The commitment, which Sunak insisted would not require spending cuts or tax rises, would bring the U.K.’s annual defense spending to £87 billion in 2030-31. NATO countries are expected to spend 2 percent of their GDP on defense, with 18 members currently on track to do so. Germany hit that target for the first time this year. Former U.S. president and current candidate Donald Trump has suggested he wouldn’t protect countries failing to hit the target if they’re attacked, reigniting debate about defense spend in Europe. In a statement accompanying Sunak’s announcement, No.10 Downing Street said: “If all NATO countries committed at least 2.5 percent of their GDP to defense, our collective budget would increase by more than £140 billion.” The new package will include an investment of an extra £10 billion over the next decade on munitions production and “radical” reforms of Britain’s defense procurement procedures, the British government said. (RNS) — A lawsuit accusing music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs of sexual harassment, illegal drug activity and sex trafficking cites Bishop T.D. Jakes as someone who the rapper hoped would help improve his image. The plaintiff is Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones, a music producer who the suit alleges has photo and other evidence of Combs’ activities. Jakes, a Dallas-based megachurch pastor, is not among the defendants in the suit, which include several record labels and actor Cuba Gooding Jr. as well as Combs’ son Justin Dior Combs and chief of staff Kristina Khorram. Jakes is mentioned once in a lengthy suit that describes Jones as a victim of sexual harassment and assault by the elder Combs.  The suit, filed in a New York federal court in late March, alleges Jones has “irrefutable evidence” of Combs “detailing how he planned to leverage his relationship with Bishop T.D. Apple has gotten used to being a favorite target of rivals and government agencies. The company has been repeatedly scrutinized by regulators around the world, and other tech companies have accused the company of anticompetitive practices. Apple’s most recent legal challenge is a doozy: an antitrust lawsuit filed by the US Department of Justice and more than a dozen state attorneys general. The suit takes aim at the security and privacy features offered only on the iPhone, and accuses Apple of using that exclusivity to lock consumers into its ecosystem. At the center of the suit is the lack of cross-platform encryption on Apple’s messaging platform—the green-bubble-blue-bubble divide—which the government alleges harms consumers by leaving them more vulnerable to attacks. The actress shared a behind-the-scenes tour of the Atlanta set where she is currently filming the upcoming Thunderbolts on Wednesday. “Hey guys, how are you doing? I know I’ve dropped off for a little bit, but that’s partially because I was whisked off to Atlanta to shoot a movie that I’m not really supposed to talk about,” Pugh said in a video posted to Instagram. “But I can show you things, sneakily, as long as you don’t tell anyone … I can show you a sneak peek of the set.” Pugh plays assassin Yelena Belova in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Her character first appeared in 2021’s Black Widow and later in the Disney+ series Hawkeye. Why would the most notoriously cash-strapped man in America waste money on frivolous lawsuits? On Monday, Donald Trump—whose lawyers recently announced that he can’t come up with the money to post a $454 million bond in his civil fraud case—fired off yet another suit against a news organization that reported facts he didn’t like. The targets this time are ABC News and its anchor George Stephanopoulos, who Trump alleges defamed him by stating that Trump had been found liable for raping E. Jean Carroll. The case looks like a sure loser. Trump was technically found liable under New York law for sexual abuse, not for rape, but the judge in the civil case ruled that, by forcibly penetrating Carroll’s vagina with his fingers, “Mr. Trump in fact did ‘rape’ Ms. Carroll as that term commonly is used and understood.” But no matter. The Stephanopoulos suit slots into a well-worn groove for Trump, who for years has lodged periodic lawsuits against alleged purveyors of “fake news” about him.
