Labour selects 26-year-old Gogglebox star to take on Deputy PM Oliver Dowden | Politics | News

Labour has selected yet another celebrity candidate to take on the Tories at the General Election, turning to a familiar face from Channel 4’s hit show Gogglebox. Josh Tapper, who regularly appeared on the television reaction show from the age of 15, was last night selected to fight deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden in his Hertfordshire seat of Hertsmere. Reacting to his selection, Mr Tapper said he is “thrilled and honoured” to have won the selection and pledged to not let down local Labour members. He optimistically said: “The work to unseat the Deputy Prime Minister starts now!” Mr Downden has a huge 21,313 majority, winning 62.5% of the vote in 2019, so it is unlikely Mr Tapper will deliver on his goal of toppling the top Tory. However despite his television stardom, he is no political novice. After starring on Gogglebox for four years alongside his mother, father and sister, he left the show in 2017 to pursue a career in the civil service. Mr Tapper joined Downing Street, leaving in 2019. In 2022 …

Pilot WASH Project in Chimwenje, Malawi, Will Leverage Water Mission’s Safe Water Delivery Model CHARLESTON, S.C. —  Water Mission is partnering with Compassion International on a global safe water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) alliance through a pilot project initiating in Chimwenje, Malawi. The newly piloted program will reach Chimwenje’s more than 6,000 residents upon completion in 2024. The project will mainstream Water Mission’s well-established safe water processes and standards in Compassion’s program in Malawi and help to refine and align operational standards and processes for joint church and community engagement. “Water Mission’s technical excellence, church engagement strategies, and presence in vulnerable communities makes them a wonderful, strategically aligned partner for Compassion,” said Herb Ehresman, Director of Strategic Alliances at Compassion International. “We can reach exponentially more children and families through this partnership than we could on our own. We’re looking forward to working together to provide sustainable WASH programming to Compassion’s local church partners and participants in …

Techstars selects 12 companies for its fall space accelerator

Techstars has chosen twelve companies to join its aerospace accelerator, a thirteen-week program which runs in partnership with the U.S. Space Force and NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. The new cohort includes eleven American companies and one from Australia. Matt Kozlov, Techstars managing director, told TechCrunch that he has a particular feeling about this new cohort. He described it as, “Hell yes.” “I got this feeling when I was running my first space cohort, which was in 2019,” he said. “Seven out of the ten companies have [since] raised between $10-$80 million dollars.” (Companies in that inaugural cohort include Pixxel, Orbit Fab and Hydrosat.) “In the new cohort, I’m ‘hell yes’ on all twelve.” Kozlov, who has run twelve Techstar programs so far in his role as managing director, said that the application rate to the space accelerator is on the scale of Harvard’s – which admits just 3.4% of applicants. “The companies that applied to this year’s space program are exceptional, and I think that speaks to the track record of the companies that have …
