Will ‘sigh of relief’ after US supreme court gun ruling be short-lived? | US supreme court

The US supreme court decided to uphold a 30-year-old federal law prohibiting subjects of domestic violence restraining orders (DVROs) from possessing guns. In Friday’s 8-1 decision, the justices – all save Clarence Thomas – agreed that Zackey Rahimi’s constitutional rights were not violated when his guns were confiscated following a lengthy history of gun crimes and abuse against his then girlfriend and mother of his child. While the ruling is not a surprise to many experts who heard the 7 November 2023 oral argument, it represents a small victory for those who advocate for protection orders like DVROs and work with survivors of domestic abuse. “I think we’re all breathing a sigh of relief that the court did not decide to put more people in direct risk of being killed or seriously injured,” said Kelly Roskam, director of law and policy for the Johns Hopkins Center for Gun Violence Solutions. “There seemed to be a general acceptance among the justices that there is this national historical tradition of disarming people who are dangerous.” The case …

Apple Butter Cafe, London W1: ‘Food to make a diabetes doctor sigh anxiously’ – restaurant review | Restaurants

Apple Butter Cafe, which recently opened a second branch at the top of London’s Regent Street, is very much a cafe of its time. Today’s young may be eschewing the vices of yesteryear – booze, ciggies, drugs, etc – but their Achilles heel is sugar. Build a cafe that serves short stacks of chunky, fat pancakes smothered in banoffee syrup and topped with mini meringues, shards of tempered chocolate, quenelles of thick cream and microplaned lemon zest, and they will come. Post a video on TikTok of someone blowtorching said pancake stack, so the meringue browns and gives the whole hot mess a baked alaska vibe, however, and your customers will queue from 8am for the chance to make their own content next to the fake plastic trees “growing” inside the cafe. ‘Fortunately, the place is only a hop, skip and a jump from Harley Street’: Apple Butter Cafe’s creme brulee french toast. France breathe sigh of relief after beating Chile in friendly

France breathe sigh of relief after beating Chile in friendly

Olivier Giroud was among the scorers as France recovered from the loss of another early goal to claim a 3-2 friendly win over Chile at the Velodrome in Marseille on Tuesday. Issued on: 26/03/2024 – 23:36 2 min The Euro 2024 favourites were left reeling after conceding just eight seconds into their game against Germany in Lyon last weekend, which they went on to lose 2-0. This time they fell behind within six minutes to a Marcelino Nunez strike, but came roaring back with goals from Youssouf Fofana, Randal Kolo Muani and Giroud, before Dario Osorio grabbed a second for Chile late on. The result will ease some of the doubts which had surrounded the French team following their flat performance against Germany, as they prepare for the European Championship in June and July. However, this was far from a first-choice French side, with captain Kylian Mbappe and midfielder Aurélien Tchouameni the only players to be retained in the starting line-up as coach Didier Deschamps made nine changes. Among those to come in were the Marseille …

Sigh – It Turns Out We're All Peeing Wrong

The unrecognized man sits on a commode and reaches for toilet paper. We’re all guilty of doing it now and then, but holding in your pee when you need to go is doing more than causing short-term discomfort, according to experts.  According to the Bladder & Bowel Community, the average person pees around 6-7 times a day but if you find for you that it’s less, or that you hold it in until the last minute, you may be putting yourself at risk of infection.  Dr Rebecca Smith, a family medicine specialist said, “Abnormally holding urine can cause an increase in bacterial load and increased incidence of urinary tract infections, or UTIs, for people of all ages.” She added, “Most commonly, if someone isn’t able to urinate, the urine backs up and causes swelling of the kidneys and often infection. This can damage the kidneys, and the infection can spread to the bloodstream and become very serious if the urinary obstruction is not relieved.” Yikes. The risks of holding in pee Additionally, according to the …

Twitter’s new dog icon is sending dogecoin — sigh — to the moon

Today Twitter users are noticing that an image of a dog has been added to a place of prominence. You can see it for yourself on Twitter.com, where you will be greeted with a pup: The particular dog image — a shiba inu — corresponds with the logo of the dogecoin blockchain and cryptocurrency. Normally the swapping out or addition of an icon inside an app is not news. In this case cryptocurrency investors sent the value of dogecoin sharply higher in the wake of the inclusion of its logo in Twitter’s app. In short, the social media service’s update has led to a pump. Here’s what dogecoin’s price has done in the wake of the dog’s inclusion: Look I don’t want to live on this planet any longer either. The greater context for this latest bit of Twitter-silliness is that the owner of the social media service Elon Musk is in court over dogecoin, looking to dismiss a massive suit relating to the cryptocurrency. In that suit, Musk’s lawyers recently called dogecoin a “legitimate …
