Samsung stops Galaxy Buds 3 Pro shipments

A statement to Android Authority confirmed that the overall reason for the shipments’ halt was that retailers reported several quality control issues. Samsung halts shipments of Galaxy Buds 3 Pro Samsung has been battling with reports of issues since some consumers noticed that the buds could be easily torn and damaged. Biden Says U.S. Will Stop Arms Shipments If Israel Invades Rafah

The United States will stop supplying offensive weaponry to the Israelis if the country goes through with a planned invasion of the city of Rafah in the Gaza Strip, President Joe Biden said on Wednesday, a signal that he is willing to put conditions on aid to Israel for the first time and that he’s reached a major break with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. “Civilians have been killed in Gaza as a consequence of those bombs and other ways in which they go after population centres,” Biden said during an interview with CNN, acknowledging the deaths of tens of thousands of Palestinian civilians during the war launched in retaliation for Hamas’ massacre of Israelis and taking of hostages on October 7. “I made it clear that if they go into Rafah ― they haven’t gone in Rafah yet ― if they go into Rafah, I’m not supplying the weapons that have been used historically to deal with Rafah, to deal with the cities,” Biden said. Biden, long a staunch and unquestioning supporter of Israel, has …

Biden threatens to stop arm shipments if Israel invades Rafah

INCREMENTAL PRESSURE The Biden administration has previously taken smaller steps to show displeasure with Netanyahu, including imposing sanctions on extremist Israeli settlers and letting through a United Nations Security Council resolution that supported a ceasefire. Major US interventions in the past have changed Israeli behavior. In 1991, Israel begrudgingly attended the Madrid conference that led to a peace process with the Palestinians after then-president George W Bush held up US loan guarantees to build settlements. In 1956, heavy US pressure including economic threats forced Israel as well as Britain and France to give up their grab of the Suez Canal from Egypt. But experts questioned if Israel could be persuaded this time as it sees its war in existential terms after Oct 7, the deadliest attack ever on the country. “I cannot imagine American displeasure with the prospect of a Rafah invasion doesn’t loom large in the Israeli government’s calculus,” said Jon Alterman, senior vice president at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. “At the same time, Israelis have other calculations, too,” he said. …

Editorial: Biden’s limit on bomb shipments may finally get Netanyahu’s attention

In quietly halting a shipment of 2,000-pound bombs to Israel last week, President Biden at last began exercising U.S. leverage to halt a full-scale invasion of Rafah, the final refuge in Gaza for about a million Palestinians displaced by Israeli destruction elsewhere in the besieged territory. It’s the right move, even though Israel may have a sufficient stockpile from previous U.S. shipments to press forward. Biden has tried to walk a line between supporting Israel in its effort to destroy Hamas in the wake of the Oct. 7 terrorist attack that killed about 1,200 people, and pressuring Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to limit civilian casualties. Until now, that pressure came only in the form of words. The Gaza death toll is nearing 35,000, and much of the strip has been obliterated. Survivors face starvation because Israel cut off access to corridors for delivery of food and other humanitarian assistance. Pressure from Biden succeeded in reopening some aid routes, but Israel has since limited their use. Israeli has launched airstrikes in Rafah and its troops and …

US paused bomb shipments to Israel over Rafah concerns, official says

Joe Biden paused a shipment of bombs to Israel last week over fears it would invade the southern Gaza city of Rafah. Washington halted the load of 1,800 2,000-lb (907 kg) bombs and 1,700 500-lb (226 kg) bombs after Israel had not “fully addressed” US concerns about a major ground operation, marking the first time in the conflict that Mr Biden has halted military aid. News of the move comes as the White House criticised the “unacceptable” closure of the Rafah border crossing with Egypt after Israel sent tanks in earlier Tuesday – while holding out hope for a ceasefire with Hamas. Officials said Washington was “especially focused” on the use of the heaviest 2,000-lb bombs “and the impact they could have in dense urban settings as we have seen in other parts of Gaza.” Ceasefire talks involving Israel, Hamas, the United States, Qatar and Egypt resumed on Tuesday. “A close assessment of the two sides’ positions suggests that they should be able to close the remaining gaps, and we’re going to do everything we …

Malaysia to assess response to unilateral sanctions amid concern over Iran oil shipments

Malaysia to assess response to unilateral sanctions amid concern over Iran oil shipments

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia said on Wednesday (May 8) it would need to assess its response to unilaterally applied sanctions, following concerns raised by the United States over the role of Malaysia-based service providers in shipments of sanctioned Iranian oil. A senior US treasury official said this week the United States saw Iran’s capacity to move its oil as being reliant on service providers based in Malaysia. The official also said the United States was trying to prevent Malaysia from becoming a jurisdiction where the Palestinian militant group Hamas could both fundraise and then move money. Malaysia government spokesperson Fahmi Fadzil said the country was prepared to engage with its US counterparts to better understand its concerns and stressed that it would comply with United Nations sanctions. “We want to assert that Malaysia, as a sovereign nation, we comply with UN sanctions,” he told reporters. “But when it comes to unilaterally applied sanctions, then I think we have to assess this situation.” Brian Nelson, the Under Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence and …

U.S. delays arms shipments to Israel amid Rafah tensions

The Biden administration is delaying the sale of at least two arms shipments to Israel amid mounting concern about the country’s plan to expand a military operation in southern Gaza that could dramatically increase the conflict’s death toll, said four people familiar with the matter. The White House and State Department declined to explain the decision, but it is the first known instance of a delay in U.S. arms transfers since the Oct. 7 Hamas-led attack into Israel that killed more than 1,200 people. Zelensky demands US speeds up weapon shipments to halt Russia

A German former soldier will go on trial today accused of spying for Russia, as Berlin faces a surge in Moscow-linked espionage cases amid the Ukraine war. The suspect, identified only as Thomas H, was arrested in August last year in the western city of Koblenz. He is accused of passing information to Russian intelligence services that he obtained while working in the procurement unit of the German military, or Bundeswehr. Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in early 2022, Germany – the second-largest supplier of military aid to Kyiv – has seen a jump in alleged spying cases linked to Moscow. Thomas H. had been a career soldier, working at the army’s Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support Department. In May 2023, the suspect “approached the Russian general consulate in Bonn and the Russian embassy in Berlin and offered his cooperation”, prosecutors said in a statement when he was arrested. “In the process, he passed on information he had obtained in the course of his professional activities for it to be passed on to a …

Apple Cuts Vision Pro Shipments as Demand Falls ‘Sharply Beyond Expectations’

Apple Cuts Vision Pro Shipments as Demand Falls ‘Sharply Beyond Expectations’

Apple has dropped the number of Vision Pro units that it plans to ship in 2024, going from an expected 700 to 800k units to just 400k to 450k units, according to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Orders have been scaled back before the Vision Pro has launched in markets outside of the United States, which Kuo says is a sign that demand in the U.S. has “fallen sharply beyond expectations.” As a result, Apple is expected to take a “conservative view” of headset demand when the Vision Pro launches in additional countries. Kuo previously said that Apple will introduce the Vision Pro in new markets before the June Worldwide Developers Conference, which suggests that we could see it available in additional areas in the next month or so. Apple is expecting Vision Pro shipments to decline year-over-year in 2025 compared to 2024, and the company is said to be “reviewing and adjusting” its headset product roadmap. Kuo does not believe there will be a new Vision Pro model in 2025, an adjustment to a prior …
