One of the best looks yet at the rear design and increased size of Apple’s iPhone 16 models was today shared online. The images, posted on X by Sonny Dickson, show four dummy models representing the ‌iPhone 16‌, iPhone 16 Pro, ‌iPhone 16‌ Plus, and ‌iPhone 16 Pro‌ Max. These units are designed to take the place of real devices for display or testing purposes. The dummy models provide a clear look at the slightly larger size of the ‌iPhone 16 Pro‌ and ‌iPhone 16 Pro‌ Max, which are expected increase from 6.1- to 6.3-inches and 6.7- to 6.9-inches, and how they compare to the other models in the lineup. Apple hasn’t even announced the iPhone 16 yet, but we’re already starting to hear about its plans for the iPhone 17, which will likely launch in 2025. Longtime supply-chain analyst Ross Young posted on X on Wednesday that he’d heard that the iPhone 17 Plus will come with a smaller screen than the 6.7-inch display on the current-generation iPhone 15 Plus. The post was written about earlier by MacRumors. Apple didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment. Apple changing the screen size of its iPhones wouldn’t be much of a surprise, though it is noteworthy. The company has always seemed comfortable fiddling with screen sizes, particularly as its product lineup expanded from one iPhone each year to multiple models, starting with the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in 2014. Tesla is having to “recall” over 2 million vehicles, but again, the fix is just a software update and this time, it’s about font sizes. Seriously. I opened the Wall Street Journal today, and bang: Tesla recalls millions of vehicles over latest safety flaw: Millions of vehicles? Safety flaw? Oh lord, this seems like a big deal, but then I remembered it’s the Wall Street Journal, and they like to scare you about the smallest software updates possible. This is one of those cases. NHTSA issued a recall notice for all Tesla vehicles due to the font size of its warning light indicators: A visual warning indicator whose letter font size is smaller than 3.2 mm (1/8 inch), as prescribed in FMVSS Nos. 105 and 135, could reduce the driver’s detection of it when illuminated, increasing the risk of a collision. OLED displays for both of Apple’s next-generation iPad Pro models will have entered the production phase this week in time for device shipments to begin in April, claims a new report by The Elec. According to the Korean-language outlet, LG Display recently began manufacturing the thin film transistor (TFT) for the new 13-inch ‌iPad Pro‌ displays, while Samsung will this week similarly kickstart its own TFT production for the new 11-inch ‌iPad Pro‌. The TFT essentially acts as a switch to turn off and turn on individual OLED pixels. Finished 11-inch and 13-inch OLED iPad Pro models are expected to go into mass production around March, in time for a scheduled release in April, according to today’s report. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has said he expects the new ‌‌iPad Pro‌‌ models to launch in the second quarter of 2024, which runs from April to June.
