000 injured, including the Iranian ambassador to Lebanon, when thousands of pagers exploded – nearly simultaneously – in Lebanon. The attack on Tuesday, which purportedly targeted members of the Hezbollah group, caused havoc in civilian areas and overwhelmed hospitals. A resident of the Burj al-Barajneh refugee camp told Al Jazeera traffic was heavy as bloodied people arrived at the nearby Al Rassoul al-Azam Hospital. Lebanese hospitals called on all available medics to report for duty as injured people poured through their doors in need of treatment, many covered in blood and in visible pain. Iranian media said Iran’s Ambassador to Lebanon Mojtaba Amani was injured by an exploding pager. Iran’s mission in Beirut later posted on X, formerly Twitter, saying Amani’s treatment was “progressing well”, adding the reports of his “physical condition and vision are false”. Attacks were also reported in neighbouring Syria. An officer inspects a car in which a pager exploded in Beirut on September 17, 2024 [Hussein Malla/AP Photo] Hezbollah pledges ‘fair …

How Bayonets Revolutionized Warfare

How Bayonets Revolutionized Warfare

A sharpened stick was probably the first weapon invented by humans. Since then, the spear has been the most important weapon on most battlefields until the widespread introduction of gunpowder and firearms. However, owing to the limitations of early firearms technology, it would be centuries before armies could do away with “pointy sticks” altogether. Ranged infantry remained vulnerable against cavalry or melee infantry at close quarters. The solution was to make early firearms capable of becoming the trusty “pointy stick” at a moment’s notice. Thus, the bayonet was invented!   The Era of Pike and Shot Battle of Rocroi, Augusto Ferrer-Dalmau, 2011. Source:Wikimedia Commons   Although the introduction of firearms radically changed the nature of warfare, the pace of transformation was slower than one might expect. The earliest firearms were inaccurate, temperamental, and slow to reload. Moreover, troops armed with muskets and arquebuses were extremely vulnerable in hand-to-hand fighting. They typically lacked armor and had only the clubbed stock of their firearms or cheap melee weapons to fend off attackers in close combat. Thus, …

Gray Zone Warfare: How to complete the Secret Compassion task

Gray Zone Warfare: How to complete the Secret Compassion task

Gray Zone Warfare is largely a game about shooting bad guys in the face with your squad of highly trained military hardmen. Sometimes though you need to also think about the Hearts and Minds and a little can go a long way when it comes to winning over the local population. GZW’s Secret Compassion task is one such example and that is what we are going to complete here. How to complete Secret Compassion This is the first task we are looking at that will be given to you by Lab Rat rather than Handshake and involves you on a humanitarian mission to place supplies in certain locations in order to complete it. This task is a bit of a pain in the backside because the locations are not instantly obvious. As we probably know by now, the faction you have joined is largely irrelevant as each has its own nearby town with exactly the same things in it, you just need to go to the right locations near your Base Camp and leave the …

Gray Zone Warfare: How to complete the First Hit task

Gray Zone Warfare: How to complete the First Hit task

Gray Zone Warfare is a game about getting in, getting the job done, and extracting out with the minimum of fuss possible. Of course, it’s not always possible to not cause a scene and a scene is what you are going to cause when you carry out an assassination on the Criminal Boss in First Hit. How to complete First Hit As ever Handshake is the vendor at Base Camp dealing out the missions so accept it and off we go. Whatever faction you have joined has pretty much the same job to do and your nearby town will contain a marketplace where your target will be hanging out. Being the bossman though means he is likely to be, and by that means is, and heavily too, guarded by henchmen. The idea is not to get into a firefight until necessary, you can scout around the marketplace and you are looking for a shady-looking dude wearing shades and a red beret. He has to be taken down to complete First Hit. There is no set …

Gray Zone Warfare: How to complete the New Neighbours task

Gray Zone Warfare: How to complete the New Neighbours task

Every time you just want to sit down and listen to some old Motown and crack open a ration pack like in the best ‘Nam movies, up pops Handshake in Gray Zone Warfare with a new mission for you. This time it is New Neighbours, and for this one, you best have your wits about you at all times. How to complete New Neighbours Once you have tidied up all the first batch of tasks from handshake he will require you to head out to a complex. Obviously, there is going to be more to it than that if we know game designers, and we think we do! Yomp out to the complex which is marked YBL-1 on your map. You will see it if you head for map coordinates 143, 121. As you close in on the complex you will get the next part of the mission and find out you will need to recover some intel. Head inside via one of the multiple entrances. You are looking for a security room with plenty …

Gray Zone Warfare: Best faction to choose, plus new patch lets you finally swap between them

Gray Zone Warfare: Best faction to choose, plus new patch lets you finally swap between them

One of the biggest bugbears Gray Zone Warfare players faced in the first couple of days of play was that once you had chosen your faction at the beginning of a game when you first set up your character, there was no way to change it, which had the knock-on effect of not being able to team up with your friends if they had chosen a different faction. Can you change factions in Gray Zone Warfare? Thankfully a new patch has just been pushed (2nd May) that fixes this oversight and we can now switch allegiances as much as any top-line politician can. It’s not quite all plain sailing, you need to wipe your character and sign up with a new faction and will lose all your items and progress, but it is a start. I guess deserters have to pay some price. Here we are going to look at the three different factions in-game and try and make head or tail of which you should choose to sign up with. Gray Zone Warfare Factions …

From welfare to warfare: Sunak’s spending shift imperils local services again | Richard Partington

Talking tough on “sicknote culture”, stopping the boats and offering billions of pounds extra for defence spending. Ahead of local elections in England and Wales this week, Rishi Sunak has been in campaign overdrive. With the prime minister suffering the joint-lowest satisfaction rating of any Conservative or Labour leader since 1978, experts are predicting a drubbing for the Tories, with the party expected to lose as many as half the seats it is contesting. The prominent Tory mayors in the West Midlands and Tees Valley, Andy Street and Ben Houchen, could be ejected from power. It comes at a time of financial crisis for England’s system of local government, with more local authorities going bust in the past three years than in the previous three decades. Levelling up is all but abandoned; transformed from a flagship government promise to an afterthought. Yet, in the policy blitz before the local elections, the prime minister’s priorities have clearly been focused elsewhere as he offers rightwing red meat to Tory rebels who could use poor local election results …

Do Tanks Have a Place in 21st-Century Warfare?

Do Tanks Have a Place in 21st-Century Warfare?

The drone combat in Ukraine that is transforming modern warfare has begun taking a deadly toll on one of the most powerful symbols of American military might — the tank — and threatening to rewrite how it will be used in future conflicts. Over the last two months, Russian forces have taken out five of the 31 American-made M1 Abrams tanks that the Pentagon sent to Ukraine last fall, a senior U.S. official said. At least another three have been moderately damaged since the tanks were sent to front lines early this year, said Col. Markus Reisner, an Austrian military trainer who closely follows how weapons are being used — and lost — in the war in Ukraine. That is a sliver of the 796 of Ukraine’s main battle tanks that have been destroyed, captured or abandoned since the war began in February 2022, according to Oryx, a military analysis site that counts losses based on visual evidence. A vast majority of those are Soviet-era, Russian or Ukrainian-made tanks; only about 140 of those taken …
