Elon Musk’s pro-Trump critics claim they’re being censored on X

Conservatives critical of Elon Musk are accusing the platform he owns of censoring them, CNN reports. Political activist Laura Loomer sparked an online debate within the Right about work visas known as H-1Bs, which Musk supports. Loomer now claims her account has been unverified and demonetized, accusing Musk of being a “free speech fraud.” Meanwhile, another conservative activist, Charles C. Johnson, claims X banned his account because he “embarrassed” Musk by writing about his father’s alleged involvement with an emerald mine, something Musk has long denied. (Neither this nor Loomer’s accusations have been substantiated.) Elon has long publicly supported free speech, posting that it’s “the bedrock of democracy.” But Musk has also been accused of silencing people on the platform, notably in 2022 when X temporarily suspended journalists covering the suspension of an account tracking his jet. X didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment. Source link

Liz Truss Fumes As Lettuce Stunt Crashes Her ‘Pro-Trump’ Event

Liz Truss Fumes As Lettuce Stunt Crashes Her ‘Pro-Trump’ Event

Liz Truss fell victim to yet another lettuce-related stunt on Tuesday night while hosting a pro-Donald Trump speaking event in Suffolk. The ex-prime minister was explaining to the crowd why she backed the former US president and Republican candidate for re-election – and why Americans were struggling with the economy – when she was rudely interrupted. But Truss seemed completely oblivious as a banner depicting a lettuce (with goggly eyes) slowly unfurled from the ceiling behind her. To make matters worse, it had the words, “I crashed the economy” written on there, too. And, presumably by pure luck, she happened to be wearing a green, leaf-y coloured dress. Truss did not realise she had been upstaged by the remote-controlled banner until someone else came on stage and pointed it out to her. The person she was speaking to on stage said he had “no idea where that came from” – at which point, hesitant giggles started to break out in the audience. But Truss looked up at it, and said: “That’s not funny.” She stormed …

5 years after Mueller report into pro-Trump Russian meddling, legal scholars still have questions

5 years after Mueller report into pro-Trump Russian meddling, legal scholars still have questions

In the long list of Donald Trump’s legal woes, the Mueller report – which was released in redacted form on April 18, 2019 – appears all but forgotten. But the nearly two-year investigation into alleged Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential election dominated headlines – and revealed what has become Trump’s trademark denial of any wrongdoing. For Trump, the Russia investigation was the first “ridiculous hoax” and “witch hunt.” Mueller didn’t help matters. “While this report does not conclude that the president committed a crime, it also does not exonerate him,” the special counsel stated. With such equivocal language, it’s easy to see how Democrats and Republicans – and the American public – responded to the report in completely different ways. While progressive Democrats wanted Trump to be impeached, some GOP leaders called for an investigation into the origins of the investigation itself. Over the past five years, the Conversation U.S. has published the work of several scholars who followed the Mueller investigation and what it revealed about Trump. Here, we spotlight four examples …

Fallon | Afp | Getty Images Right-wing news outlet Newsmax received an investment of roughly $50 million from a Qatari royal between 2019 and 2020, The Washington Post reported, citing documents seen by the paper and confirmations from representatives of both Newsmax and the royal investment firm. Former Qatari government official Sheikh Sultan bin Jassim Al Thani invested in Newsmax through Heritage Advisors, a London-based investment fund that he owned, according to the report. At the time, Qatar was under an economic and diplomatic blockade by a coalition of neighboring Arab states, led by the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. These nations accused Qatar of supporting terrorism, which Doha stringently denied. According to the Post’s reporting on Tuesday, Newsmax was looking for investors to compete with the likes of Fox News. The paper cited sources …
