The GQ Guide to Shopping Banana Republic in 2024

The GQ Guide to Shopping Banana Republic in 2024

For those that haven’t checked GQ.com recently, Banana Republic is, quite simply, very good again. There are multiple reasons for the brand’s resurgence, but the short version goes like this: a couple of years ago, the big-box retailer started mining its storied archive, embraced the styles that made it a household name in the first place, applied some of the world’s finest fabrics to those exact styles, and proceeded to drop a whole slew of them every season since. These days, the brand shows no sign of easing up. Looking for some Rat Pack-worthy polos in surprisingly luxe blends? Banana Republic has you covered. Voluminous pleated trousers with just the right kind of drape? Ditto. Summer knits that will age infinitely better than the weekend decisions you make while wearing them? A seemingly endless supply, each rendered in more dazzling fabrications than the last. PRODUCT QUICK LINK LIST Luxurious Knits We’ve been consistently impressed with Banana Republic’s knitwear program and it’s undoubtedly among the best things that the brand has to offer. Teacher Secretly Sold His Students’ Art on Mugs and Shirts, Lawsuit Says

Teacher Secretly Sold His Students’ Art on Mugs and Shirts, Lawsuit Says

In January, students at a junior high school outside Montreal received an assignment to draw a classmate or a self-portrait in the style of Jean-Michel Basquiat. “The challenge is to make an original artwork in Basquiat’s style; not to copy one of his images,” the teacher, Mario Perron, wrote to his students on the junior campus at Westwood High School in St.-Lazare, Quebec. “I am very familiar with Basquiat’s work and will return copied work, because it is considered plagiarism.” The assignment was titled “Creepy Portrait.” Basquiat was a worthy subject: He was the influential Brooklyn-born artist of Haitian and Puerto Rican descent who was known for a brief career in which he innovated with graffiti and other types of improvisational pieces. He died at 27 in 1988. But parents of some students who completed the assignment were shocked to find that Mr. Perron had copied the portraits and was offering mugs, cushions, bags, apparel and other items for sale online bearing reproductions of the artwork, according to a class-action lawsuit filed last week in …

Food delivery app Zomato’s CEO Deepinder Goyal announced the company’s intention to launch a “pure veg fleet” – which will deliver vegetarian food only from restaurants that do not cook egg, fish, or meat – in a post on X/Twitter on Tuesday. His post was accompanied by photos of Zomato agents who would deliver the food wearing green shirts in place of the usual red. They were also seen carrying green bags instead of Zomato’s red. But on Wednesday Mr Goyal said in an update that Zomato has decided to remove the “on-ground segregation” after multiple people on social media pointed out how the colours could potentially be used to target people who ate meat. …

Zoë Kravitz Jokes About Dad Lenny’s See-Through Shirts At Walk Of Fame Ceremony

Lenny Kravitz was honoured this week with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame — and some playful roasting from his daughter. The musician was joined by actor Zoë Kravitz on Tuesday as he received the 2,774th star at the Los Angeles attraction. In a speech, the Batman leading lady delivered a heartfelt tribute to her dad, but the moment wasn’t complete without her sneaking in a few unexpected jabs. “Lenny Kravitz, I’ve had the pleasure of knowing you for a long time, and I must say, being your daughter has been one of the great adventures of my life,” Zoë Kravitz began. “Since you were so young when I was born, in many ways, we’ve grown up together,” she said. The Fly Away singer was only 24 years old when he and then-wife Lisa Bonet welcomed Zoë Kravitz in 1988. “We’ve been through a lot. We’ve seen a lot. I’ve seen a lot,” she continued. “I’ve seen you change in the most beautiful ways. I’ve seen the way you’ve stayed the same in …

Zoë Kravitz Hilariously Roasts Dad Lenny and His See-Through Shirts at Walk of Fame Ceremony

Lenny Kravitz officially has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame! On Tuesday, the 59-year-old rocker was honored with the 2,774th star located in front of the historic Capitol Records Tower in Los Angeles. As part of the ceremony, Lenny’s only child, Zoë Kravitz, took the podium to deliver a speech about her famous father, and she didn’t waste any time roasting him and his signature see-through shirts.  “Lenny Kravitz, I’ve had the pleasure of knowing you for a long time, and I must say, being your daughter has been one of the great adventures of my life. Since you were so young when I was born, in many ways, we’ve grown up together,” Zoë began.  Lenny was 24 years old when he and ex-wife Lisa Bonet welcomed Zoë on Dec. 1, 1988. “We’ve been through a lot. We’ve seen a lot. I’ve seen a lot. I’ve seen you change in the most beautiful ways. I’ve seen the way you’ve stayed the same in the most important ways. I’ve seen the way you show up and take care …

White button-down shirts and fashion on the Oscars red carpet

White button-down shirts and fashion on the Oscars red carpet

A plain white button-up shirt is not a status symbol. It doesn’t confer importance or become the subject of a cocktail party brag. It’s not a political statement or a bold choice. It’s designed to not be noticed at all. The great cultural purveyors of the white shirt — David Lynch, Fran Lebowitz — use the white shirt as the foundation of a simple, utilitarian wardrobe. However you want to define the grossly overused term “quiet luxury,” the white shirt is a staple of the trend. As usual, this year’s Academy Awards ceremony will have the white shirt at the forefront, for both men and women. It’s a black-tie affair, after all, and what goes better with a traditional black-tie event than a crisp white shirt? Shirt styles have shifted over the years, and those shifts are reflected in what you see at the Oscars. In 1972, Isaac Hayes accepted his Oscar for oringal song in a frilly lavender top that evoked both the dominant styles of the Black artistic community and the old-school white …

Tomato & Lettuce

Tomato & Lettuce

Then, everything was garnish, two kids and a house, a wife who kept the beds made, shirts ironed, secrets hidden like dust on the canned goods. What can’t be washed with vinegar— scum of the coffee pot—or set out in the sun with fresh linen my mother swears had to be ironed and I believe men made work for women, invented tile, starch, matrimony, and ama de casa to chop the tomato and lettuce sometimes in bowls, often on the side as adornment. What is the relationship between mother and daughter, tree and limb? The moment I say my memory is not of her sadness but of her laughter I’ve gotten it all wrong. The bright split of my birth was to a woman who wanted me to wear my decoration— a tree cleaned of its bark after a cool winter doesn’t forget its leaves. This poem appears in the April 2024 print edition. Source link

Astronaut Responds To Little Boy Who Threw Away His Outer Space Shirts After Being Bullied

Astronaut Responds To Little Boy Who Threw Away His Outer Space Shirts After Being Bullied

When we think of “typical” bullying, it’s the high school scene of name-calling and abuse — something almost a quarter of students still experience today. However, the truth is, that it can take many forms and avenues, from kindergartners to fully-grown adults.  “Kindergartners are brutal.” That’s exactly what big sister Meg, known as @eggiemegg_ on TikTok, captioned her video sharing the heartbreaking story of her little brother’s school day. She revealed that her “6-year-old brother came home from school and threw away all of his shirts with outer space and astronauts and planets on them.”  After being ridiculed and teased by his kindergarten classmates, the little boy felt like he had no other choice — he could only wear “cool clothes like Nike or Under Armor” if he wanted to fit in. His once-excited demeanor about space turned into resentment, breaking his sister’s heart into a million pieces. While this boy’s classmates might’ve made silly comments about his shirts or compared their own so-called cooler hobbies, the truth is, it’s just as hurtful. At such an impressionable age, kindergartners are growing into their own identities, and something as …
