Strategic spatial plan to transform UK energy infrastructure

Strategic spatial plan to transform UK energy infrastructure

The UK Government is accelerating its mission to become a global clean energy superpower by developing a comprehensive plan to reshape the nation’s energy infrastructure. This strategic move to optimise UK energy infrastructure is designed to fast-track the transition from fossil fuels and create a robust, sustainable energy system that benefits both the economy and the environment. Minister for Energy Michael Shanks explained: “To help drive growth and investment in our clean energy future, we need to provide investors with the long-term certainty and stability that they have been crying out for. “That’s why we need a more strategic approach to our energy system, ensuring we can quickly scale up investment in the right infrastructure where we need it to keep costs down and speed up our transition to clean power. “Delivering the country’s first-ever spatial plan will be a major milestone for our new public energy body.” Long-term stability for investors and communities To ensure the UK’s energy transition is smooth and sustainable, the newly formed National Energy System Operator (NESO) has been tasked …

The Apple Vision Pro may have tanked — but spatial computing is still the future, Deloitte says

The Apple Vision Pro may have tanked — but spatial computing is still the future, Deloitte says

Join us in returning to NYC on June 5th to collaborate with executive leaders in exploring comprehensive methods for auditing AI models regarding bias, performance, and ethical compliance across diverse organizations. Find out how you can attend here. The tech world couldn’t wait for the rollout of the Apple Vision Pro — but the response has been underwhelming and blasé, with users complaining about dizziness, headaches and the overall goofy feeling they get wearing it.  Reviews have also been mixed about the Meta Quest Pro, Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses and rabbit R1, while the Humane AI pin is said to be “bad at almost everything.” All of this might make it seem like spatial computing or the seamless convergence of physical and digital worlds, is just a sci-fi pipe dream.  Not true, argues Deloitte. Spatial computing will be the next level of interaction, the firm argues in a new Dichotomies whitepaper out today.  GB Event Countdown to GamesBeat Summit Secure your spot now and join us in LA for an unforgettable two days experience exploring …

LG TVs now support spatial audio via Apple Music – here’s how to get the new feature

LG TVs now support spatial audio via Apple Music – here’s how to get the new feature

Kerry Wan/ZDNET If you own an LG television and use Apple Music, today is your lucky day. The company announced that its TVs are the first to gain support for spatial audio through Apple Music with Dolby Atmos. The feature is already starting to roll out to compatible TVs, which — LG says — include its OLED and QNED models. Also: The 5 best LG TVs you can buy Initially, spatial audio was available exclusively through Apple’s devices, but in 2021, the company added the feature to its Apple Music app for Android. LG’s webOS now becomes the second third-party operating system to pick up the feature. It’s a nice addition to the Apple Music experience on TVs, although we don’t know how good it will sound given that spatial audio mixes are often hit or miss. According to LG, spatial audio will work with the built-in speakers on your TV, as well as compatible Dolby Atmos-enabled LG soundbars. If you use a soundbar, it will automatically tune the volume of the mix so everything …

Particles move in beautiful patterns when they have ‘spatial memory’

Particles move in beautiful patterns when they have ‘spatial memory’

A beautiful and surprisingly complex pattern produced by ‘mathematical billiards’ Albers et al. PRL 2024 In a mathematical version of billiards, particles that avoid retracing their paths get trapped in intricate and hard to predict patterns – which might eventually help us understand the complex movement patterns of living organisms. When searching for food, animals including ants and slime moulds leave chemical trails in their environment, which helps them avoid accidentally retracing their steps. This behaviour is not uncommon in biology, but when Maziyar Jalaal at the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands and his colleagues… Source link

Testing the New Apple Vision Pro Spatial Persona

Testing the New Apple Vision Pro Spatial Persona

As of this week, Apple Vision Pro users can set up a spatial Persona, which is a new version of a Persona that’s designed to make it feel like you’re interfacing with other people right in the same room. We thought we’d test out the spatial Persona feature to see how it works and whether it’s an improvement over the regular Persona option. Spatial Personas have a translucent background and include the head, hands, and top part of the torso to provide a more natural feel so that it seems like the people in the conversation are in the same physical room with one another. With spatial Personas, people can move about in their real world space, and that’s reflected in the virtual setting. Persona location is the same for all people on a call, so if there are five participants, each one has a different location just as they would sitting together in a room. If you look at or point to someone on the call, the other participants can see where you are …

Apple adds spatial Personas to the Vision Pro. Here’s how to try the feature

Apple adds spatial Personas to the Vision Pro. Here’s how to try the feature

Jason Hiner/ZDNET Apple has added spatial Personas to the Apple Vision Pro‘s Persona beta, letting up to five participants interact with each other in a virtual environment. By showing an interactive virtual rendering of a user, leveraging spatial audio, and keeping track of where everyone is in the virtual space, spatial Personas makes the Apple Vision Pro an even more immersive experience. Vision Pro users can engage friends, family, and coworkers with Vision Pro headsets to perform actions together through FaceTime, like writing or drawing on Freeform, watching movies, or playing games as if they were hanging out in the same room.  Also: Apple Vision Pro is on sale for the first time ever, but there’s a catch Apple explains that SharePlay-enabled apps let all users interact with VR content collaboratively while still maintaining some control over their individual viewing experience. Users can reposition content to their liking without affecting other users’ experiences. With spatial audio, Vision Pro users can also keep track of other Personas’ direction and distance in the virtual space. Also: I …

Spatial Personas Coming to Apple Vision Pro in Beta Today

Spatial Personas Coming to Apple Vision Pro in Beta Today

Apple today announced that Spatial Personas are now available for all Vision Pro users in a public beta. Apple previewed Spatial Personas at WWDC last year. Unlike the existing Personas feature, which is confined to a tile and facial expressions only, Spatial Personas allow Vision Pro users to “break out of the familiar FaceTime tile and feel more present, like they are gathered in the same physical space.” They feature a transparent background and are able to show body language and additional movement such as hand gestures for a more lifelike experience. I tried Spatial Persona on Apple Vision Pro yesterday. I watched a movie trailer with several other Personas in Apple TV, examined a 3D jet turbine in JigSpace, collaborated on a whiteboard in Freemform, and played Hearts in Game Room. It was pretty cool! The feature is available during ‌FaceTime‌ calls and supports up to …

App Shoots Better Quality Spatial Video Than iPhone’s Camera App

$3 App Shoots Better Quality Spatial Video Than iPhone’s Camera App

A $3 third-party app can now record spatial video on iPhone 15 Pro models in a higher resolution than Apple’s very own Camera app. Thanks to an update first spotted by UploadVR, Spatialify can now record spatial videos with HDR in 1080p at 60fps or in 4K at 30fps. In comparison, Apple’s native Camera app is limited to recording spatial video in 1080p at 30fps. Shortly after Apple’s Vision Pro headset launched in February in the United States, Apple released iOS 17.2, which brought the new spatial video recording format to iPhone 15 Pro models. When viewed on iPhone, spatial video appear as normal videos, but viewed on Vision Pro they provide an immersive viewing experience on Vision Pro that is almost three-dimensional. Combined with advanced computational videography techniques and HEVC compression, spatial videos filmed at 30fps in 1080p take up around 130MB of storage space for one minute of video, so bear that in mind when shooting using Spatialify’s higher resolution options, which will take up substantially more storage. Spatialify first made headlines back …
