Priscilla Presley is mired in a legal battle with a company that claims it has the exclusive right to exploit her name, image and likeness. Priscilla Presley Partners (PPP), a firm started by Brigitte Kruse and Kevin Fialko, claimed that it helped broker a deal for the A24 movie adaptation of Presley’s memoir — as well as a settlement of an estate dispute challenging the will of her late daughter, Lisa Marie — and has sued to enforce its rights. The company alleges breach of contract against Presley, who was allegedly months away from bankruptcy before it started managing her business affairs, for reneging on their agreement to partner with Keya Morgan, Stan Lee’s former business manager charged with multiple counts related to elder abuse against the comic book legend. A judge on Monday scheduled an evidentiary hearing to assess whether Presley can be sued in Florida state court. In a statement, Marty Singer, a lawyer representing Presley, denied the allegations in the suit. He added, “My client made significant claims against PPP and its …

A year after the release of Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis, Sofia Coppola is telling Presley’s side of her story with the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll. A 14-year-old Priscilla Beaulieu first met 24-year-old Elvis at a party in West Germany in 1959. She was in school but Elvis had already become a superstar and was stationed in Germany for his military service. Adapted from Priscilla’s 1985 memoir, Elvis and Me: The True Story of the Love Between Priscilla Presley and the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll, the film showcases the unseen story of their relationship. Sofia Coppola met with Priscilla – who is credited as an executive producer for the film – at her home to speak about her life with her ex-husband. “All the details really kind of suck you in,” Coppola said but added that bringing a film based on real events to the screen has certain challenges. “Because the story is so personal, I don’t want to pry too much, but I have to ask personal questions. It’s hard to imagine two films more different than Elvis and Priscilla. The former, directed by Baz Luhrmann and released in 2022, charts the rise and fall of Elvis Presley on an operatic scale, zeroing in on his complex relationship with his manager, Colonel Tom Parker, and presenting him as little less than pop’s greatest martyr. The latter, written and directed by Sofia Coppola, based on Priscilla Presley’s memoir and released in the UK this week, is dreamy and intimate, focusing on the life of Priscilla as it related to Elvis, her partner of 14 years during the peak of his career. But which hewed closer to the facts? In Priscilla, Sofia Coppola’s sensitive, minor-key portrait of Elvis Presley’s ex-wife Priscilla Presley, there’s a fleeting shot of the King (played by Euphoria’s Jacob Elordi) performing onstage. His back is turned to the camera; as he opens his arms to the crowd before him, he lifts his signature cape and his body blocks out the lights. It’s an unusual perspective. In the many depictions of the icon, Elvis tends to be seen the way his fans saw him: in the spotlight, with his artistry on full display. But Priscilla—as rendered by Coppola and embodied by Cailee Spaeny—had a different point of view. He was a silhouette, a shadow, a man she could not see clearly.
