NASA has again postponed the return to Earth of Barry Wilmore and Sunita Williams, the astronauts stranded on the International Space Station after Boeing’s Starliner capsule malfunctioned in the middle of this year. The crew of the spacecraft arrived at the ISS in June. The objective was to test the Starliner’s comprehensive capabilities, including launch, docking, and return systems. The mission was scheduled to last one week. Five of the capsule’s 28 thrusters failed to function before docking with the ISS. Boeing claimed that its technology could guarantee the safe return of the astronauts. However, NASA expressed doubts and concluded that the risk was too high. The agency entrusted the task to SpaceX. Elon Musk’s company launched the Crew-9 mission in September to, among other things, return Williams and Wilmore. Until now, the stalled astronauts were scheduled to return in February aboard the Crew Dragon rocket. Donald Trump’s trial in Florida on charges of illegally keeping classified documents after leaving office has been indefinitely postponed, a judge decided on Tuesday, greatly reducing the odds he will face a jury in either of the two federal criminal cases against him before the November 5 US election. Trump, seeking to regain the presidency, previously had been scheduled to go to trial on May 20 in the documents case brought by Special Counsel Jack Smith, but the prosecution and defence had both acknowledged that date would need to be delayed. US District Judge Aileen Cannon, who was appointed to the bench by Trump in 2020, said on Tuesday the trial would no longer begin May 20 but did not set a new date. The 15th edition of the Dakar Biennale, in Dakar, Senegal, will not open on May 16 as originally scheduled: it has been postponed to November, the country’s ministry of culture has announced, citing “the national and international context, and the desire for new authorities in the sector to organize the Biennale under optimal conditions” that match its standards.  The exhibition will now run November 7 through December 7. The late-stage announcement confirms recent rumors that progress on the exhibition, the flagship artistic event in Senegal, had stalled amid the tense political climate, and would not proceed as scheduled. Rock band The Alarm has postponed its upcoming US tour after its frontman’s latest cancer diagnosis. In a statement on the band’s website, Mike Peters said the news had come as a “bolt out of the blue” to him and his family. The band were due to commence their US tour on Thursday but the 65-year-old from Prestatyn, Denbighshire, has announced that he will no longer be able to travel stateside. Mr Peters said he woke with a large swollen gland on the left side of his neck on 21 April. Scan results showed his chronic lymphocytic leukaemia had transformed into a high grade lymphoma. According to the NHS website, high grade lymphomas need to be treated straight away but tend to respond better to treatment. Mr Peters said he is awaiting further results before his new treatment regime is confirmed. DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — NASCAR has postponed the season-opening Daytona 500 until Monday because of two days of rain at Daytona International Speedway. The race had been scheduled for Sunday afternoon, although the weather forecast put that in doubt all week. The final practice for drivers was canceled Saturday, as was the Xfinity Series race. The Xfinity Series race is now scheduled to be held Monday morning, hours ahead of the 4 p.m. start for the Daytona 500. Joey Logano is set to start from the pole for Team Penske. The last time the Daytona 500 was postponed a full day was in 2012. NASCAR completed 20 laps in 2020 before rain halted activity, and the race resumed the next day.
