Which Hoka Black Friday deal should you buy? I’ve tried three top options—here’s what I recommend

Which Hoka Black Friday deal should you buy? I’ve tried three top options—here’s what I recommend

Hoka makes excellent shoes that are perfect for all sorts of athletic activities. I’ve been fortunate enough to test several models, and every single one has made it into my guide to the best walking shoes. The Hoka Bondi 8 topped the list for most of 2024, only recently supplanted by my new favorite the Brooks Glycerin Max. I also tested the Hoka Clifton 9, which I rate as the best shoe for walking on concrete, and the Hoka Transport, which is my favorite slip-on shoe. All of these models have been reduced in the Black Friday fitness sales, which is excellent news if you need a new running or walking shoe. But which one should you choose? Black Friday Hoka deals Which Hoka should you buy? Both the Clifton 9 and Bondi 8 are designed to be road running shoes, but if you’re a keen runner, I think the Clifton 9 would be a better choice of the two. When running in the Bondi 8, I found the wide crash pad (which I love …

More ‘outstanding’ schools keep top grade, but why?

More ‘outstanding’ schools keep top grade, but why?

Leaders of ‘outstanding’ schools downgraded immediately after the Ofsted exemption was axed in 2020 say they have been unfairly disadvantaged after new figures show a boom in the proportion keeping their top rating. Between 2012 and 2020, ‘outstanding’ mainstream schools were exempt from routine inspection. More than 80 per cent lost their badge in the year after the exemption was lifted. But last year 40 per cent of those schools kept their top grade, figures released this week show. The data is from the final year before headline grades were axed. Asked to explain the increase, Ofsted said there was “no clear reason”. But it was “possible (but not provable) that our series of events for outstanding schools may have been a contributing factor”. National events, held during the summer term of 2023, aimed to help ‘outstanding’ schools better understand the 2019 framework and its curriculum emphasis. But others say different. ‘No flexibility or understanding’ after Covid Halstow Primary in Greenwich, south London, and part of the Compass Partnership, was downgraded to ‘good’ in 2021. …

Top 10 Depictions of the Annunciation in Art

The history of art is full of pieces inspired by religion. This makes sense of course, since religion was an integral part of the human experience, interwoven throughout society in nearly every aspect. One of the most famous religious tales is that of the Annunciation. This is a Christian story in which the angel Gabriel visits the Virgin Mary to inform her that God has chosen her to be the mother of Christ.   10. The Annunciation by Jan Van Eyck The Annunciation by Jan Van Eyck, 1434-36. Source: The National Gallery of Art, Washington   The Annunciation by Jan Van Eyck was the left panel of a triptych when it was first created. The painting is a testament to Van Eyck’s skill with oil paints. Oil paint made realism easier to produce on a canvas, as it dried slowly and was translucent, meaning it could be layered and blended to create realistic representations. In fact, Jan Van Eyck is often attributed to the invention of oil paint. However, the first recorded instance of …

Three sentenced to death in Iran over killing of top nuclear scientist | News

Three suspects are accused of involvement in the murder of scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh and spying for Israel. Iran’s judiciary says three people have been sentenced to death after a court found them guilty of spying for Israel and involvement in the killing of a top nuclear scientist. Mohsen Fakhrizadeh was killed when his car was ambushed on a highway outside the capital in November 2020. “The preliminary legal proceedings took place in Urmia, where these individuals were sentenced to execution; the case is currently in the appeals process,” Asghar Jahangir, spokesman of the Iranian judiciary, told a news conference in Tehran on Tuesday. “After some investigations, three people out of eight arrested in West Azarbaijan province, were accused of committing espionage for the occupying regime of Israel,” Jahangir said. He added that the three are also “accused of transporting equipment into Iran for the assassination of martyr Fakhrizadeh under the guise of smuggling alcoholic beverages”. The decision came following a “comprehensive investigation”, the Iranian official said, adding that charges against four other suspects are under …
