Boss Cuts Worker’s Hours When He Refuses To Cancel Vacation Because His Pre-Approved Time Off Was Denied

Boss Cuts Worker’s Hours When He Refuses To Cancel Vacation Because His Pre-Approved Time Off Was Denied

An employee admitted that he was baffled after his boss both reprimanded him for and refused to let him use his PTO.  Posting to the subreddit “r/AmITheJerk” — an online public forum where individuals can share either personal anecdotes or conflicts that have happened to other people to see who was in the wrong — the 20-year-old man claimed that he and his boss, Susan, were involved in a bit of an argument after she told him that his PTO request was “last minute” after he’d already booked his vacation days. She told her employee that he wasn’t allowed to use his pre-approved time off. In his Reddit post, he explained that he’s been working in a store for the past two years and has never had any bad interactions or encounters with his boss until fairly recently.  It started back in January 2024 when he decided to save up so that he could take a few days of vacation with the PTO that he has. As he started to make his plans and arrangements, he made …

Childfree Woman Called Heartless For Refusing To Give Mother’s Day Off To Her Coworker Who Lost Her Child

A woman has sparked a feud with her coworkers after she refused to donate one of her vacation days to a mother who recently lost her eight-year-old son unexpectedly. She argues that she was planning on using the day in question to catch up on studying for her finals. However, her coworkers are calling her “heartless.” Now, she is wondering if she should have given the vacation day to the grieving mother while she chose another day to take off.  It was her coworker’s first Mother’s Day without her son after his sudden passing.  Sharing her story to the Reddit forum, r/AmITheA–hole, the 22-year-old woman sought the advice of other users regarding the situation. She began her post by revealing that she is a full-time student who works part-time. Last year, one of her coworkers, whom she refers to as “Linda” tragically lost her eight-year-old son in an accident. The loss affected the entire staff. “We were terribly heartbroken because we had met the kid a bunch of times before since she was a single mother and …

Employee Explains How He Was Blackmailed By His Boss Into Missing His College Roommate’s Wedding

Employee Explains How He Was Blackmailed By His Boss Into Missing His College Roommate’s Wedding

After an employee was promised time off to attend his college roommate’s wedding, he was approached by his boss and warned that taking time off could jeopardize his job. However, the employee soon discovered that he was better off going to the wedding than prioritizing the position.  The employee claimed that he was ‘blackmailed’ by his boss to work the day of his friend’s wedding despite being promised that time off.  Sharing his story to the r/antiwork subreddit, the employee revealed that he previously worked at a university in the southern United States, where he was hired to build sets for the theatre department.  “Part of this lateral hire was the stipulation that I was going to be gone for a set long weekend in the spring for my college roommate’s wedding,” the man wrote. However, things didn’t go quite as planned. “Well, as it turns out, that school year was going to be incredibly rough on the theatre department, and I would be left alone to build eight fully backed shows after also contracting COVID and pneumonia,” he …

Boss Requires Detailed Explanation Of Every Vacation Request

Boss Requires Detailed Explanation Of Every Vacation Request

At all too many jobs, simply asking for time off is a hassle. But for one worker on Reddit, her boss’ vacation policy is downright intrusive in a way that seems like it should be illegal.  Her boss requires a detailed explanation of every vacation request before he approves. This ridiculous situation may sound shocking, but it’s sadly in line with America’s approach toward vacation time overall. A 2023 Pew Research survey found that nearly half of American workers don’t use all the vacation time they’re given because they’re afraid of how it will affect their reputation and workload. 12% even said their boss had actively discouraged them from taking vacation. RELATED: Woman Forced To Go Into The Office To ‘Collaborate’ With Coworkers Realizes She’s The Only One Not Working From Home This worker’s boss, though, takes things to an extreme. Rather than outright telling employees he doesn’t want them taking a vacation, he instead makes the process of getting time off approved insufferable, intrusive, and uncomfortable. This boss requires documentation of things like itineraries and flight numbers to …

Working Mom Says She Was Written Up For Using 3 Unplanned Sick Days In 6 Months

Working Mom Says She Was Written Up For Using 3 Unplanned Sick Days In 6 Months

A working mother named Jordan Fairchild tearfully admitted that it’s a struggle to balance a full-time job while caring for her children and being there as a parent. In a TikTok video, Fairchild shared that she was reprimanded by the higher-ups at her job because of how many sick days she’d used in the last several months when she or her children were sick, despite having accrued the time off. She was given a ‘verbal warning’ for using 3 ‘unplanned’ sick days in the last 6 months. Fairchild explained that she just had her annual review at work, and while the review itself was fine, she got a verbal warning that she had to sign. The warning was because Fairchild had used three unplanned sick days over the past six months — two of them being because her children were sick and one because she was. “They basically threw the book at me and said this is our attendance policy and because you had three unplanned absences, you have to sign this document,” Fairchild recalled. “I think this plays …

Employee Who Missed A Day Of Work After A House Fire Was Told He Would Not Be Paid Because He Was Not Technically Sick

Employee Who Missed A Day Of Work After A House Fire Was Told He Would Not Be Paid Because He Was Not Technically Sick

After an employee lost nearly everything in a tragic house fire, he understandably had to take a day off of work to sift through the rubble and come to terms with what happened. However, his boss was less than sympathetic toward his situation, refusing to compensate him for the time he had no choice but to take off.  The employee’s boss notified him that he would not be paid for his time off after the house fire since he ‘technically’ wasn’t sick.  Ben Askins, a content creator who often shares employee’s mind-boggling stories involving their bosses, took to TikTok to share the man’s unfortunate circumstances.  “Last year, I had a house fire and lost the contents of my bedroom. Clothes, bed, everything,” the man wrote. “The house was full of smoke damage and needed cleaning and redecorating.”  The man, a full-time employee, did not go to work the day after the fire as he had nothing to wear and had to clean out the house. His boss later informed him that that day’s pay would be subtracted from his salary for …

Boss Tries To Cancel Employee’s Approved PTO After A Coworker Resigns

Boss Tries To Cancel Employee’s Approved PTO After A Coworker Resigns

A boss has come under scrutiny after attempting to dissuade an employee from using his approved time off because of an unexpected staff shortage. In a TikTok video, content creator and business expert Michael Sanz, who often posts career tips, shared a conversation between a boss and his employee that elicited a strong reaction from viewers. After a coworker resigned, the boss tried to cancel an employee’s approved PTO because they needed ‘all hands on deck.’ “You will not believe this message I’ve just been sent,” Sanz incredulously began in his video. In a text to his employee Noel, a boss named Nick explained that his coworker, Jenny, recently resigned and Noel would need to cancel his upcoming approved leave because they would need “all hands on deck” to combat Jenny’s sudden exit. “We can push back a few months. I’ve advised HR, and it’s now changed for you. Appreciate your understanding,” Nick’s message read. Sanz acknowledged that he already sounded like a bad boss, as he canceled his employee’s leave without so much as a conversation.  …
