The BBC series returned for its 13th run in February with a 100th-episode special that featured the surprise return of an original character, more than 10 years after they made their debut, but also had one key absence that disappointed long-time fans. In the latest episode, main character DI Neville Parker, played by Ralf Little, revealed he was leaving the island of Saint Marie, where the series is set, prompting concern Little’s time on the series was coming to an end. The penultimate episode of the 14th series did not do anything to assuage those concerns, with the episode nostalgically re-teaming Neville with returning fan favourite DS Florence Cassell (Joséphine Jobert) and also showing Neville confirm his plans to leave. At one stage in …

Why we think Florence is returning to Death in Paradise – and will lead to Ralf Little’s exit

Death in Paradise season 13 episode two delved into a very unusual murder involving knitting needles and some seriously competitive bingo, but here at Under the Palms, we were much more intrigued by the hints of interpersonal relationships at play – particularly concerning DI Neville Parker. Here’s why we think it might…  During our latest Under the Palms chat, we also discussed when and why Ralf could choose to leave the show – and whether he even needs to leave to all thanks to his character’s immense popularity – as well as whether Marlon and Naomi will ever get together, and if love is in the air for Commissioner …

He explained: “Ralf Little… is just such a top guy and a great leader on set, a great number one on the call sheet. I don’t know if everybody knows, but when you’re number one on the call sheet, it’s a bit like being the team captain, and he was a good leader, a thoroughly nice guy, and we had a blast.”  He continued: “Some actors can be great actors, but then they’re like, ‘Well I’m not in charge of anything.’ But just taking that responsibility… when we were filming …
