Destruction of Ai Weiwei artwork a ‘reckless and senseless’ act of vandalism, exhibition curator says | World News

The destruction of an artwork by Ai Weiwei has been condemned as a “reckless and senseless act” of vandalism by the exhibition’s curator. A 57-year-old Czech man was arrested after smashing to pieces a large blue and white Porcelain Cube at Bologna’s Palazzo Fava museum on Friday, local reports said. The exhibition’s curator Arturo Galansino called it an act of “vandalism” made worse because some of the works on display “explore the theme of destruction itself”. Rishi Sunak Accused Of Reckless Assault On Disabled

Rishi Sunak Accused Of Reckless Assault On Disabled

Rishi Sunak has been accused of launching a “reckless assault” on disabled people as he plans a crackdown on benefit payments. A major overhaul of the welfare system could see people with depression and anxiety stripped of their benefits. Work and pensions secretary Mel Stride said a “surge” in claims for mental health conditions needed to be tackled. But critics said the move was about “cutting the benefits bill” regardless of the impact on those receiving the payments. “Where you have mild depression or anxiety, the best thing to do is not so much a cash transfer, but actually some kind of meaningful support that helps get that person into a position where they’re having a much better life, where work is at the centre of their life,” Stride told The Times. According to The Daily Telegraph disabled people could see their monthly Personal Independence Payments (PIP) replaced with a voucher system. PIP replaced the Disability Living Allowance system in 2013 and helps around 3.3 million people with extra costs caused by long-term disability or …

Morgan Wallen Addresses Nashville Arrest for Reckless Endangerment

Morgan Wallen Addresses Nashville Arrest for Reckless Endangerment

Morgan Wallen addressed his arrest earlier this month for reckless endangerment in Nashville after he allegedly threw a chair off of the roof of Chief’s, a six-story bar owned by fellow country artist Eric Church. The musician took to X (formerly Twitter) on Friday night to make his first public statement after being taken into custody on April 7. “I didn’t feel right publicly checking in until I made amends with some folks,” he wrote. “I’ve touched base with Nashville law enforcement, my family, and the good people at Chief’s. I’m not proud of my behavior, and I accept responsibility.” He continued, “I have the utmost respect for the officers working every day to keep us all safe. Regarding my tour, there will be no change.” According to Nashville news station WSMV-TV, Wallen’s arrest affidavit noted that around 10:45 p.m. local time, witnesses watched the artist pick up a chair, throw it over the roof and laugh about it. The chair landed three feet away from two Metro Nashville Police Department officers. “At 10:53 p.m. …

Taylor Swift’s new album is about a reckless kind of freedom. If only it sounded as uninhibited | Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift’s new album is about a reckless kind of freedom. If only it sounded as uninhibited | Taylor Swift

As The Tortured Poets Department (TTPD) finally sees its official release, the intention behind the title remains as enigmatic as it was when Taylor Swift announced it two months ago. The title track seems to mock one such tortured poet who carts a typewriter around and likens the budding couple to Patti Smith and Dylan Thomas. “We’re modern idiots,” Swift laughs. The album’s aesthetic wallows in anguish and Swift’s liner notes and social media captions are littered with self-consciously poetic proclamations. And the erratic period captured in the lyrics couldn’t be further from a life of cloistered studiousness. TTPD depicts a manic phase in Swift’s life last year, the reality behind the perfect stagecraft of the Eras tour. Wild-eyed from what sounds like the slow dissolution of a six-year relationship, she lunged at a once-forbidden paramour with a taste for dissolution, a foul mouth and a well-founded bad reputation. The latter, she makes clear as she sings repeatedly about flouting paternalistic and public censure, was a central part of the attraction: “He was chaos, he …

Georgia running back Trevor Etienne arrested on DUI and reckless driving charges

Georgia running back Trevor Etienne arrested on DUI and reckless driving charges

ATLANTA — Georgia running back Trevor Etienne was arrested early Sunday on drunken driving, reckless driving and other charges, jail records show. Etienne, the Bulldogs’ projected starting running back, was booked into the Athens-Clark County Jail at 4:35 a.m. and released less than an hour later on bonds totalling about $1,800. The other charges include failure to maintain a lane or improper driving as well as affixing materials that reduce visibility through the windows or windshield, according to the records. It was not immediately clear if Etienne had obtained a lawyer. The university said in a statement it was aware of the arrest but would not have further comment. Etienne, 19, is a midyear transfer from Florida, where he led the Gators with nine touchdowns last year and emerged as one of the team’s most dynamic playmakers. The younger brother of former Clemson star and Jacksonville Jaguars running back Travis Etienne, he has two years of eligibility remaining. Coach Kirby Smart acknowledged last year that he had been struggling to find ways to get his …

Here’s What’s In Biden’s ‘Reckless’ .3 Trillion Budget, And Here’s How He’ll ‘Pay’ For It

Here’s What’s In Biden’s ‘Reckless’ $7.3 Trillion Budget, And Here’s How He’ll ‘Pay’ For It

The Biden administration has released a proposed budget that would boost federal spending to $7.3 trillion next fiscal year. To pay for it, they plan to raise taxes on the wealthy and large corporations. And while there’s virtually no chance of it passing given the current makeup of Congress (WSJ calls it ‘largely symbolic’), it will give Biden a steady supply of talking points to read off teleprompters across the land during his re-election campaign. According to the White House, the 2025 budget would cut the deficit by $3 trillion over the next decade, and raise taxes by a net of $4.9 trillion – a boost of roughly 7% in collections without any policy changes, the Wall Street Journal reports. Other features of the proposed budget include: A boost in defense spending to $895 billion, up from $886 billion. Congressional approval for roughly $1.6 trillion in discretionary spending – slightly lower than the current year’s budget. This will be offset by $1.6 trillion in spending caps which were agreed to last year by House Republicans …

Sweden’s veteran peace movement stung by ‘reckless’ entry to Nato | Sweden

Sweden’s veteran peace movement stung by ‘reckless’ entry to Nato | Sweden

Under the driving rain of a Brussels springtime, the Swedish flag was raised on Monday outside Nato’s headquarters. The organisation’s secretary general, Jens Stoltenberg, welcomed the alliance’s newest member in its native language: “To all Swedes, I say: ‘Välkommen till Nato’.” The Swedish prime minister, Ulf Kristersson , vowed that his country would be a “proud member” driven by “unity and solidarity”. But, while he basks in the glow of his country finally joining Nato after months of delays, Sweden’s once thriving peace movement is smarting. Once widely visible in debates and on the streets – particularly over nuclear weapons, disarmament and the Vietnam war – the movement had already been on the wane since the end of the cold war. But at the Olof Palme International Centre in Stockholm, a short walk from where the peace campaigner and former Swedish prime minister was assassinated, there is a feeling that ever since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the subject of peace has disappeared from public debate. Anna Sundström, the secretary general of the centre, a …

GTA6 fury: Union says “Workers are done with letting executives make reckless and harmful decisions”

Yesterday we reported that the head honchos at Rockstar Games had made a decision to order all staff back to office working conditions five days a week. The premise for the move is that as GTA6 gets closer to launch it would allow security to be ramped up and minimize leaks, as well as increase productivity. The games industry has been making objectionable decisions for well over 12 months as far as its workers are concerned, and with every new straw added to the camel’s back, it feels as though something major will happen soon. Eurogamer is reporting that the Independent Workers’ Union of Great Britain has “blasted” Rockstar for its return to office order with seemingly very little intention of allowing exceptions. Quoting a petition signed by Rockstar employees in 2022, the new edict marks “a U-turn from previous statements in which the company insisted flexible work options would remain available “Employees have been quick to voice their dismay to the Union with one saying, “After so many broken promises we now fear management …
