Beyonce: Oklahoma radio station U-turns on country song after fan’s racism claim goes viral | Ents & Arts News

An Oklahoma radio station has backtracked after its refusal to play a country song by Beyonce went viral. The star unveiled two country-style songs during the Super Bowl ads at the weekend, but when a fan asked KYKC to play one they flatly refused. Its curt reply – that we “do not play Beyonce on KYKC as we are a country music station” – racked up 3.5 million views and 25,000 likes on X. The fan accused the station of “blatant racism and discrimination” and urged others to email to request the track. Tagging fan account @BeyLegion appeared to do the trick and the station quickly changed its mind. It said it simply was not aware Beyonce had released the new country tracks, Texas Hold Em and 16 Carriages. “We initially refused to play it in the same manner if someone requested us to play the Rolling Stones on our country station,” said general manager Roger Harris. All Keir Starmer’s Labour U-turns in one place – POLITICO

All Keir Starmer’s Labour U-turns in one place – POLITICO

The party’s position has since evolved. Starmer ended up joining British PM Rishi Sunak in calling for a “sustainable” cease-fire, a month on from his party’s split on the issue.  Issuing correction on previous post of mine: you do not have to hand it to Thatcher Okay, this one is a stretch. But hear us out: in a December article in the Conservative-supporting Daily Telegraph newspaper, Starmer positively gushed about the former Tory PM Margaret Thatcher — the very mention of whom sends shivers down the spines of Britain’s lefties.  In a paragraph that also praised former Labour leaders Tony Blair and Clement Atlee, he said that the iron lady set loose Britain’s “natural entrepreneurialism.” Judge his comments for yourself here. In interviews following the publication, Starmer sought to make very clear that he didn’t agree with Thatcher’s actions — a qualification, you may notice, he did not bother to include in his article itself. The u-turn was complete when Starmer, less than a week later, used a speech to Scottish Labour bigwigs in Thatcher-hating …

Spotify u-turns on Uruguay exit after government gives assurances on artist payments

Spotify u-turns on Uruguay exit after government gives assurances on artist payments

Spotify has reversed course on a decision to exit the Uruguayan market, after gaining assurances from the government that copyright law changes it’s introducing won’t result in Spotify incurring extra costs. For those not following all the goings-ons in Uruguay’s music-streaming scene, the saga unfolded something like this. Last October, Uruguay passed a new law that stipulated, among other things, that artists should receive “fair and equitable” remuneration for their work. As far is recorded music is concerned, this didn’t purely mean the main “featured” artist, but everyone on a recording, from composers and performers to session musicians and beyond. The issue, as far as Spotify was concerned, is that it claimed to already pay around 70% of every dollar it generates from music to record labels and publishers. As such, the company sought clarity on who would bear responsibility for paying artists who may have contributed to a record — it wanted to ensure that the people it already pays money to directly, assumed the responsibility for issuing payments to whoever else the new …

Rishi Sunak packages U-turns as challenges to consensus politics – an improbable effort to rebrand as the candidate for change

Rishi Sunak packages U-turns as challenges to consensus politics – an improbable effort to rebrand as the candidate for change

The party conference speech is traditionally an important moment for political leaders. It enables them to set the agenda, rally the core membership and supporters around key themes, and speak to the wider audience of electors. The Conservative party has now had five different party leaders giving conference speeches as prime minister at this time of year since 2015. This is the third party leader to give a speech in the past three years. Rishi Sunak’s first party leader speech may indeed be his only one if the election is called before October 2024 and he is removed from office and the leadership. Having lost the 2022 party leadership contest to Liz Truss, then, after her brief tenure, becoming party leader and prime minister without any further general or party leader election, Sunak has no electoral mandate to draw on. With a general election within a year, the party conference speech offers the opportunity to set out a narrative and present personal credentials to party and the electorate. Takeover prime ministers do, however, struggle to …

Unity U-turns on controversial runtime fee and begs forgiveness

Unity U-turns on controversial runtime fee and begs forgiveness

Unity has done a 180 on a controversial new pricing scheme that users of its cross-platform game engine almost unanimously disparaged. A new pricing policy is still incoming, but it’s far less fraught for independent developers, many of whom threatened to leave the engine and platform behind rather than pay. The changes were announced only last week, and immediately attracted the ire of nearly everyone in the gaming community, prompting a panicked “clarification” soft-pedaling of the “runtime fee” that would be owed with every install of a game past a certain level of revenue. The plan was intensely unpopular, as apart the increased costs many would incur under it, it suggested that the people running the show at Unity were completely disconnected from the community. Less than two weeks from its debut, however, the runtime fee policy has been almost completely reversed and its architects are abasing themselves before their customers. Unity Create head Marc Whitten posted an apologetic note detailing the changes. I want to start with this: I am sorry. We should have …
