One America News Network retracts article about Michael Cohen

One America News Network retracted an article Monday that said former President Donald Trump’s onetime attorney Michael Cohen had an affair with adult film star Stormy Daniels. The March 27 article from the conservative news outlet quoted a post on X from a user who falsely claimed to have obtained information in 2018 from Daniels’ then-attorney, Michael Avenatti. Citing Avenatti, the post claimed that Cohen and Daniels had been having an affair since 2006 and that Cohen “cooked up” the hush money scheme to extort the Trump Organization ahead of the 2016 election. “To be clear, no evidence suggests that Mr. Cohen and Ms. Daniels were having an affair and no evidence suggests that Mr. Cohen ‘cooked up’ the scheme to extort the Trump Organization before the 2016 election,” OAN said in a statement Monday. The network said it was taking the story down “from all sites,” as well as “all social media.” “This retraction is part of a settlement reached with Michael Cohen. Mr. Avenatti has denied making the allegations,” the statement said. “OAN …

Travis Kelce’s brother retracts claim that Wales is ‘full of upper class, beautiful white people’

Louis Rees-Zammit’s switch to the NFL has shone a spotlight in the United States on not only rugby but also Wales itself, resulting – in the case of Jason Kelce – some rapid backtracking after he claimed Wales is “posh” and filled with “rich, upper class, just beautiful white people”. Discussing Rees-Zammit’s move with his famous brother on their podcast – Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, partner of a certain Taylor Swift – the duo noted Rees-Zammit’s polished appearance and spoke of his marketing potential, with Travis Kelce describing Rees-Zammit as “debonair” and “as suave as it gets”. Coming to his thoughts about the people of Wales, inspired by Rees-Zammit’s appearance, Jason Kelce said: “When I think of Welsh, I think British people call it ‘posh’. I think of these rich, upper class, just beautiful white people. He is the running stereotype of what I would think of with a Welsh person. I don’t know if that’s an accurate stereotype but that’s certainly what I think of and he’s helping continue that trend …

Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle retracts offer to SNP for emergency ceasefire debate | Politics News

Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle has rejected an application from the SNP for an emergency debate over a ceasefire in Gaza – despite proposing the debate himself. Last week saw the Commons descend into chaos when Sir Lindsay breached convention and allowed a Labour amendment to dominate an SNP opposition day, discussing the Israel-Hamas conflict. The Speaker apologised for the incident and said he would grant the SNP a so-called SO24 debate to give them a chance to highlight their position. But SNP leader Stephen Flynn revealed on Monday that their application had been thrown out, much to their anger. Politics live: Anderson releases first statement about Islamophobia Sir Lindsay said the government planned to “make a relevant statement” around the situation in Gaza on Tuesday, so there would be a “very relevant opportunity for this matter to come before the House”. But Mr Flynn accused Westminster of “failing the people of Gaza by blocking a vote on the urgent actions the UK government must take to help make an immediate ceasefire happen”. He added: “The …

Science journal retracts paper with ‘nonsensical’ AI images

An open access scientific journal, Frontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology, was openly criticized and mocked by researchers on social media this week after they observed the publication had recently put up an article including imagery with gibberish descriptions and diagrams of anatomically incorrect mammalian testicles and sperm cells, which bore signs of being created by an AI image generator. We thank the readers for their scrutiny of our articles: when we get it wrong, the crowdsourcing dynamic of open science means that community feedback helps us to quickly correct the record. — Frontiers (@FrontiersIn) February 15, 2024 The publication has since responded to one of its critics on the social network X, posting from its verified account: “We thank the readers for their scrutiny of our articles: when we get it wrong, the crowdsourcing dynamic of open science means that community feedback helps us to quickly correct the record.” It has also removed the article, entitled “Cellular functions of spermatogonial stem cells in relation to JAK/STAT signaling pathway” from its website and issued a …

Disney retracts ‘Steamboat Willie’ YouTube copyright claim now that it’s public domain

This feels significant: Disney has officially retracted a copyright claim on a third-party’s Steamboat Willie video on YouTube. On Thursday, Mashable reported that YouTuber and voice actor Brock Baker had uploaded a video to his channel with over 1 million subscribers which was almost immediately hit with a copyright claim from Disney. Credit: Brock Baker Baker’s video featured the entirety of the 1928 Disney animated short Steamboat Willie. He had remixed the film, which stars Mickey Mouse, with his own comedic audio track playing over the nearly 8-minute cartoon, and released it under the title “Steamboat Willie (Brock’s Dub).” After being hit with the claim, Baker’s upload became demonetized, meaning the YouTuber could not make any money off of it. The claim also blocked the ability to embed the video on third-party websites. In addition, the YouTube video was given limited visibility, including being blocked from view entirely in certain countries.  SEE ALSO: How people are using Mickey Mouse in …

US colonel retracts comments on simulated drone attack ‘thought experiment’ | US military

A US air force colonel “misspoke” when he said at a Royal Aeronautical Society conference last month that a drone killed its operator in a simulated test because the pilot was attempting to override its mission, according to the society. The confusion had started with the circulation of a blogpost from the society, in which it described a presentation by Col Tucker “Cinco” Hamilton, the chief of AI test and operations with the US air force and an experimental fighter test pilot, at the Future Combat Air and Space Capabilities Summit in London in May. According to the blogpost, Hamilton had told the crowd that in a simulation to test a drone powered by artificial intelligence and trained and incentivized to kill its targets, an operator instructed the drone in some cases not to kill its targets and the drone had responded by killing the operator. The comments sparked deep concern over the use of AI in weaponry and extensive conversations online. But the US air force on Thursday evening denied the test was conducted. …
