BYD’s home city in China now has more supercharging plugs than gas pumps

BYD’s home city in China now has more supercharging plugs than gas pumps

Photo: Shenzhen Government Online Shenzhen, the home of Chinese EV giant BYD, says it’s become the first in China to have more supercharging plugs than gas pumps. As Electrek reported in April, BYD received direct government subsidies of “at least” $3.7 billion to grow its EV business and undercut the competition with aggressively low pricing. So all those cheap EVs need to be fast-charged, and what better place to expand than BYD’s home city? In June 2023, Shenzhen unveiled its first fully liquid-cooled supercharging prototype station as part of its “City of Supercharging” plan, in which it set a goal to build as many supercharging stations as gas stations by 2025. And these “superchargers” aren’t just DC fast chargers – they can charge EVs to 80% in just 10 minutes. Shenzhen had 362 supercharging stations as of April 30, according to the latest data released by the city, but it didn’t say how many gas pumps there are. They’ve been conveniently sited in commercial complexes, bus stops, and industrial parks. According to data from the …

7 Best Smart Plugs (2024): Indoor Plugs, Outdoor Plugs, and Advice

They help you automate your home and make certain tasks like turning off the lights a little easier. (We like smart bulbs for this reason too.) Be sure to check out our other smart-home buying guides, including Best Smart Bulbs, Best Security Cameras, Best Smart Speakers, and Best Smart Displays. Boeing 737-900ER door plugs need checking, FAA says

Mario Tama/Getty Images hide caption toggle caption Mario Tama/Getty Images A United Airlines Boeing 737-900ER arrives at Los Angeles International Airport in 2019. Mario Tama/Getty Images The Federal Aviation Administration is recommending that airlines visually inspect the door plugs of more Boeing planes after a similar panel blew off a jet in midair earlier this month. The safety alert issued late Sunday recommends that airlines operating Boeing’s 737-900ER jets inspect the door plugs “as soon as possible” to make sure they’re properly secured after some airlines reported unspecified issues with the bolts. The 737-900ER is not part of Boeing’s newer Max series, but it has the same optional door plug design as the Boeing 737 Max 9, according to the FAA. More than 170 of the newer jets have been grounded since Jan. 5, when a door plug blew off a 737 Max 9 plane operated by Alaska Airlines. That plane had only been flying for a few months, according to investigators …

Federal officials recommend that airlines inspect door plugs on some older Boeing jets as well

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Federal Aviation Administration recommends that airlines inspect the door plugs on certain Boeing 737s that are older than the Max 9 jetliner that suffered a blowout of a similar panel during a flight this month. The FAA said door plugs on one older version of the 737, called the 737-900ER, are identical in design to those on the Max 9, and some airlines “have noted findings with bolts during the maintenance inspections.” The FAA issued a safety alert late Sunday. As soon as possible, airlines should visually inspect four places where a bolt, nut and pin secure the door plug to the plane, the agency said. The door plugs are panels that seal holes left for extra doors when the number of seats is not enough to trigger a requirement for more emergency-evacuation exits. From inside the plane, they look like a regular window. The FAA said that 737-900ERs have logged 3.9 million flights without any known issues involving the door plugs. By contrast, the Max 9 that suffered the blowout …

Haley plugs DeSantis ‘lies’ website 16 times during debate

Haley plugs DeSantis ‘lies’ website 16 times during debate

Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley plugged her website on rival Ron DeSantis’s “lies” 16 times during CNN’s GOP presidential debate on Wednesday.   The effort by Haley was intended to call attention to mistruths by the Florida governor, but it was a tactic that also garnered criticism from pundits and online as the mentions of DeSantisLies.com were repeated and repeated. “What we’re going to do is rather than have him go and tell you all these lies, you can go to DeSantislies.com and look at all of those,” Haley said early on in the two candidates’ head-to-head showdown. “There is at least two dozen lies that he has told about me, and you can see where a fact checker says exactly what’s going to happen and exactly why it’s wrong.”  At 15 other points in the two-hour program, Haley name-dropped “DeSantisLies.com,” according to rush transcripts provided by the network.  She interjected DeSantis’s answer to one immigration-related question by quipping, “That is not true. DeSantislies.com.”  “It’s a shame that we had to put up Desantislies.com. Honestly, if he would spend as …

Texas says state-funded EV chargers must include Tesla plugs

Texas says state-funded EV chargers must include Tesla plugs

Texas will require electric vehicle charging companies to include Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS) and the Combined Charging System (CCS) standard in order to qualify for a state program to electrify highways through federal funds, Reuters reports. “The decision by Ford, GM, and now Rivian to adopt NACS changed requirements for Phase 1. Each Direct Current Fast Charge port will be required to have 1 CCS connector and 1 NACS connector,” the Texas Department of Transportation said in an email to Reuters on Tuesday. Late last month, Ford sparked an EV charging standards war by choosing to build future EVs with Tesla’s NACS technology and charge ports. General Motors promptly announced its own adoption of Tesla’s charging standard, causing a domino effect, with Rivian following Tuesday and talks of Hyundai soon to come. A range of charging companies like FreeWire Technologies, Flo and EVgo, have also promised to include NACS connectors to their public charging stations. Tesla’s charging standard is considered to be a better user experience. The cables are smaller, lighter and easier …

Klarna plugs ChatGPT into its platform for faster product recommendations

Payments and shopping service Klarna is the latest company to announce its integration with ChatGPT. The company said it is “one of the first brands to work with OpenAI to use its protocol to build an integrated Plugin for ChatGPT,” and is rolling out a personalized shopping experience that provides product recommendations when Klarna users ask for shopping advice, inspiration and product links via Klarna’s search and compare tool. Here’s how it works: Users install the Klarna plugin from the ChatGPT plugin store and then can ask ChatGPT questions. For example, “I have $150, which headphones can I afford?” and receive a selection of items relevant to that request. Users can also ask other questions or for more product recommendations. If users tap on the product link, they can also navigate to the product page on Klarna’s search and compare tool to compare prices across its 500,000 retail partners, the company said. “I’m super excited about our plugin with ChatGPT because it passes my ‘north star’ criteria that I call my ‘mom test,’ i.e. would …
