Mothers who wrote books for their children: Sun Xueling, Priscilla Tan, Sophia Huang, Stojana Popovska

She was an accountant who, in 2019, had just left her career to care for her then two-year-old. As a stay-at-home-mother, Priscilla Tan wanted to read inspiring books about female role models to her daughter. Frustrated that she could not find many such books that were age-appropriate for her toddler, she decided to write her own. Together with her husband Shawn, she ran a Kickstarter campaign in early 2020 to fund it, raising more than S$60,000. This caught the attention of book publisher Marshall Cavendish, which offered the Tans a publishing contract. In 2020, they launched six board books under their Leaders series, featuring among them, Singapore’s first female president Halimah Yacob, former American Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and former New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern. In 2022, the couple launched their Activists series, also six books. It featured women such as Academy Award-winning actress Michelle Yeoh, Pakistani women’s rights activist Malala Yousafzai, and the former First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama. Source link

Meta founder and chief executive Mark Zuckerberg has revealed a giant, teal statue of his wife. Posting a picture of the commissioned artwork on Instagram, the tech mogul said: “Bringing back the Roman tradition of making sculptures of your wife.” The statue shows a sculpted silver piece of material flowing behind the rendering of Ms Chan and appears to be in a garden. His wife, philanthropist Priscilla Chan, is seen in the photo sipping out of a mug. She commented on her husband’s Instagram post, saying, “The more of me the better?” with a heart emoji. Navarone Garcia is opening up about his struggles with drug addiction and how he’s sharing his story to help the younger generation with the aid of Michael DeLeon, founder of Steered Straight Inc. Navarone is the only son of Priscilla Presley, who welcomed the 37-year-old musician with her ex, producer Marco Garibaldi, a decade after her 1973 divorce from Elvis Presley. Navarone’s older half-sister and Priscilla’s first child, her daughter Lisa Marie Presley with Elvis, died last January at age 54. As he grew up, Navarone tried his best to stay out of the spotlight. Though it launched to warm reviews in March, Priscilla The Party! will play its final show on 26 May.
