Mom-To-Be Unboxes The Baby Gift She Received From The Scottish Government

Mom-To-Be Unboxes The Baby Gift She Received From The Scottish Government

Some countries are far better than others when it comes to supporting their citizens, particularly parents. Scotland, for example, offers employees up to 52 weeks of maternity leave, compared to America’s paltry 12.  Another way the country helps their expectant parents is through its “Baby Box initiative,” which according to Scotland’s government website, was started in 2017 to “give every baby in Scotland an equal start in life.” One mom-to-be on TikTok unboxed the baby box she received from the Scottish government. Content creator and pregnant woman Maisie Elliott opened her baby box in a video, showing viewers just how well the Scottish government prepares moms-to-be. “I am 35 and a half weeks pregnant, and I’m gonna show you everything that I have got in my Scottish baby box,” she began. “Everyone who lives in Scotland is entitled to this free box,” Elliott explained. “It’s funded through the government, and you get it delivered … towards the end of your pregnancy.” “We’re gonna go through everything that is included in here,” she continued. “I think …

4 Simple, Effective Ways To Cope In Hot Weather During Pregnancy

4 Simple, Effective Ways To Cope In Hot Weather During Pregnancy

Pregnancy can come with a myriad of symptoms, including nausea and back pain. However, one that’s especially difficult during the summer is feeling that your body is warmer than usual. According to the NHS, this is due to hormonal changes and an increase in blood supply to the skin. It can also cause you to sweat more. This is already difficult enough, but during a heatwave, like the one that’s set to hit the UK later this month, staying cool can seem outright unmanageable. How to cope with hot weather and heatwaves during pregnancy Stay hydrated, especially if you’re prone to sweating According to the National Institute of Health, the current recommendation for water intake is drinking 8–10 glasses of water each day. Perhaps up it a little more if you need to or are prone to sweating. Your pee should be a pale yellow in shade, if it’s darker, you need to drink more water. Adjust your approach to exercise The National Childbirth Trust warned: “You might need to adjust your exercise plan while …

This Is The Reality Of Trying To Get Pregnant In Your 30s and 40s

This Is The Reality Of Trying To Get Pregnant In Your 30s and 40s

When it comes to the right age for getting pregnant, there seem to be a lot of myths surrounding older pregnancies. Although in the last few years it has been normalised to have a child at a relatively older age (according to society), there is still a lot of misinformation circulating around these pregnancies. Getting pregnant in your late 30s and early-to-mid 40s is becoming more and more common, as high profile women like Meghan Markle, Ashley Olsen and Mindy Kaling have also shown. In fact, according to the Office of National Statistics most recent data from 2020, the average age of a first time mother is 29 and the average age of a mother (not just first time mother) was 31 in 2021. This is in contrast to 1970 when the average age to become a first time mother in England and Wales was 23. But what are the realities behind some of the myths associated with being a relatively older pregnant person? Dr. Amit Shah, leading gynaecologist and co-founder of Fertility Plus spoke …

Share your experience of private antenatal classes in the UK | Pregnancy

We’re keen to hear from people who’ve participated in private antenatal classes across the UK in order to prepare themselves for pregnancy and parenthood. What sort of information were you taught by your course leaders about pregnancy, childbirth, and caring for a baby? Did you find the information to be useful and evidence-based? Or were there statements or comments that gave you pause for thought? Was one mode of birth, whether Caesarean or vaginal, favoured over another, and, if so, how was that preference communicated? Do you feel that the antenatal course adequately prepared you for the realities of childbirth, or did it set you up with unrealistic expectations? Share your experience We would like to hear from people who have taken private antenatal classes in the UK. Your responses, which can be anonymous, are secure as the form is encrypted and only the Guardian has access to your contributions. We Finally Know What Causes Morning Sickness – And That’s One Step Closer To A Cure

We Finally Know What Causes Morning Sickness – And That’s One Step Closer To A Cure

Have you ever wondered why you suffered from morning sickness, yet your friend didn’t? For example, I was one of the lucky ones who didn’t suffer from nausea and vomiting during my pregnancy, yet most of my friends did. Now, thanks to new research, scientists have found what actually causes some people to suffer from nausea and vomiting during their pregnancy. Until recently the cause was unknown, but a Cambridge-led study has discovered it’s due to a hormone produced by the foetus — a protein known as GDF15. In fact, depending on how much exposure to the hormone the parent had before getting pregnant determines how sick the mother feels. Professor Sir Stephen O’Rahilly, Co-Director of the Institute of Metabolic Science and Director of the Medical Research Council Metabolic Diseases Unit at the University of Cambridge, who led the collaboration, said: “Most women who become pregnant will experience nausea and sickness at some point, and while this is not pleasant, for some women it can be much worse — they’ll become so sick they require …
