Southern rail and Thameslink suffer ‘major signalling fault’ with travel delays expected | UK News

Southern rail and Thameslink services suffered a “major signalling fault” – meaning some commuters are facing train delays and cancellations this morning. At around 4am on Monday, both Southern rail and Thameslink warned their customers they had suffered a “major signalling fault” on their networks and “no trains” would be running until further notice. Passengers were warned “do not travel”. By 7am, some services had resumed – however, Gatwick Express trains are not running, and all services between Littlehampton and London Victoria have been cancelled. The disruption is expected to last until 3pm. Reduced services are operating between Three Bridges and Brighton, and Brighton and Chichester. Passengers on these routes have been asked to delay travel until later or allow “at least” an extra 60 minutes for journeys. Queuing systems may be in place at some stations and services which are running are likely to be “extremely busy,” Southern has warned. With a heavy workload pushing through EU laws, members of the European parliament know a thing or two about amendments. But an unscheduled Mickey Mouse experience on their way to Strasbourg on Monday morning was something of a first. A French train carrying hundreds of MEPs and their teams from Brussels ended up by accident at Marne-la-Vallée, the stop for Disneyland Paris. Instead of the rolling hills that usually greet them as they head to the Alsatian city, MEPs were caught between the Art of Marvel and Main Street USA, with Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain and Peter Pan’s Flight in the near distance. Emmanuel Foulon, who works with the parliament’s press team, wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “‘When magic comes to life’ – will Disney’s slogan soon be that of the European Parliament?” Passengers on the train, told that the diversion was due to an “error in the route”, were quick to see the funny side, prompting Disneyland to trend briefly on social media in the Belgian capital.
