guiding vaccination policy during COVID-19 through direct knowledge transfer – Evidence & Policy Blog

Katie Attwell, Tauel Harper and Chris Blyth This blog post is based on the Evidence & Policy article, ‘Facilitating knowledge transfer during Australia’s COVID-19 vaccine rollout: an examination of ‘Functional Dialogues’ as an approach to bridge the evidence–policy gap’. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, we wanted to use our skills to help with the eventual vaccine rollout. Chris was already well-placed to do so. As Chair of Australia’s Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI), he had years of experience in aspects of vaccine policymaking. Katie was an emerging leader in vaccination social science and policy, and, like Chris, she had strong connections in the Western Australian Department of Health. They knew that the team focused on administering Australia’s National Immunisation Program would have their hands full with supporting the existing programme during COVID-19 times. How could they also prepare for a pandemic vaccine rollout? Katie put together an interdisciplinary team to help, bringing in Chris as co-lead. They recruited Tauel for his communications expertise. Other researchers were chosen for their skills in qualitative research, law …

Football player transfer rules ruled offside by top EU court – POLITICO

Football player transfer rules ruled offside by top EU court – POLITICO

Judges said the rules “impede the free movement of professional footballers” and “are similar to a no-poach agreement.” While some restrictions could be justified, these “do not appear to be indispensable or necessary,” they said. “Those rules impose considerable legal risks, unforeseeable and potentially very high financial risks as well as major sporting risks on those players and clubs wishing to employ them which, taken together, are such as to impede international transfers of those players,” the court said in a statement. They also “have as their object the restriction, and even prevention, of cross-border competition which could be pursued by all clubs established in the European Union, by unilaterally recruiting players under contract with another club or players,” it said. “The possibility of competing by recruiting trained players plays an essential role in the professional football sector,” it said. “Rules which place a general restriction on that form of competition, by immutably fixing the distribution of workers between the employers and in cloistering the markets, are similar to a no-poach agreement,” it said. FIFA …

Apple Music now lets subscribers transfer playlists to (and later on, from) YouTube Music

Westend61/Getty Images Thanks to a recent update, Apple Music subscribers can now transfer playlists to a YouTube Music profile. This new feature was introduced very quietly, as Apple didn’t make an announcement through their usual avenues. We only learned about the tool after people discovered changes made to one of the company’s support documents. Subscribers will need to meet certain requirements before migrating anything over. First off, you’ll need either an Apple Music or iTunes Match subscription. Users also need an active YouTube Music account. Fortunately, you don’t need a YouTube Music subscription, so at least moving playlists won’t be a pricey endeavor.  Also: How to get an Apple Music student discount subscription Assuming you have everything in order, Apple says to head over to their Data and Privacy page, log into your Apple ID account, then select “Transfer a copy of your data”. On the following screen is the option to move playlists from Apple Music to YouTube Music. Reportedly, this process can take some time to complete. And you’ll receive an email at the …

FIFA should lose EU legal dispute over player transfer rules, court aide says – POLITICO

FIFA should lose EU legal dispute over player transfer rules, court aide says – POLITICO

The Court of Justice is ruling on a dispute from an unidentified professional player based in Paris whose contract at Russian football club Lokomotiv Moscow was terminated after one year over an alleged breach of its terms. The player challenged the decision in court in Belgium after a potential deal with Belgium’s Sporting du Pays de Charleroi fell through because of the FIFA rules. He is seeking €6 million in damages and loss of income. The EU court must rule on points of EU law to advise Belgian judges who will handle the final decision. “There can be little doubt as to the restrictive nature” of FIFA’s regulation on the status and transfer of players, Szpunar said in his opinion. “By their very nature, the contested provisions limit the possibility for players to switch clubs and, conversely, for (new) clubs to hire players, in a situation where a player has terminated his or her contract without just cause,” he said. “The contested provisions, by limiting clubs’ ability to recruit players, necessarily affect competition between clubs …

Brandeis invites Jewish students to transfer in response to campus protests

(RNS) — As pro-Palestinian protests swamp universities around the country, from Columbia to MIT to UCLA, Brandeis University announced Monday (April 22) that it would be extending its deadline for transfer applications, specifically encouraging Jewish students feeling uncomfortable at their current universities to apply.  “Students elsewhere should know we welcome all — Jews and students from every background — who seek an excellent undergraduate education and an environment striving to be free of harassment and Jew-hatred to apply,” Brandeis President Ron Liebowitz said in a statement. The message, released as Passover was about to start, came as Columbia University shut down its campus and moved classes online as protesters camped in the university’s quadrangle and led demonstrations against Israel’s war in Gaza and the university’s ties to Israeli institutions.  While student protesters have maintained that the encampment has been peaceful and free of antisemitism — noting that it held Shabbat dinners and even a Passover Seder for participating Jewish students — campus Jewish leaders at Columbia have reported incidents of harassment.  Outside of the campus, …
